I know that dash has masternodes. Maybe a bout 3000 active ones?

I recently found Transfercoin which looks interesting. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1203975.0

I think XC did.

what are the others?

Wow that is 4 million coins that can't be sold. There is only 6.6M dash in existence, so most of them can't be sold.
It's not surprising the price is strong

If a master Node can be undone, this is an excellent strategy to maintain a high value for your coin over time. Just to be clear what you are saying is that the majority of these coins cannot be mined and sold?

Masternodes are nothing more then servers that are running a Dash client 24 hrs a day and who can prove to the Dash network that they own 1000 Dash on a certain wallet address (MN public address)
As long as the masternodes can proof that and are constantly online, they are  considered a masternode to the network. The masternodes can be hosted through VPS providers or through owned Raspberry Pi's.
The 1000 Dash is considered collateral, is under people's own control and stored on a cold wallet (the hot wallet doesnt contain any coins, it just provides a link to the Masternode).

The owner is free to move his collateral of 1000 Dash at any time to sell it on exchanges or to move it to other addresses, but then the Dash network will consider that masternode as no longer active and will
not provide any more MN payments, it will eventually drop off the masternode list.

Masternodes = Cryptocurrency Socialism

All nodes are equal.
But some nodes are more equal than others.

HLM will have a masternode it's based on dash but it is a swap coin for spreadcoin, with some nice features in their added protocol, check here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1809278.0

Not sure how good an idea masternodes are. If a few people own many of these, or even worse the government does, not exactly an advertisement  for anonymity, especially for soemthing like Dash.

The TAO Network is built on a solid foundation with a variety of enhancements to make your blockchain more versatile and robust. Through the use of IntelliTx technology, TAO Network provides a way to create platform-wide smart contracts independently for content and protocol. The platform is easy to use, privacy-oriented and already has one of its several use cases materialized in the form of "The TAO of Music".
The TAO of Music is a public book that offers unique legal access to artist catalogs, regardless of the publisher who owns the rights. To help with integration and development, TAO Network enlisted the help of Dale Everingham, a respected audio engineer with more than 25 gold and platinum albums from some of the biggest names in hip hop and R & B.

Masternodes = Centralization!

not if the coin limit is not that high, you have to make some sort of reward system for people who invest alot of time and money into your curency, of course there also must be a way to stop the sharks from overtaking.

Bitsend (BSD) also has Masternodes. Requires 25k BSD (~3BTC) and will provide 80% of coins per block to the masternode owner. Coin looks promising!
