still nothing official?? I have around 100btc stuck there!

Call the police.

You'll probably have more fun contacting this lot - https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

A friend of mine was interviewed by the FBI, even though he was in the UK. I was dead jealous.

I mean local police. Not all customers lives in States.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

The FBI will certainly be interested and they do have an awful lot of US customers. It was US regulators who fined them even though they're (likely to be) nowhere near the US. My local police are better equipped for chasing escaped sheep than online criminals.

Still haven't been able to get in touch with Jean Louis van der Velde or one of those Italians...  Huh

and you won't. I am sure there is nobody in HK now. they are in Europe thinking how to spend your and other clients money.
leen93, you have around of 1 mil USD with them. it's not 100k or 200k...it's 1 MILLION USD.

go to police and report it. you are losing valuable time.

you think I didn't do that yet? That was the first thing I did once I heard about it. But currently in South Africa and don't expect too much from these people...

Still not a single fucking update from bitfinex either after 4 days -_-

Bitfinex is based in Hong Kong, IIRC. Remember hearing a lot about how bitcoin is "unregulated" there when the attack happened. But yes, the FBI always likes to get involved in big scale cyber crime cases, a figure I heard was if more than $100,000 dollars is involved then they want to hear about it. And at least that amount was stolen here so we'll probably see them somewhere.

Well looks like you are gonna lose 36% of that.... and my guess is that you will receive the USD equivalent for the BTC, not the actually BTC. Can't really expect Bitfinex to buy 120k BTC on the open market, and no courts would frown upon paying customers the USD equivalent.

I imagine a premium will develop between Bitfinex and the other exchanges....

36% isn't as bad as I thought. I think most people were thinking 80%+ which would be unrecoverable. If commissions are tunneled into compensation then things can probably be back to normal within a year.

That's if you believe it's 36%. I kind of don't. I think we will only find out if enough people remove their (remaining) coins and we see if withdrawals stop working aka. the Karpeles effect.

Well, the implication is that this represents 36% of all assets. Estimates on the hacked bitcoin as a % of Bitfinex's total bitcoins were more in the range of 60-70%. So this is pretty reasonable. I sure hope that directors are contributing significant profits to the efforts -- prospective investors will expect no less. Still hoping that the 36% loss is recovered in a buyout scenario.

I think bitfinex announce that they will giveback your credit that you can redeem after they are done to calculate all their loses.. so i think better to wait more days or weeks.

there is no longer talk because it is likely to reveal such cases are very small, look at the case in mtgox is still unresolved.
