Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

what will happen if gox runs out of btc's?
will it just continue to rise on other exchanges in even higher tempo ("get the last ones")
or will the whole thing just collapse on other exchanges too?

just wondering, if btcs are becoming so sparse, how the heck can a viable economy be established around our favorite virtual currency?

and the last thing: if gox takes our money and bitcoins (24h btc delay issue my **); it will just disappear with all our btc and money. The disappointment with bigger investors might be so great the whole thing also just collapses, no?

When prices rise it becomes more attractive to sell bitcoins for fiat and rising prices will thus attract more sellers. It is the magic of the price system.

5,000 BTC left until we reach $200 (and lots of publicity)
10,000 BTC left until we reach $225
15,000 BTC left until we reach $266 (all time high, loads more publicity)
20,000 BTC left until we reach $500

and then only:

21,000 BTC left until we reach $1,000
21,400 BTC left until we reach $1,660

I know it's not quite that simple and this is just one exchange (which is maybe in its death throes).....

But...WOW! Interesting times, hold onto your hats!

(EDIT: Feel free to subtract over 1,000 BTC from all of those numbers following a >1k buy into 180 whilst I was typing)
