He could also do exactly what Claymore did for AMD GPUs and that is just build in 5% of the time the program mines for him.

No need for a pool.  Just do it directly in the software.

Of course open source is much better, but what we got here is Christian's source instead. C&c are the only developers of ccminer, if it was a community effort, it was a different story. But as long as he got better code that he keeps for himself, what btw he's totally entitled to do and I have nothing against it,  its not really the open source community you're talking about.

You do know that before CCMiner, we've had Cudaminer, and that it was another contributor that helped bump everyone's hashrates on Scrypt (and Scrypt-Jane IIRC). Bigjme's examples are also quite on the mark for community contributions. An open source effort is inclusive and attracts more contributors, period. Christian's source also carries over code from other projects, or at least it did as it started out (cpuminer...).

Do you see the pattern? When you open source your project, you're not only giving something away to others. You're also inviting them into the rabbit hole. Much better.  Wink

All i have to say is, christian, don't get too drunk on your profit, and don't forget to show pictures when you start having your pc gold plated because it makes so much money Wink

First of all, I got my nvidia rigs about 3 month ago, so I don't really know cudaminer history. I would prefer it stays open source, I just thought about an idea for christian, that could benefit us as well.
No one promise us that nvidia miners will be still efficient in the future (new algos etc). Building and optimizing a miner is hard work, and if Christian is almost the only one developer, not sure it worth his time if he can't benefit much from it. In a normal open source project there's 10 Christians, and each one coding a part of it. I'm working now on FPGA miner, and I got to say, its much harder and time consuming than. I've imagined

http://github.com/zelante/ccminer/releases

v1.2.2 "Split Screen ccMiner" (2014-06-17) Source + Windows Binary release

Add exit by keypress F10
Fixed info string for gpu. now order of info statistic equal to order in key -d
Fixed console output key --help

I have 4 GPU mining and one is not. The console shows 4 GPU, 3 that are mining and one that is not. The 4th GPU that is mining is not shown in the console.

Hope that makes sense.

Oh, and all seems stable for 12 hours so far.

XMR is too crowd now. People are mining and holding, waiting for the next DRK. Sorry Christian but it's not my thing. I mine QCN instead, they have the same protocol like XMR and a very competent dev. They even have GUI wallet now (still experimental). Right now everyone's mining XMR, it's my chance to get more QCN. If XMR should ever got explode, I think QCN deserves the same popularity as XMR. QCN has 120 sec block time and 1/2 less block reward than XMR, so logically it should 4 times expensive than XMR  Grin.

+1...

Mining QCN almost from the beginning with my core i5@4ghz and holding. I found it to be greater coin than XMR and other similarities.

I didn't sell when it was almost 6$ if I remember correctly. Now it will back up very soon.

I'd go with some investment in XMR and BBR. For XMR I'd have my buy's set around 0.0046~0.0049. For BBR I'm not familiar enough with the trading activity and mining costs to make any sort of call on value though. These would not be investments for day-trading, though I suppose some will get away with that also (I did boost my XMR holdings by 20% or so by day-trading some these past few days).

For all the other alts, X11, X13, scrypt and what not, I'd say I've personally lost faith. I see most having very little to offer beyond the rather common pump & dump. I'll be happy to sell most BTC that I have when it approaches 700USD, and buy back when it's down to 500USD, so as a trading investment, I'd say Euro (and to less extent USD) are also good opportunities.

Warning: I've been known to be (very) wrong, plenty times!

If there will ever be such a thing as CUDApool, I do not envision it as a closed source playpen for Cbuchner and associated. The software will still be open-source. Rather, what would make CUDApool special is donator rewards. Let's say you donate X%, with this level you get access to a part of the site, telling you about what coins to watch. At 1,2*X%, you get access to the worklist of Cbuchner, you can see what he's working on, with a tentative ETA. More rewards can be thought of. This will get people to donate more. The existing donation address still keeps existing of course. Perhaps you could even rank people based on the BTC donated, all the way from 'green-looking rookie' to 'mean, green, mining machine'.

But this is not the only thing. Say you have a improvement, such as the X13 mod of tsiv. You could apply it at the pool, and if accepted, you would get a percentage of the pool profits for a time period, dependent on the size and importance of the contribution. This would get people to share their improvements more often, and not keep them for themselves.

Also, if the CUDApool would support up and coming coins, Cbuchner would be able to get some bounties as well.

This was the incredible work of Mr. ChrisH, who has unfortunately left this dream team.
Okay, I contributed the to/from bitslice transformations, the quad implementation and
some debugging help Wink
