Just had an appointment with my GP Doctor this morning, and bought up the conversation of BTC. He told me he was booking a place on a seminar next month, and he had been told the cost was either £700 or £550 if paid in BTC, so it had made him do some reading up on it...he was more enthused by btc than i am..and this is a 50 year old doctor.

As a member of the esteemed profession myself it is nice to hear that word is finally getting out!

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I'm actually looking for a data feed from Huobi and OKCoin at the moment for a project... but if I find it I am afraid I will drown in data Smiley
bitcoincharts.com now (finally!) lists OKCoin. (Maybe next century they will admit the existence of Huobi too.)  You can get the summary data from the site, at 1 minute intervals, since the site started (but only 2 days at a time).

You can get transaction logs for Huobi and OKCoin through bitcoinwisdom's API, but I don't know how far back in the past.

As a doc he's probably quite an intelligent man and people who are rich stay rich for a reason. Even if you knew about BTC and thought it was a scam ponzi etc etc you would be an idiot not to buy enough to pay that bill and save yourself 150 quid lol.

Just based on my gut reaction to the charts on several timeframes, I would say 40% up, 50% sideways (within 0.5 or maybe 1% of current), 10% down.

Yeah, here in Brazil MDs too have two prices, "with receipt" and "without receipt".  If you ask for a receipt you can deduct some of that expense when you file your taxes --- but then he too has to declare that income when he files his taxes, because the Brazilian IRS is likely to do a cross-check.

They can't do to many without receipt I would assume. Sorry IRS, my income this year was only 5% of last year. I've been a bit lazy Wink
Actually they do, and are amazingly open about it.  They take checks to the bearer and somehow launder them.  That must be one of the things that they learn in their 7 years of school, that we engineers don't get to learn in our 5 years.  Grin

This falling guy always writes 'This user is currently ignored.' in every topic I'm watching. Why is he doing that? It looks really stupid.

Same here, it's been like that since the first day he started posting. You would think he would just stop posting knowing it always says that.

Easy solution? Incorporate outside of the US and give them the middle finger. Americans always think their laws apply outside of the US.
It doesn't apply in New Jersey, for example, only in New York -- assuming of course that it applies in New York, which is typical but by no means given.

I wouldn't be surprised by that.  A 50 year old doctor probably has a portfolio of $3-4 million.  He is at the age when you start getting serious about financial planning.

Understand, guys like that go to great lengths to protect their money: setting offshore corporation, transferring a large percentage of their assets to it, investing tax free (until the money is repatriated).  To transfer the assets, they usually have to play a game of some kind, like buying an annuity from their offshore company which is paid by a large balloon payment.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, makes it simple.  You can still do the offshore thing, but with near zero hassle: give the wallet to the corporation (left pocket to right pocket), sell using an account in the offshore name, invest profits.  He would only pay taxes when he brings the money back to his home country if it is structured correctly.

People like to talk about btc replacing gold; it is better than that for money management and transferring wealth.  Much, much better.

I resemble that remark.

Thanks for the info. I have had a look at bitcoincharts.com and they almost cover everything... but with a 15 min. delay. I don't think Bitcoinwisdom offer API access, but you probably also meant bitcoincharts.com anyway. I did find this for OKCoin and for Huobi i found this Xchange plugin. Xchange is Java based and after spending endless time with it I finally got it working on my server... But I really hate Java with a passion, so I will continue to look for a different solution  Smiley

Lastly I also found historical CSV-data for Houbi here. Once it is updated I will see if I can find out more about the glitch we saw earlier today on Bitcoinwisdom.
