According to Google, 1 bitcoin is now worth $1947CAD.

Those rungs up the ladder are getting closer together.
The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Another? Nahhh... It's almost the SAME ATH of the last time. We need to start considering something like $100 from previous ATH to really call it an ATH. Maybe very soon though. Smiley

$1420.00 on GDAX...

A $100 spread between GDAX and BTCE and $300 spread between Finex and China means we're in some type of MtGox scam territory.  These types of enormous spreads have never been seen before post-Gox.  The people who run these exchanges are complete dirtbags that will insider trade against customers because there's no laws stopping them.  It was pathetic that the second Bitfinex shuts off it's withdrawals, it seemed like the people running the exchange believed that was the perfect moment to attempt to do some complete non-aggregate market pump to margin call all their own customers LOL.

I would also be pissed if I had cash sitting on that exchange and they tell me, "Hey wer'e shutting off withdrawals.  Have fun buying coins $100-$300 over market rate just to get your money out of here while we allow our insider trading team to force you to buy at the highest top dollar possible."  Everything about this market is a complete scam right now, and as usual, all revolving around Bitfinex.  The men who can make $60 million disappear into thin air.

17k shorts (all red) to 10k longs (all green). 7k outstanding difference between them.

Burn the shorts with fire!

edit: can people stop quoting roach, please? He had a point, a very long time ago, I don't think it changed at all and really, there's no need to re-read it every other post. Thx!

This time though the ATH actually matters.  Last time it was a pathetic couple of days that the price went over and it was just weird ETF hype.  This time it looks pretty serious since it grew (more) gradually.

What the hell is going on there I wonder?

New money coming in.These people have to buy BTC to get some shitcoins. Others are taking some profits from alts and shift it into BTC.Looks like nobody really wants to leave crypto. When that alt bubble pops, and it will sooner or later, this could be a massive slingshot for BTC.

Found a great post on reddit as well which imo explains the situation pretty good.

Quote
Lots of people are buying btc with fiat in order to buy alts to keep for long term. Most alts in most places can't be bought directly. They have to go through BTC, generating demand for BTC.

After generating 5-10x returns on alts in the last few months, many other alt traders are cashing out to BTC thinking it's more stable than the alts in bubble. They don't want to get out of crypto entirely, but want to reduce risk. This also generates demand for BTC.

Another group of people relaized that there are multiple scaling solutions competing for dominance within the Bitcoin ecosystem. They are taking the chance to get in early before the solution has been clarified. Even though the price is slowly rising, there is a proverbial civil war blood on the streets. This is a buy signal for the smart money.

People are learning about the scaling issues and possible solutions from the media. For example there was a great article in New Scientist this week, mentioning segwit and LN.

Finally, less people want to sell now, no matter at which level they bought in. The profits are too low to cash out, and there is a promise for BTC to go beyond 2K within reasonable time. Once we reach that magic number we will see more sellers, but we will see more media hype too.

Good morning gentlemen, $1360 is nice to see when checking the price today. We're moving in the right direction right now, hopefully it's only a matter of time until we break into the $1400's.

On some exchanges we already have.  It's super weird how GDAX is already into the $1400s - it's really hard to tell where the price actually is, we'd have to consider one exchange at a time.

I think most people (European & US) use BitStamp as a guide to what the actual price is. I've always used Stamp any way.

roach is the new jstolfi ... only fools, idiots and ideologues can remain wrong in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary ... they all have no shame.

I think your doing a bit of injustice to jstolfi, at least he wasn't a raving racist maniac

New section of coin.dance shows explicit support for UASF/BIP148 almost the same as explicit support support for Emergent Consensus amongst merchants/projects, while segwit is double those:
https://coin.dance/poli

Surprising that the UASF support is so high already. Does anyone think this thing will scare or shame Jihan Wu into stopping segwit obstruction? If not, it has to go all the way, and that seems highly dangerous.
