long/short ratio isn't enough to know what's going on at finex (cue the trolls), you need to know where they are bought in, the frr rate, lending amts, other big alts details

similarly you can't just trade there without knowing what's happening over at mex (cue the trolls)
this is a great video to get an idea of that

Facebook coin is probably a good thing for bitcoin, it’ll make average joe more aware of cryptocurrency in general & possibly give him the shove he needs to pile into bitcoin.

I certainly don’t see Facebook coin as a bad thing for us.

I definitely agree with this, the awareness it will create will bring more adoption in the crypto space, this will help the current status of the crypto space.

I'm alright with this.

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/uk-world/917090/everything-you-need-to-know-about-facebooks-cryptocurrency/
Dundee Courier spreads the news

it's all over my news feed thinger - never seen one story dominate like this

this is good news for Bitcoin.

What is it with MSM? They never get things right.
Joe public will read this

Cryptocurrencies are entirely digital forms of money which use encryption to carry out transactions securely and in many cases anonymously between two parties, which many argue make it more secure against fraud.

A key benefit of cryptocurrency is also that they are decentralised, meaning that no one entity controls the currency in contrast to how a central bank controls traditional currency.

From the courier link above and think that Libra has these properties when in fact it doesn't.
Just more confusion for average Joe.

It's hard when most of the time the journalists are lazy and don't research/know themselves. A sad side effect of the world we live in today

I never said I was against it or him; I'm calling out the irony/hypocrisy of everyone complaining about him, all while perpetuating his existence. If anything, find it humorous and entertaining, just like your misinterpretation of my post.

if anything it makes me think about why I disagree with him, further cementing my own beliefs.

Sorry for misinterpreting your disagreement with him with being against him. How could I ever make such an atrocious error?  Roll Eyes

You made the error due to not understanding the distinct difference between disagreeing with someone and calling for the censorship of said person. Let me know when you do, and we can continue this conversation.

Of course someone is scared this Libra thing could actually work after all:

France Calls for Central Bank Review of Facebook Cryptocurrency

Quote
Facebook Inc.’s ambitious plan to roll out its own cryptocurrency ran into immediate political opposition in Europe, with calls for tighter regulation of the social-media giant.
French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said the digital currency known as Libra shouldn’t be seen as a replacement for traditional currencies.
“It is out of question’’ that Libra “become a sovereign currency,’’ LeMaire said in an interview on Europe 1 radio. “It can’t and it must not happen.”

I would classify this as Anger Stage in the Kübler-Ross model

I believe Libra will be a threaten to banks, not to bitcoin.

I see many people saying it would destroy XRP... this is a non-sense to me.

Libra may force banks to modernize, as Libra will be more open than banks (more border-less), but will also follow their rules (centralized, legislation rules, reliable, etc)..
How will banks modernize? XRP may be the answer for them. XRP always tried to get blockchain technology into the banking system.

They aren't wrong though. It can not become a sovereign currency as it is centralized garbage by a company. They can call it permissioned all they want, it's worthless. The Libra garbage absolutely does not need blockchain in any way, but there will be many gullible kool-aid drinkers falling for this scam.

Enforced KYC and insured against hacks.

Thats the Libra website if someone is wondering.

What do I need to get started?

When Calibra is available, you will need a government-issued ID to sign up for an account. Identity verification is important to comply with laws and prevent fraud, so you know people are who they say they are.

Is Calibra available in my country? What countries is Calibra available in?

Our goal is to make Calibra available to everyone, anywhere in the world. We are working to bring Calibra to as many countries as possible, as soon as we can.

LOL. This shitcoin is DOA.

Bankers know their time is up soon.

This is one of their last tries to grab as much money as possible.

I wouldn't be so sure.
We are all Bitcoiners, but we don't need to be BTC zealots.
There are a lot of use case where I can give up a little of privacy for convenience (small payments, sending pocket money to friends), or where actually KYC is welcome (paying hotels with Bitcoin certainly involves my ID being photocopied, while if I pay with a KYC'd card all those process is made in advance by CC processors, which I trust more in taking care of my privacy than a random Hotel Desk in some exotic part of the world.

Of course BTC is a far superior solution where it really matters for a hard currency, but according to Gresham Law, everyday money doesn't need to be good.

Thoughts on Libra “Blockchain”

Quote
I’m pretty sure that would be a world first of a distributed network transitioning from permissioned to permissionless. Perhaps the network as a whole can switch to PoS, but in order for the stablecoin peg / basket to be maintained, some set of entities must keep a bridge open to the traditional financial system. This will be a persistent point of centralized control via the Libra Association.
