... replaced my hot water heater with a heat pump heater ...

What's a heat pump?

Its like a AC unit that dumps the heat into the water instead of the outside air, awesome for added ac in the summer as well.

What happens if it's freezing cold inside the house, and there's no heat to dump into the water.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Its good to below freezing because the gasses are under pressure as well as then being well gasses that don't freeze at those temps lol.

You can opt to vacate the excess cool air out through a vent for the winter, not unlike a dryer vent.

About as off topic as it gets but just thought i'd share for anyone e thats interested.

I switched all my bulbs over to LED, replaced my old 60 inch backlite TV and replaced my hot water heater with a heat pump heater and this year my electric is less than half what it was last year!

If anyone is thinking of doing this I highly recommend it. Smiley

You know your old when you love your hot water heater.

yeah i have a hybrid hot water heater set to heat pump only mode (can do hybrid or burst electric etc yours prolly has several modes).. dehumidifies and cools my unfinished basement when it fires up. my dehumidifier in the basement works less, so free(ish) hot water as the dehumidifier comes on less. gotta dehumidify the basement in the summer anyway so win/win.

Yeah, I've had it in efficiency mode for a year and never ran out of hot water and I soak in a hot tub every few days for my spine.

Well done GS Elevator, it has been a long time since you nailed one:

I get the sentiment, but using log scale for Bitcoin and linear for fiat makes this extremely dishonest, not unlike what Goldman Sachs proper would do.

Do you like it more like this?

Both Logaritmic

Both Linear:

Source data.

This is probably from ATH, right?
There was a youtube video of a Ben Cowen and PlanB meetup where they discussed it.
TL;DR: planB is skeptical of lengthening and diminishing cycles if you present an unbiased data (not from ATH or lows, but as a whole). BC was a bit annoyed by this, but the meet was very polite, regardless. The thing is superlong (90min), so maybe OK to watch at 1.5-2X speed and in the background  Cheesy

Happy to be under the group of people who does understand this  Cool Grin

Now that there are bitcoin-based NFTs, I'm willing to entertain the idea of them having some valid use cases. Digital collectibles, souvenirs, in-game items, etc., are the obvious cases. But real-world items too, anything with a serial number could have its ownership connected to an NFT. Guns, cars, real estate, stock market certificates, etc. Bitcoin is revolutionizing the world.

(...)

Still, it's not the money that makes you happier. It are the things it buys you, aren't they?
So i stand by my point, people get happier if they get rich, because they know how money makes them able to buy things that make them happy.
BUT many things make you happy only for a short time. So people want "more happy", buy more things. The old supercar isn't super anymore? No problem, buy a new one. Enjoy it until you see the next, even more super supercar. The moment you know there is a better one you want to have, you're unhappy (about still having the old one).

Not sure about this. Wasn't freedom what we were looking for? The "fuck you" level?

There's a lot of unseen continuous costs coming with "things", be it a house, a car, a laptop or a TV: taxes, storage room, subscriptions, memberships, repair and maintenance etc.

Buying more things is not the right way of maintaining fuck you level, mate.

After all this hodling and determination for years and years to get this virtual money running, are you really going to find happiness in spending your profits on material stuff? Not saying you're wrong or right, only that I have other plans.

(FYI if I'm not mistaken, the true meaning of "No woman no cry" is actually "No woman, don't cry")

Absolutely right imo.
I actually don't believe that things make people happier, i just presented an explanation of a common misinterpretation (of money making people happy) to Arrie.
So, freedom from money and from the need to earn-to-survive also creates happiness. This is closing the circle for me. Thanks for pointing to the freedom aspect.

On "no woman"... From Patwah (Patois) it would be valid to be interpreted as "no woman, don't cry", too. Too bad Bob (Marley) can't be asked anymore about this.

You've said it mate.

Which opens another existential discussion/question: why do we have to have money (be it BTC or whatever) and therefore "buy" our freedom? Weren't we supposed to be born with freedom?

Well... Just another example of WO and Ivory Tower blending "zusammen"...

Encryption will save us, according to this columnist:

Encrypted messages (Signal, etc.).  Encrypted email (protonmail).  Encrypted money (BTC).

bitbo.io has a few news items each day from Bitcoin Magazine, and their BTC dashboard is rather good.  I go there every day, multiple times..

I also like the mempool.space site for looking at status of mining blocks and fees.
