Welp, my ledger is stuck. Initiated it, transferred a small amount, wiped it and restored just to make sure that part worked. Aaaand it's stuck. Only displays the setting option and won't let me click on to bitcoin. Opening the wallet app does nothing, resetting it again does nothing. This does not inspire confidence.

On the other hand, my trezor seems to be working just fine.

Good to know.  I have gotten a Ledger recently but have not tested it out.  Restoring from seed always makes me sweat.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Figured it out. If you reset it you wipe the entire device, not just any crypto. Had to install a ledger manager extension in chrome, then use that to install the bitcoin managing software. That done, it worked again, the the coins were there.

Dumb fucking way to do it imo. Maybe I'll stick half my cold stash in an offline laptop wallet after all until I trust these things a little more.

Wipe that fear away by doing it ten times in a row when it's empty. Make sure you get the same address each time.

And check it here too as long as it's far offline - https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

You cannae fail.

You received your bitcoin profits practically for free like most people here so it's not even a big deal if you lost it all.  Imagine people working their whole lives to buy this garbage and use it to try and store their life savings and try to secure it.  Just about nobody in the general population has the OPSEC to do this.  Just about everyone in the general population would be using a bitcoin bank because it's too hard to secure plus they have to leave the bitcoin in a chain of custody for their wills to pass on to their children or whatever.  The only actual plausible way people are going to "be their own banker" is with physical gold and silver.

Why am I getting ads with retarded looking, giant hook-nosed Jews telling me to buy bitcoin AT THE TOP?

Maybe because "jews" is the most searched term in your internet history.

zing!

I chortled again.

In related news, I get an insufferable ad for Altucher just about every time I follow a link to YouTube.

You are one of the lucky ones to have an existing bitfinex account. New registrations are now only allowed with a referral code, and it's impossible to get a referral code yet.

People without a bitfinex account will have to dump their BTG on a dodgier exchange like yobit.

Why is this? Any idea? Someone else said it was because of the Ddos thing but that seems rather extreme.

This explanation citing "due to extraordinary demand" appears when you try to register. They say registrations will start again by by January 15th, 2018 at the latest.

Quote
Thank you for your interest in opening a Bitfinex account. However, due to extraordinary demand, new account creation has been temporarily paused.

Bitfinex focuses on serving professional traders. The reason we have decided to temporarily stop accepting new accounts is that we cannot undermine the quality of our services for our existing traders by flooding the system with new, small accounts.

Please be patient while we expand infrastructure, services, and staff to meet the exponential rise in demand for new Bitfinex accounts.

This pause for new account creation is a temporary measure. New account registration will resume by January 15th, 2018 at the latest.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,
Bitfinex Management

Perhaps Utility trumps hubris?

Whatever your thoughts are... spam , attacks from Bitcoin Cash on core etc. Core brought this about on them selves. Let the market decide. The mere fact that core is vulnerable to these type of attacks tells you something!

One thing pointed out yesterday was the market for gold is 6-9 trillion . The market for cash is over 100 trillion.

You are still spouting out a lot of fuzzy logic in your attempts to make equivalencies between bcash and bitcoin... leads to bad conclusions, too.

Your true colors are showing, if you are attributing anything regarding my own book to your non-relenting attempts to spread nonsense and your failure and refusal to recognize various attacks that are going on that are likely coupled with pumps and likely later dumps and also some normal market corrections.

So keep spouting off nonsense and failing/refusing to engage in meaningful substance is likely to continue your label as either a troll, a corporate shill or just some kind of ill informed butt buddy big blocker.

Well, I am lost.   I thought that my perspective was fairly worldly, but I have no clue about what is an r.  Go figure?

I think they're talking about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R/K_selection_theory.

Very small correction to what was likely the shortest JJG post ever.

I may receive mine someday, if my BTC payment ever gets confirmed.  What's the required sat/B these days anyway?

Perhaps you will thank me later for this suggestion?

Just take those old Wehrmacht lugers off the shelf, JayJuanGee will start a holocaust all by himself.  He wants to reminisce about the days of old, just like that old Waffen-SS death toll.

If you cite something out of context, then you can say whatever the fuck you like.

Did you even understand the context of my post?  I am referring to bitcoin as being the main value, so don't get caught up with various alts, or various claimed crypto competitors.  Yeah, you, roach, have a similar problem in that you have been caught up with various pms, and there has even been an expression that has been developed because your lack of foresight in selling too many of your coins and then seeming to devolve into resentment and bitterness..   So, yeah, none of us should want to get "roached," which means that we should not be selling our bitcoins too early or in too high a quantity, we should not be betting against bitcoin in the long term and we should not get distracted by other lesser investments such as PMs in your case and alt cryptos in the case of many other guys.. who might be tempted to remove their eyes from the prize (aka.. bitcoin).

Really? What version were you on? I aborted the update. I don't know if Bglod is high enough yet to mess with a good thing.

A few days ago I swept a paper wallet onto Trezor. There was a moment when all I could get it to do was some gibberish about magic characters. I properly shit myself for about five minutes before it worked. I think the lead was a bit faulty.

I had previously used the beta version to claim btg, now on the latest 1.6 I believe.  All smooth, no worries.

Having to trust these magic devices gives me the freakin heebie jeebies. Wish I could see how all the cranks and levers inside them work and confirm for myself that they are as safe as advertised.
