there so much FUD right now, and alot of poeple come here to understand what is happening, so i feel compelled to point this out:

Amazing, a double spend was detected and stopped. I jizzed my pants  Shocked

as you can clearly see the bitcoin network is working just fine, despite what some would have you believe

the problem lies in the custom built wallet software exchanges implemented.

attacker(s) are, unsuccessfully, trying to fool these exchange into thinking tx are not occurring when they really are

bitcoin dev are working to resolve this problem by working with exchanges, miners, and also thinking about possible protocol updates to completely remove all possibility of future attacks.

now look back and see who has been spreading FUD, and click ignore.

I wonder WHO/WHERE  the attack is coming from ?

JP Morgan
MtGox
Putin
China
Fonzie's mum
NSA
Some 14 year old in Rio
Mini Putin (you know he has got one)
A bunch of c.......

Reality is attacking the current market price with furious anger.
The price should have gone down around the end of December/start of January, as it got clear that by closing the Chinese exchanges, there will be a big drop in demand.
It should of gone down and then have a nice recovery with opening new exchanges at new locations. But because the market was stupid, it went into denial and tried to push the price up with force of desperation. Now this force is ending and there isn't enough of it to drive the price up. But with bitcoin, if the price won't be going up, it will mostly go down to the level of previous bubble height (right now 200$) and stay there for some time until recovery.
This is the trend of bitcoin. Now the cycle will only take more time, because the market tried to break the trend by trying to keep the price up.
200$ BTC is not a disaster or nothing to be afraid of. It's normal for bitcoin. Just let it happen already and we can continue this natural form of development.
Keeping the price up in this artificial manner is the reason for all this confusion and FUD. People can sense it that the price isn't normal and therefor there will be more doubt on everything.

Adam I hope you are right, but your example doesn't prove anything. Paying with credit cards was still working at Target month ago altough attackers were stealing them at the same time.

lol at this..
I have alot of faith withdrawals at stamp and btc-e will be resumed. Looking at the prices and compare then with gox, im not the only one.
This will be over within a week, and looking at all the bad news and fud prices are still more or less stable.

It makes me laugh to think some of you actually think bitcoin is important enough to be attacked by the gov or the banks or the NSA. Please. Bitcoin is still a pimple on the butt of the world.

This "attack" is just some stupid hacker getting his rocks off. Hackers hack coders code and bit makers make bots. This will only make bitcoin stronger.

I agree, as much as these problems appear to set back the development of Bitcoin, in fact they are required and helpful to inspire confidence and ensure firm foundations.
Nobody should forget Bitcoin is in Beta, there is risk and there is reward.
In my view this isn't nearly as serious as the blockchain fork last year, a week or so and it will be another chapter in the history of the rise of Bitcoin.

Great post Adam.  I strongly urge all noobs, lurkers and others that just come here for information to take five minutes to scroll back through the last few pages and click ignore on anyone that says any different to the above.  It'll save you a lot of bother in future. Cool

errr ?  : ) I am tempted to answer a random question here...  but anyway..

ok what ever you say : )   not sure why you directed that at me, nothing to do with my post, and you are preaching to the converted....I am not afraid in the slightest.....I have stated my opinion regularly on this thread.. I come on here mainly for fun, and for some newses.. but I am a long term hodler and dip buyer...  I am not confused... and I have teflon skin when it comes to FUD, and I am not a very jumpy person.

my general attitude remains

Clearly, this DDOS attack is undeniable proof that anything on the Internet can be brought to a halt by DDOS.

Therefore, the Internet is doomed and will never develop into anything useful.
