So are bear traps self fulfilling in that someone just has to keep smacking the price around enough that investors lose faith or get bored or whatever long enough that the money flows out? I do not understand what you mean. Here is a common definition of a bear trap from Investopedia ... A false signal that the rising trend of a stock or index has reversed when it has not. A bear trap prompts traders to place shorts on the stock or index, since they expect the underlying to decline in value. Instead of declining further, the investment stays flat, or slightly recovers. |

For me, this place seems to have gone from a mostly honest discussion about the price to a lot of people trying to talk the price up or down in order to try to sell high or buy cheap (mostly the latter). |

Yeah, but actually I think an actual put offer is a good reality check. Because there's a BIG difference between saying NEVER and selling a put option for 100BTC for qty 250BTC! And note the buyer holds all the counterparty risk. To me the word NEVER would put the price at 1-5%. Since there is no risk this cost is just to pay for the time, effort, and opportunity cost involved. |

I have to agree with you. There is a big difference between expressing an opinion and trying to jawbone the price in one direction or the other. I feel sorry for the inexperienced traders that are taken in by the latter. I am sooooo extremely bored of the reptile's perpetual nonsense FWIW There is one good thing I have to say about the 'jawboners' ... they can be useful contra-indicators ... |

I'm not taking rpietila's offer because I think I'm comfortable as is, without needing to leverage. I have about 80 dollars on MtGox per every BTC I have (including everything I have in cold storage). If the price goes up, my Bitcoins rise in value. If the price goes down, I have an opportunity to purchase more bitcoins at a reduced price.
That's more or less my situation. |
