There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Hi, I'm new and would like to start posting elsewhere in the forum. I've been perusing the speculation forum mostly (a little too much, I think), and after reading all that hype (mostly despair now), I've decided to join the conversation. And I've even bought a few coins.

Thanks for reading!

Hello. I've been involved with Bitcoin since last summer and lurking these forums since then. I was drawn to Bitcoin because I have an interest in FPGAs and I wanted to make my own FPGA miner. I started designing my own PCB, but when I discovered ASICs, I abandoned work on the FPGA board. If I would have known that ASICs would have taken so long to come out (BFL anyone?) and the price of Bitcoins skyrocketing, I would have made the FPGA board. Now, Avalon ASIC chip group buys are going on, and I finally created this account so I can get in on this hopefully. I have the skills to design a PCB for these chips and get them hashing.
