Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I would love to see the difficulty go back to end of May 2011 levels (567269). At least then I wouldn't be forced into a pool. At that difficulty, I was finding one block per week.

Greeting all, I'm Chris, got interested in bitcoin back in the 30$ haydays. Started hashing with a 4870, now upgraded to ~1.2 ghash total. Currently working on a modular spartan-6 design (pcb and fpga design in the past) with pluggable cards. Hoping to have a standalone solution that will fit in a mini-itx form factors. Looking forward to chatting and developing more! Chris

Hello I found out about bitcoin thanks to all the silkroad media attention but the concept really struck a cord wth me as I am a huge fan of Neal Stephensons books particularly cryptonomicon and some libertarian ideas. Not a real libertarian though. I consider myself a socialist libertarian as their are some things like energy that are to important and need long term planning so need more controls than a for profit company.

Hi, I'm Dr. Fuzzy. Former faculty at Carnegie Mellon, and combat robot builder (Robogames, BattleBots). I've been mining about a week, running an ATI 5870 on a MacPro; currently mining at nofeemining.com (a new but very friendly pool). --Fuzzy

Quote from: justinm001 on April 08, 2012, 06:26:24 AM hey All I am Justin from Australia (seems to be a few Aus folk here). Just became somewhat familiar with Bitcoins and loving the concept. I just wish I had the equipment to do some mining. I've got the equipment (a bunch of gaming machines each with one or two high-end RadeonHD cards), I just wish we had cheap enough electricity to make mining even close to profitable. With electricity prices being what they are, the very idea of running all these machines 24/7 at 100% load makes me cringe. A more specialised setup (eg FPGA) would be cheaper, but still nowhere near cheap enough.

Hi, I'm the BossChair. I named myself after the one slightly fancier chair on the BitCoin show, because that's the chair the host gets to sit in. I'm new to bitcoins and haven't really jumped in with both feet yet, but am interested in taking part in the discussion. Welcome, xxxcoin! I guess we joined at the same time. Your coins sound dirty.
