That's Americans for you. They put up with banking that's stuck somewhere around 1832. I think they still deliver cash by stagecoach too.

And that's why the US Dollar is world reserve currency, and GBP is ...didn't you guys have a some sort of an empire to exploit once? What happened with that?  When did everything begin to all go so wrong?
I remember you guys even had an auto industry, to use up all that natural rubber from the colonies no doubt -- cars with rubber douche bag suspensions and bikes with those clever isolastic frames that totally didn't handle like a worn-out shopping cart or ever leak oil, all equipped with excellent Lucas 'Prince of Darkness' electrics (which cleverly used natural rubber insulation)?

Oh shit, BLOCKCHAIN IS DOWN!

Shortly my ass! How am I supposed to transact with my Bit-coins?

You are not the first person to find yourself in that situation, so someone made a thread explaining how to get your private key from the encrypted "wallet.aes.json" backup file emailed to you when you created your blockchain.info wallet.

Once you have your private key the guide explains how to import it into electrum, or multibit. However, the guide was written before multibit changed to multibit HD, so you should use the instructions explaining how to import your key into electrum.

This is the OP of the "how to" thread.

Blockchain.info Wallet is the most popular online wallet for Bitcoin. So when it is unexpectedly down for maintenance, plenty of users are caught off guard, unable to send Bitcoins for a payment or to exchanges.

Some advanced users would have exported the wallet or private keys in various format, and keep them in a safe place, ready to be imported into other Bitcoin clients. However, most users would just have the encrypted "wallet.aes.json" backup file emailed to them, and wouldn't know what to do with it.

This guide aims to help users to prepare themselves for a quick access to their Blockchain Wallet funds with "wallet.aes.json" backup if Blockchain.info is offline. I will try to improve this guide as it goes.

    - Importing Blockchain.info backup with Multibit
    - Quicker way to access your funds using decrypt tool and Electrum
    - Always have the latest wallet backup at any given time
Post #3
    - Decrypt wallet with Blockchain Tool
Post #4
    - Install Multibit
    - Import backup into MultiBit
Post #5
    - Install Electrum
    - Import private keys into Electrum

Updates:
2014-05-03  Initial post
2014-05-07  Edited notes and link as Multibit removed support for ".json"

Possibly part of the explanation for low Gemini volume, and even lower volume on the weekends, so far.

Gemini does seem to be slow as fuck to get deposits.

On 10/16 I sent a fiat deposit to Gemini and I sent one to Coinbase.  I received my Coinbase deposit on 10/22, and I just today received my Gemini deposit.  Actually I recall initiating the Gemini deposit process several hours before I initiated the Coinbase deposit.

Whats so special about gemini? (cant register, im outside USA)
That twins are so dumb. They bought coins around 400-500.. another failed investment as i see  Grin
FaceCoins, this time

Actually, as far as I can tell, I believe that Gemini is NOT really adding much of anything different from the Coinbase Exchange.

however, Gemini was touted as a means for institutional investors to have additional confidence in the security of their funds being on that exchange, but I am NOT sure whether that claim is true, so in that regard, I am NOT really sure what Gemini adds to the security of the Coinbase exchange.

It is possible that some people are getting Gemini mixed up with the ETF that has NOT yet been approved, and there can be some credence that is provided to Gemini because the twins are simultaneously seeking approval of an ETF (which makes the twins, as a bitcoin business, distinguished from others in terms of their attempts to bring bitcoin to wallstreet).

I brought up my experience with delay in deposits, just to point out that slow deposits may be part of the explanation for their slow take-off in the BTC trading volume department - including further signs of low trading volume during the past couple of weekends.

Some technical questions from a noob:
1. How much longer [than we can remain solvent] should we expect this correction to continue?
2. Is this correction a part of the correction we've been experiencing for the last two years?
thanks Smiley

The US is world reserve currency because the US won WWII. And GBP isn't because of WWI and WWII.

Thank you for the answer. I was so incandescently enraged by having my national currency insulted that I smashed up the house and pushed Grandma's head through the wall. I don't know if she's going to make it through the night. There's consequences to internet baiting, kids.

>And GBP isn't because [Brits lost] WWII.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Incorrect. Behind closed doors we're brought up drinking urine. That's a hangover from WW2 when all water was diverted to the war effort. It's uncouth to do that in public so we make do with beer served at bladder temperature.
