Love him or hate him, Jbear is a very interesting individual. He and I had several long discussions on music and vintage musical gear. He owns some gear used by Joe Walsh, Elton John, Rick Derringer, Billy Joel. and Michael Jackson.

I won't go into details because he told me this privately.

I am not sure if there would be anyone that we would all totally respect.. but let's say hypothetically, there was such a person (like Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein), and that person has all the attributes of an angel.. including smart, witty and knows about bitcoin etc... maybe we would have to proclaim satoshi as such a person.. but whatever..

So yeah we can "like the shit out of" such a popular person, but if such popular person came in this thread and was 1) naysaying bitcoin, 2) pumping shitcoins and 3) propagating ideas about BIG blocks, then that person deserves ridicule, even if s/he/it were to otherwise be the greatest thing since sliced bread.  No?

Mindrust's situation was not selling too much too soon in terms  "on the way up" but instead selling during a pretty decently sized crash and having relatively high conviction that the crash was going lower..

He allowed Masterluc to fuck him over with one of his retarded calls.

Serious rook move.

Well fair enough... a kind of acceptance of authority, or at least buying into a theory that Mindrust had actually became convinced to be a reasonable and plausible theory.

One of the ironies that many of us have remain our abilities to attempt to tailor our own strategies in a way that we both perceive to be reasonable and sometimes that we sometimes conclude that we have found a more enlightened direction than others... and so sure, there are a lot of dumb people and dumb ideas, so sometimes when we believe that we see the right direction, we will sometimes bet on that view and bet on the idea that we are right and everyone else is wrong... So, in that regard, even going by Mindrust's contemporary statements, he acknowledged that he was panicking and even that he had made a mistake by allowing the severity and the quickness of that March 12, 2020 crash to get to him to sell.. but then once he did it, he concluded that he had done the better thing and it was worthy of gambling on the further cascading of the BTC price down.

And, if you recall, he did not even sell at the exact bottom.  He sold something around $4,500, so that several days later when the BTC had bounced and then returned to below, his $4,500-ish sales price, he told us that he was waiting for the whole matter to play out... including something like sub $2k prices, and many of us said that he should not be greedy and he should just buy back in.  I personally was not as pushy about him buying back in as some other members, even though ultimately the better decision would have been to buy back, and some people were suggesting that he just buy back a portion.. like half or even just a quarter of his BTC so that he was not left a no coiner.. but again.. he refused.. so after thinking about how he had gotten emotional he also kind of doubled down on his own sticking to his decision.. which really caused  some people to consider that he was not even being genuine.. because no one would really act that irrational in terms of protecting themselves.. and it seems that Mindrust did really believe that his might have been able to garner enough luck out of the whole situation in order to turn his mistake into a way to actually profit... rather than just sucking it up or even breaking even or mitigating losses as several guys were kind of going red in the face (at least through their keyboards) to attempt to emphasize to mindrust about making sure that he bought some back.. because the bottom was in..  .. and one of my personal problems with the whole thing was that I was not even confident that the bottom was in even though I did consider that it would be a good idea for mindrust to buy some back because we had seen something like a 30% bounce off of the bottom and then within a few days the BTC price had gotten pretty damned close, if not even a little bit below his sell price, but of course, I did not feel any kind of confidence that the bottom was yet in, even though I had a decent inclination to at least buy some of the BTC back (like 20% or more).

Dear diary,

today two coiners revealed themselves among my friends/ex co-workers. The friend was my former boss, the co-worker his secretary.
The boss proudly told me, he's in "crypto" now, a fantastic thing. He was showing me his trading app and portfolio (what a noob, held only shitcoins), and said his secretary is his crypto-consultant. The secretaries base currency was ETH, he is into Defi as well. I wondered why the fuck he didn't invest in NFT already, but trying to sell a shitcoin that goes to zero is about as non fungible as a JPG of a rock, i heard myself thinking.
I said: Bitcoin? They said: Nah, man. No big gains here anymore. We sell a coin when it's over 150% profit and look for the next (shitcoin) to invest in.
So i asked about the taxes, and they said: Nobody cares. I wish they would know what they think "centralized" and KYC in terms of exchanges really means, but they seemed so obsessed about their "crypto gains", i didn't want to interfere in that moment.

The portfolio of the boss was down about 50% from its recent top. I didn't see or hear anything detailed about the secretary's portfolio, neither do i know how long he already was in "crypto" before.

So it's this time of the year again. I'm beginning to doubt my beliefs about S-curve adoption and should start thinking about liquidation target prices for a part of my stash. The next bear market is coming, and a big retail FOMO move to this cycle's top should lead it. It felt like 2017 all over again, but this time i will take some dollars to buy the 2023 bottom again.

-------

True story. Omitted many details in favor of OpSec.

Oof. Well, can't say I didn't burn my fingers too, at the beginning. Too bad this might discourage him buying Bitcoin....

.......

As was noted previously Jbear is a expert on the subject, I miss him.

Speaking of missing past regular posters in the Wob...
Where are they now?
My unofficial partial list of wo bro legends who have gone bye bye (for at least a few months anyway, to my knowledge)...

JBreher...  eloquent and JJG didn't like him. And that's an understatement. Me? I just loved that bear at the picnic table waiting for a treat.
Gentlemand... my favorite wo bro, and I really miss his hilarious comments.
Hairy Mclairy ... I think he just got tired of this place.
V8....  Kept me abreast of the latest and greatest memes.
Ibian....  Maybe he had a boating accident, but whatever, I don't miss him, though I will confess to reading all his posts.  Occasionally I'd flame him, because why not?
Roach....Fuck him. The thread moved up a notch in respectability when that asshole left. Good riddance

One of the weird things about being a regular here and participating in this never ending thread anonymously over the years
is that one is never sure what happens to regular posters when they suddenly go AWOL.
Occasionally one finds out that someone passed on the forum, but to my knowledge I haven't heard of any past wo bro regulars
actually going to the great bitcoin playground in the sky. (maybe others have, idk, I'm not in that loop)
I certainly hope that they rather they just got tired of the silliness and had better things to do irl after becoming rich.
Something that hasn't happened with me yet.... (I never tire of the silliness, I create it....)

GO BITCOIN

I think (hope) some of them will come back... WO needs the OGs back. NOT ROACH. Who shills for silver on a bitcoin forum? Seriously...

So, it's not different this time... such a pity... anyways we can always try to sell at the top and buy back during the 2022-2023 bottom which is also a good thing. Just a reminder: don't sell all (or substantial part of your stash) and/or become a nocoiner/lowcoiner. In other words: don't mindrust it!   Cool

To pull a canonical mindrust you need to sell the bottom. Selling near the top doesn't really count.

... there is actually another rung below a mindrust.

... first you do a mindrust panic-sell all your btc into a manufactured FUD major dippenning

... then when you realise you're getting left behind you put whatever remains from your rekt stash into shitcoins in desperate attempt to make back the losses

... it's equivalent of degenerate gambler who has $20 left at end of horrible night at casino and throws it all on a 00-green square in the roulette wheel on the way out the door

Bitcoin is unstoppable!

Bitcoin Core 22.0 has just been released.

https://twitter.com/bitcoincoreorg/status/1437536856288251906?s=21

Quite like the work being done on the privacy end:
https://bitcoincore.org/en/releases/22.0/

- Added support for running Bitcoin Core as an I2P (Invisible Internet Project) service and connect to such services.
- This release removes support for Tor version 2 hidden services in favor of Tor v3 only, ...

Edit: - External signers such as hardware wallets can now be used.

Hello friends! I haven't written for a month because a series of unfortunate accidents which happened to my father during our vacation. His life was in a great danger and it is not over yet. I experienced a big shock and I still haven't completely come out of it. May God save us! I have the support of my faithful friends who have helped us tremendously and continue to do so. Regarding Bitcoin, I am not as happy as before, of course. But when I have a chance, I continue to buy. I will perhaps write more in a few weeks. Stay strong and hodl as long as possible!

Sorry to hear that man... COVID-19-related? I hope all goes well for your dad.

Yup. He could have carried all of that in a Trezor, possibly inserted into his anus to avoid detection (#nohomo). Even better, 12 seed words in his brain (but he probably doesn't have one).

Well wishes to the health of your father, you and your family.

Regarding bitcoin price performance of the past month, we have had ONLY a 19%, so far, correction down from nearly $53k down to $42,900, and thereafter a consolidation largely ONLY returning back up to about $47,420 (nearly 5 days ago) - which is about in the 10% correction range.

I doubt that there is anything to worry about or to be disappointed about in terms of already having had a bounce of about 85% positive from our June 21 bottom (of $28,600) and our July 20 retesting of that bottom (of $29,296) that pretty much went straight up to $53k with only one correction in early August from $42,800 to $37,350 (nearly 13%) of greater than 8% along the way.

I suppose that we are always going to have some concerns in the midst of these kind of corrections along the way.. when we finally do get them, but zoomed out BTC's price performance still seems to be pretty much "on schedule" with seemingly ongoing UPpity price pressures... which seems like pretty damned great signs to be continuing to prepare for more UPpity.. even if we know that none of these kinds of uppity are guaranteed, anyhow.. even though the uppities continue to happen and to happen and to happen.

I surely am not complaining about our level of Uppity being insufficient.. It's great...

For having a situation that is far from guaranteed including how much negative press is still out there on a regular and consistent basis, I hardly can imagine scenarios to provide decent amounts of assurances to those of us continued to be prepared for UP.. that bitcoin is still "on schedule" for some likely more UP for 4-12 months longer.. how much longer?  not sure.. but seems on schedule to me..

...and I am surely one of those kinds of folks who hates to take anything for granted, and even while over the years I have been somewhat insistent with some of my no coiner friends that they need to prepare for UP..
they don't see it,
they cannot see it
they don't want to see it
and they still look at me as if I am some kind of bag pumper who depends on their getting into bitcoin.

I tell them that on a personal level I give no shits about my own profits because I already am quite well-off with my bitcoin and I am going to likely be well off whether they get in or not and I am likely going to continue to be better off (excessively well off) whether they get in or not and I am just trying to help them out..

and they still do not budge...

I am continually amazed - even though I should not be..

one no coiner (previous coiner) mentioned that when bitcoin goes to $1 million, then I would be able to blah blah blah.. rich stuff.. and I had to interrupt in the middle and say that I do not need bitcoin to go to $1million to blah blah blah.. because I can already blah blah blah.. and the mere fact that he can see bitcoin going to $1million justifies that he should be in bitcoin..even if it might not tell him how much to be in, but he should be getting off zero.. .. but no.. he does not budge.. and he wants to talk theoretical about these matters..   He's not dumb, but he is dumb because even with his level of knowledge and the fact that he already has been in (so he has systems) he cannot figure out how to get off of zero....

Seems  like the insiders, such as us, are still the ones largely buying these coins.. and sure there has got to be some smart peeps out there somewhere who are also providing the additional buying pressure and coming into bitcoin in trickling kinds of ways, but normies in my circles still have no clues.. even though I have been largely repeating my lil selfie for 7 years with pretty much the same story a decent number of them.. and whatever I am saying ONLY rarely sinks in..

and gosh one recent convert kept repeating to me that she is ONLY buying BTC in the past 6 months or so because I kept telling her over and over and over (probably with her I have ONLY been saying about bitcoin since about 2016 - so perhaps only 5 years-ish).. but gosh she seems like a potential weak-hand because with every single person I try to tell them that they need to attempt to understand what the hell they are investing into and to have an investment thesis.. the fact that "I kept telling her" is hardly any kind of investment thesis (but it should be a reason for her to look into the bitcoin matter further.. but still her investment thesis is still pretty damned blind.. beyond my saying a lot of things that hardly seem to sink in beyond her getting the message that I told her to do it).

Yes... Normies are busy.. normies are busy..

Normies have no time to look into nuttin.. but if they want to buy a new car or go on a vacation, they have time to make those kinds of comparisons and contrasts of kinds of cars or vacation locations, and if they heard about this great new recipe, they are willing to spend 3-4 hours researching into variations of how to prepare it and what are its origins and even various side dishes that go well with it (whether it would be better served with white  or red wine or if their dessert should be ice cream, cake, pie or some kind of fruit platter), so gosh money (sound money versus not sound money) is too damned abstract for a lot of normie peeps to understand - even very well-educated normie peeps..

But bitcoin price is likely going to continue to go up whether it starts to sink in for some of these normie peeps or not. I don't know exactly who's buying BTC besides Michael Saylor and a few of us ongoing BTC supporters.. but the trickle in of the newbies seems to not always be very measurable amongst normie peeps in my own paths.. even if some of us might know smart peeps and also peeps who really should be more receptive to sound money principles, but none of it sinks in.. and if the government does not endorse it, then how could it be a good or persistent thing beyond the circles of 14-year old snot noses?  That's not going to end well, right?
