Gambling is an investment which you know what odds you're getting. However, in an investment you are not playing against anyone. With gambling you are playing against the house, and the house will always have an advantage over you.

I think it's a mixed of both. Mainly it's a game, where you risk something in order to get something back.

Well, with your definition in gambling it will not make you lose more than your budget and will not be addicted, hopefully most of us will realize that gambling is more like that so they will not chase anymore for bigger profit which is very hard to realize. Your definition is not a definition of gambling, certainly that is an action of addicted gamblers where he always think of gambling despite the loses.
