https://www.newsbtc.com/news/bitcoin/bitcoin-whale-wallet-with-150-million-activated-after-8-years/

And you guys scared one of these whales to move their coins.. Keep talking about "abandoned" coins and we might see some movement from old addresses.

This is just another reason the idea of "lost coins" is el stupido.  The ONLY person with the rights to move bitcoin is the holder of that (those) private key(s).

Period.

And it is their right to move them as they please.  Even if it frightens people, or means they are rich, or crashes the price.  Or proves they are Satoshi, or ANYTHING.  PERIOD.

I am not scared.  I still have the keys to my coins.

I suspect the vast majority of the “frozen” coins are not lost or abandon

pretend that the number is 4 million coins 2.4 million would be by long term holders not lost and movable. much as the ones above were just done.

It all an exercise in imagination when we are trying to guess 2049-2059 btc rules and decisions.

realistically I have 20 years left to live. based on family male history 77-86 years old is a common death age for men.

I personally hold keys with satoshis that have not moved since 2011.

And I am not far behind you.. might even beat you to the finish line if my luck doesn't hold up. Wink

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I don't see why there is a need to "recover" "lost or abandoned" coins.
Since BTC is divisible by so many digits it just means that the eco system will run on whatever coins are in circulation.
Hell we could have only 1 BTC actively being moved around and the system would still work.
There is absolutely no need to "recover" anything since the system functions just fine no matter how few coins are actively transacted.
Just use smaller pieces.

The issue about "lost" bitcoins has been discussed some time ago. Right now, there is nothing that can be done about them and likely nothing will ever be done about them. Lost = Lost and that's it. There are always new coins being mined, and transaction fees get included in the block reward, so there will always be new mined coins.

The issue that is being discussed are about ancient coins that don't live in addresses, the ones before the 1xxx addresses, the ones before the legacy ones. Any addresses that begin with 1, or 3, or bc1q are going to remain the way they are and never moved unless the owner or holder of the private key spends them.

I think those are the pay to pub key transactions. No addresses, just public keys. Those were already "obsolete" around after 2010 or 2011. Those are the only ones that may be "questionable" as they are not protected by a hash of the public key.

This is a VERY good point, and a problem not spoken of often.  This will probably WILL have to address at some point.  Or accept that the spoils will go to the victor.  If I was a myopic CS genius with access to early Quantum computers I might set my sites on these.

. Dude I will be dead when the fight over frozen coins is started. The fight will be that they are not lost keys. The fight will be that they are abandoned coins.

If you have any idea about worldwide legal bullshit in general and human nature those "frozen" coins will be fought over bigly down the road.

Like I said won't happen anytime soon. But it is going to happen.

The thing people are trying to express is:

1. That argument already exists.  In the context of Satoshi's coins, and lack of inflation and block reward etc.
2. Recirculating lost or abandoned coins is a CHANGE to Bitcoin's basic monetary policy.

In my opinion that change to the policy would BREAK bitcoin.

I think you are possibly making your assumptions because of a life lived in a FIAT world where these sorts of arguments are the very ways the masters of the system have gamed the system to benefit the masters themselves.

As a gen-x member I sort of hate the arrogant millennials/zoomers when they say "OK Boomer"... but... but...

'OK Boomer' I hate that term more so since that fucking communist Ocasio-Cortez used it.

When I hear it used, it conjures up an age old story:

A farmer goes out one day and buys a brand new stud rooster for his chicken coop. The new rooster struts over to the old rooster and says, "Okay old fart, time for you to retire."

The old rooster replies, "Come on, surely you cannot handle all of these chickens. Look what it has done to me. Can't you just let me have the two old hens over in the corner?"

The young rooster says, "Beat it! You are washed up and I am taking over."

The old rooster says, "I tell you what, young stud. I will race you around the farmhouse. Whoever wins gets the exclusive domain over the entire chicken coop."

The young rooster laughs, "You know you don't stand a chance old man, so just to be fair I will give you a head start."

The old rooster takes off running. About 15 seconds later the young rooster takes off running after him. They round the front porch of the farmhouse and the young rooster has closed the gap. He is already about 5 inches behind the old rooster and gaining fast. The farmer, meanwhile, is sitting in his usual spot on the front porch when he sees the roosters running by. He grabs up his shotgun and boom, he blows the young rooster to bits. The farmer sadly shakes his head and says, "Dangit, third gay rooster I bought this month."

Moral of the story...

Don't mess with us old folks. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

Ok Boomer, two things you forgot... this is not 1950 and Kids these days see more then it meets the eye Tongue

Modern rooster would be like :

Yeah go ahead i give you 15 sec of head start while the old rooster would be running the young one would jump on the Chickens Cheesy

Modern times forced evolution upon kids and that is evidentable Smiley

And you are the mother fucker who hasn't even been able to amass your dream goal of 3 paltry Bitcoin, though you've had plenty of chances to. Then comes here begging for them rather than devising a plan. While the boomer fools sit on their Bitcoin hoard. Ha Ha

Oh no, bitcoin crashed to levels not seen since 2 days ago.

I don't want to start some sh!t again.... But it might go to $52K in the next week or so... maybe in 2-3 tops.  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Cool

$53k is quite possible but $89k is more likely.

Are you prepared for both eventualities?

You make your own circumstances.

When you get older you realize that every fuck up in your life is down to your mistakes and bad planning alone.

No one else's fault.

It is shit being old, so get on and enjoy being young, make some plans and work hard to make them happen.

You could start with buying a few satoshis on your way to 3 Bitcoin.

Back to the 64xxx again I see, getting really tired of this, really, really, tired.

I know what you mean. The 60s have been an absolute shit of a level. First time we got here a 50% correction followed and when we eventually break the ATH at 64k we only get a piss weak move, then a dump, almost get to 70k, another dump.

I really hope we move into the 70s soon and we can put all this behind us.

oh gawd!!!!    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Surely, you guys have some great abilities to ongoingly spin somewhat normal (even overall bullish) market dynamics into negativity..

Even though you know that you are getting two marshmallows later, you still ongoingly continue to complain that there is ONLY one marshmallow on the table and it continues to piss you off.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Bitcoin is going up
So fuck you

From where is that table, bPsycho?  I know that tradingview has 1 month charts..

https://www.tradingview.com/chart/?symbol=BITSTAMP:BTCUSD#

is the chart that you posted from another site, or are you getting that chart from trading
view?

Anyone?  Anyone?

Oh no, bitcoin crashed to levels not seen since 2 days ago.

And three weeks ago, and seven months ago.

Again.  oh gawd...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Encouraging words expecialy from a guy like Farmer Bill go a long way.

And i am not ashamed to admit it ! Would you have the mentality to admit it? Wink

C'mon! I think i remember that quite some amounts were moved before black friday in the past years. They didn't even mention how many BTC were transacted, to which addresses, etc.
Maybe it even was an old dog from this forum, who went to somewhere in the world to dig out a long time hidden seedword list he left there once.
I would be scared if multiple "in-only" addresses where BTC were accumulated within the last 4 years would send all of their coins to a single exchange, but roughly 2.200 BTC? That's a tiny fraction of the total of the MtGox case addresses.

It was probably proudhon moving some of his stack.

I've got > 2000 and < 5000.  Last year when I started I remember thinking "I hope one day to have 200".  On then on the way down from $32 I kept scooping them up with my biggest haul coming in at $2.4x after the last $2.00 bounce.  I keep saying to myself, "I've got enough", and I think I've got plenty, but it'd sure be nice to have 10,000...
