Seems like moderators here taken some of those stolen funds and deny it because it came from another source during a giveaway via IRC at the same time that they were hacked.
They just don't know that they were the stolen funds. So they claim ignorance to get away with it. Roll Eyes

name those moderators. the people should know who are they(the gang) Smiley

it would be good a "source"(link) if possible.
The accusations are flying here if you have not checked that interesting thread yet. It started around here with any concernable member asking where those given funds were from :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1574270.msg15824393#msg15824393

All started when the Bitfinex giveaway started and it was revealed that some mods here took funds that were questionable from Team fortress (who is being doxxed by the way in the scam accusations section) at around the same time that the bitfinex hack was done.
Very interesting and intriguing for those that can connect the dots. Wink

where are the updates from BitScam now?

The news are : Bitfinex says it may spread losses among users Smiley

“We are leaning towards a socialized loss scenario among bitcoin balances and active loans to BTCUSD positions"

To Bitfinex clients : go and make complaints. Bitfinex will not give you the money back and they are buying valuable time now.

everyone should now have to stay away from bitfinex, bitfinex has nothing for us but only a lose for us, there are a lot of good exchanges for bitcoin and altcoins, the wise decision will be to leave it from now, and it should have to end as it already have harmed bitcoin much and it is its second attack in the last two or three months.

Now fishing emails rushing up all over bfx userbase. Fuckers. When a company sends out phishing mails and writes up a blog post that covers the precaution measures against mails they themselves send out thats a fucking bad sign. Look around, where are all crypto exchanges that have run up debts in their ambition and gone insolvent after similar phishing horseshit.

Well, it seems Zane has now confirmed that BTC holders and USD lenders who had funds tied to BTCUSD longs are taking a haircut.

Can you (or anyone else) cite a reference for this? Specifically the "longs" bit.

Zane has implied this several times by saying "If you lent USD to borrowers who bought bitcoins which were stolen, what would be used to pay back the lender?"

When people have asked about the opposite situation -- lenders who lent BTC to borrowers who sold for USD -- he said "We will cover that in our announcement."

Will there be a haircut for users that didnt short or long but simply stored money? Any updates, ETAs on the future route? When will I get my money back?

It sounds like that depends what currencies you held. Zane has implied this will affect only users tied to the stolen BTC (whether as a holder or a lender), not LTC/ETC/ETH holders or those holding unlended USD.

Nothing set in stone yet, but those are the rumors.

If people did want to get legal on their ass where would they begin? As far as I can tell they're not really in Hong Kong any more, the employees are scattered all over the world and the servers are elsewhere too.

I wouldn't have a clue where to begin with that type of thing. As the US seems to have caused all this by forcing them to abandon cold storage, I assume someone knows where there's some jurisdiction.

Their corporate holdings are spread across multiple jurisdictions -- British Virgin Islands, Hong Kong, Taiwan and possibly elsewhere. Their owners and employees are spread across the world with no corporate headquarters.

This is a jurisdictional nightmare, and it was done on purpose. Attempts at litigation to force bankruptcy will probably make owners flee with any money that's left. Our best hope is a miracle investment group or minimal haircut involving owners giving up all past profits.

We will lose everything in a bankruptcy.

it's not a nightmare. the police will go after the owners which are from Italy, Holland. it's just a matter of time.

also, i am not sure why don't you push to get the refund in cash. Bitfinex is sitting on a ALOT of money in their bank accounts Smiley

I did not receive the phishing email either. I doubt this a leaked database, as many people have reported the same.

I think this is just an opportunistic phisher with bad English trying to steal more from a userbase that has already been victimized.

Being from Italy and Holland =/= that is where you are hiding. Is that where you would hide?

Try China, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia.

Bitfinex is sitting on a lot of cash, but not enough to pay out USD equivalent for losses. Their best option is accepting a lowball buyout offer, give up majority ownership, and pay out affected users in USD equivalent.

I think people or members of bitfinex right now are lost faith about that site but they are still waiting to get altcoins in her account.. and  i think yeah dont trust again that site it may result of scam..

It's important to remember that no exchange is immune to this -- particularly because so many signs point to an inside job. An inside job could bypass Bitfinex's multi-sig security, sure. An inside job could also bypass any exchange's cold security.

It really just depends who has what privileges at the admin level.

I can also confirm I did not receive the email. I'm guessing someone just took a database that was leaked already (many bitcoin businesses have leaked databases all over the dark web) and took a shot at scamming some more money.

No signs that it came from Bitfinex.

This is one event that is similar to the MTGOX. Direct bitcoin prices decline caused by the hackers.
This incident reminds us that security is one of the most important point in the world of internet.
bitcoin should be able to provide more security to make people more confident using it.
