On the earlier discussion about money not making you happy.

I recall a study done where it's not so much that money makes you happy but not having money makes you less happy.

I think the key is to reach the point where you're not worried about money anymore so you can focus on better things in life. But the less money you have, you certainly do need to worry about money. I've been at the lowest end of the scale to well beyond the highest and I would agree.

I would caveat this with the fact that though I did not have money (I figured out the many ways to cook potatoes as it was all I had to eat for weeks, and later finding Bar-S hot dogs for $1 and a loaf of bread for $1 could get me through a week of meals) I knew that if things got too bad I could fall back on family. So my level of desperation never hit huge lows.

My current goal in life is not about having super cool awesome stuff, lambos, etc. It's about ensuring that the rest of my life I am not in the position I was early in my life. My problem with government has always been that they are the biggest factor in stopping me from ensuring my future through the use of violence.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still in the mid-$4xxxx range... currently $47890USD/$57660CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Go Bitcoin go.
_____

New car?

We're having trouble getting the Honda Pioneer 700-4 Deluxe we wanted. All the dealerships have been sold out since last January. Nothing expected this year. Seems Covid has increased demand for anything outdoorsy. RVs and trailers are scarce and at a premium. Campsite bookings are being scalped.

Then this John Deere Gator 825-S4 became available on Kijiji:

Only 1200km on the odometer and best of all, the seller will accept Bitcoin as payment.

He said he sold last year at $50kCAD out of necessity and welcomes the chance to buy back in without paying fees.

Gotta love real-world OTC/face-to-face Bitcoin transactions. No commissions, no hidden costs. Just a few satoshis worth of TX fees to the network.

Yay Bitcoin.

Is the bill/amendment news a dead duck now then? Do we just not care?  Cheesy

We don't give a fuck duck!  Cool

FTFY

Fuck a dead duck

Fuck Kwukduck.  Cool

Hmmmm...  That's an awesome find and what are the odds of finding another guy who's also used bitcoin?!  Adoption is happening!

Fuck amazon, fuck Google

Anyone who supports this shit company deserves their books to be deleted Cheesy

Any books I get from Amazon are proper paper books.  Books I can read relaxing by the fire, without batteries.  Paper quality is shit these days, but what you gonna do?

As for me, I prefer my books in PDF format, or anything that I can easily convert into PDF, as I can then save that forever and read it offline, and nothing will change that too. I understand some tech or movement is out there to just use plain .txt files or something.

PDF has some issues because it is a display/layout format and doesn't work well with some devices. It's not terrible though. epub and mobi are basically marked-up text which is designed for reflow and is fine as an archive format. PDF is preferable for some works which rely on layout so there are some competing aims there. FWIW, the PDF format was originally not open but it turned out their protection was incredibly weak. Plain text has a whole range of issues as a book format and is only really any good for the simplest of works.

Paintings are hung.
Men are hanged.
Good of you to point that out, on a forum where for many posting here, English is not their first or even second language.
Please no grammar police in WO.

A good point, and one that I have made here numerous times.  Not applicable in this case, however. <facepalm>

It's not a "DeFi hack", it's a buggy smart contract that was built on a buggy platform with a buggy programming language.

I've said for a while that they should have used a language that was designed for the domain where the contracts could be mathematically proven. Possibly they should have gone with COBOL or something Cheesy

I am not sure why the market is rising, but we investors are all optimistic about the future trend of prices. At the current price, many people think that this price is underestimated, so this price fluctuation may just be a callback to the true value of the cryptocurrency. Whatever the reason, this field is worth celebrating.

Consistent and to the point.
I am torn between believing he is just very sarcastic and humorous, and at times he can be very funny, or just a bear troll disillusioned with Bitcoin because of his past losses. Either way he is an essential part of the WO ecosystem.

Wheres Gembitz is just annoying and possibly related to BillyCoiner nocoiner, both go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Looking at Worldwide Google Trends data for the search term 'bitcoin' going back 5 years from now, in 2017, during the climax of the bull market the term got the highest hits with the second bull run this year getting the second highest hits.

The price has since risen 252% beyond that high, and general search sentiment is yet to reach that level.

Conclusion:
Unlike in 2017 where the price of Bitcoin was at large driven by recreational investors, this time the money is coming in from institutions. This then means that there's plenty of room for opportunity and onboarding from the average Joe/s.

It is now, and in the future that average Joe/s will start to Google 'crypto' and then 'when/where lambo'

LOSE/LOSE

*That* is exactly what you get with ETH.

You can do 300,000 stupid things on the ETH blockchain.  Once a half dozen or so, of those things emerge as useful those ideas will be ported over to something built to handle it on a LAYER on Bitcoin safely isolated from the main chain.

The future is obvious.  And I am tired of waiting for the idiots to be dragged into it. Wink

In the end, if you were not happy before you were rich, it's unlikely you will be happy when you are (rich).
My two cents.

But what if you are unhappy because you aren't rich?

Short answer: Then you don't know better.

Long answer: Following in the evening.

Good day!

Elaboration:

If you are unhappy because you aren't rich, you ignore the most basic principle of happiness: It comes from the inside, not from the outside.
I know only two rich persons personally, both of which are very unhappy. Now guess why? Because they are rich.
They are stressed out by their fear of getting poor, either by other people (wife(s), scammers, good "friends", family) or by losing money or wealth because of investments. They secure their homes at the highest level, alarm systems, cameras, gps tracked cars, butlers with military/defense skills. They can never travel alone, not even take a walk outside of their security areas. They are cursed by their richness.
One of them was the best drummer i ever saw/heard. He had a room full of vinyl metal records (i miss the 90s), he grew long hair down to the lower back, he was a good drinker, great companion for drug explorations, intelligent, a funny companion, a womanizer... a bit arrogant, though.
At the age of 18 his parents, that he occasionally met, took him aside for some "serious talk". After that day i met him only once again, for a very long time. He told us that his parents let him choose either to continue his lifestyle and get disinherited or cut his hair short, give up the band, the metal lifestyle, quit the drugs, cut off the relationships to his friends and become introduced into the life of the riches, and take his place in the family business.
I saw him a couple of years ago, walking out of a banks building. He looked somewhat unhappy, with a lot of grief on his face, dressed up royal business style. He didn't recognize me, maybe because he wasn't looking directly at me. I was feeling a little scared (that's not the right term, but i was kind of "surprised" in a negative way).
He had to tweak (or kill) his inner self to match the expectations of the world of the rich, to stay inside. He fell for the plain old "selling your soul" thing.

Later i got introduced to a nephew of him, who i asked about him, and he just replied "You know my uncle? He is a fucking madman."
So i told him the story of his uncle's former teenage life. It was hard for him to imagine that he could have been anything like the rock'n roller i described to him.

That was one lesson in life that taught me a lot.

The other lesson came from a poor friend of mine. He traveled the world to do some dirty work, just to be able to have money to move on. His belongings were kept in a big backpack, which carried a digeridoo which he used to play for spare change over the world. He spent several months in various monasteries. When he was around again, a common friend asked him why he always seems so happy, without a home, without a job, living this uneasy backpack life, if he never experiences something like sorrow or existential fear. He just said: "i smile". Later on, he explained that he learned one of the most valuable lessons in his life in a british krishna monastery. He was meditating with a big grin, every day, as long as he could. He was told to smile throughout the day, and if he recognizes he isn't smiling, just smile again and keep going. He said that this taught him true, deep happiness. When he came back after over a decade, had two children with a young woman, took a job, then took two jobs, he got more serious and lost his happiness for a couple of years, until they divorced (this girl was a real bitch, imo). He backed away with a backpack again and some of his happiness came back, but he never became the easy, lucky type of guy he was before. I still meet him once in a while.

After reading these two true stories, answer me yourself:
So what do you think you really need to be happy?

EDIT: added some details.

EDIT2: remembering this stuff gave me some unpleasant feelings. Gotta work that out now. Good night, comrades. #hodl on!

EDIT 3: One last thing: The original wording by my poor, happy friend was "If you're always happy, you can't stop smiling. If you don't stop smiling, you're always happy". He described it as "something like a feedback-looped duality" (freely translated)

This is just pathetic, let's suppose for a moment the hacker entertains the idea of communicating with them, what kind of deal can they offer to him which is worth 600 million dollars? Not only that they are assuming all of this is because of the money when we know there are several hackers which are more than anything interested in the challenge of doing something like this and once they pull it off they lose all interest.

So if he never touches those coins again and he was able to cover his tracks then there is a decent chance they will never catch him.

Every dip is getting eaten at the moment, this feels like a really strong base for a run at a new ATH within the next 6-8 weeks.

I’m a lot happier with the way things are going at the moment. We’ve all been involved in bitcoin for a long time now but it doesn’t make times like May 2021 any easier. I was a panicking little bitch for long periods back then. It really does feel like we’re getting ready for new highs soon now.

I can feel the engines starting up, the train is getting ready to leave the station once again.
