Yeah there better not be a full reindex with 0.15.0 - I really can't be doing with that, I went through that process a few times in earlier releases when I had a power cut in my house.

Just loaded 0.15.0 rc3 on my laptop and no re-indexing was required.

Who am I supposed to believe here If it's the former, I'm going to hold off on downloading the latest version for a good while.

Who am I supposed to believe here If it's the former, I'm going to hold off on downloading the latest version for a good while. I did not have to re-index when upgrading from 0.14.2 to 0.15.0rc2 - but it does do a full rebuild of the UTXO database (format changed) which takes a while. Not nearly as long as a full re-index, though. From the release notes: Upgrade notice
One of the performance optimizations in Bitcoin Core 0.15.0 is an update to the format of the database that tracks spendable bitcoins. The first time you start Bitcoin Core 0.15.0 (or a later version), it will automatically begin this update, which will take from about 5 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the speed of your computer.
Graphical users can monitor the progress of the update on the Bitcoin Core splash screen; bitcoind users can monitor it in the debug.log file in their data directory.
If you later decide to downgrade to an earlier version of Bitcoin Core, please see the instructions in the release notes.

MAST incoming too ( potentially) I don't think it is likely going to happen within this year, but I wouldn't mind being pleasently surprised. MAST as a soft fork is just a no-brainer. Pray tell. What is MAST?

I think not The first time you run version 0.15.0, your chainstate database will be converted to a new format, which will take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the speed of your machine. that was that UXTO or whatever, that went pretty quickly Ops, misread that. Correct, a chainstate update not a reindex. I do not see this full reindex referenced in the notes
Something went wrong on your end. Did you download a RC? I don't see the link for the final build yet. Anyhow, this is not the right place for this. Pray tell. What is MAST?
I think the best way of putting that in layman words (not that you need that) would be "smarter Bitcoin".

So there's still no confirmation that China is going to ban crypto exchanges, right?
It seems like some big media groups just rumored this off and everyone started to follow it. Bitcoin, in my opinion, along with all the alts, would now start its recovery phase towards $5000.
My understanding is that bloomberg, routers and WSJ kinda confirmed it though through other sources... Plus I read rumors about a wallet china is preparing for their crypto. Likely they will make their own crypto and ban everything else... not sure what would be the use though.

From what I have heard ICO's are halted until they become regulated by the state contrary to the FUD china is not banning exchanges or ICO's, just wanting to control and regulate it first nefariously it is a great opportunity to implement state crypto allowing it to grow before trading against ICO's

Arbitraging with China is not easy, but there are some who can. I think China has just been filling the gap.

I know people in China with outside connections that have been actively arbitraging recently. To be fair, China has been quite far below Western prices either way- they'll probably begin to catch up to European and North American prices soon.

Yes.. those linked articles are very helpful. It is quite likely that seg wit is providing more serious discussion points of some concepts that have become more reachable and practical after segwit activation became a "done deal" rather than just a theoretical wish... It's becoming more clear that the various nutjob big blockers, bitcoin deniers (segwit deniers), bitcoin obstructionists (and saboteurs) are fighting an uphill Don Quijote-like battle. hahahahaha.... Not that they are going to stop trying to undermine bitcoin and distract us from the real prize, which remains bitcoin proper rather than the various imitators. Surely, us bitcoin bulls are less than 1%... and it is a bit of a scary situation to see these ongoing developments that remain bullish for bitcoin and likely to continue to cause continuing and ongoing upwards price pressures on bitcoin. Accordingly, I remain grateful to the many smart people in this space who see through the bull and build so many interesting and powerful bitcoin tools, which compete and snowball and complement and in the end, we get a stronger and stronger bitcoin.. little by little.
