Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

bitstamp hacked, no proof of reserves
bitfinex hacked, no proof of reserves
okcoin claims to be no legal entity

1) dictate the price by creating fake volume
2) you want as many btc as possible before you run away. your limiting factor is fiat. fiat can't be faked easily because your bank can proof the reserves.
3) generate database bitcoin out of thin air. dump them on the market strategically to get lowest possible USD price.
4) buy real bitcoin as cheap as possible, as much as you can without driving the price up.
5) claim you have been hacked. close your business.
6) profit!

There are people putting up massive walls on both buy and sell sides. They keep putting them up then pulling them back down again, but nothing's happening. If either side really meant it they would just start eating through a wall, not put up an opposing wall.

this is probably why price is so stable, manipulation has shifted from manipulate the price down as we profit,  to hold the price down while we accumulate

I ain't waiting till the last min to get in, i'm pretty much done accumulating.

i suspect Mr.M. will keep it up as long as he can...

and with market seemingly as weak as it is i think it's going to work for a long while,

so very stable prices for the next 6-12 months ?

Not if it is the same person putting up both walls....

Bitcoin could be a lifesaver in 3rd world countries where dictators, and tyranny governments want to control the people with their economy where I feel if bitcoin collapsed, with the price of bitcoin down far enough somebody would want resurrect it as a sub-economy for the poor people's of the world.
