i think bobcs bblocker has 24 hr timeout so it cant cover today.

so..
So, that's what we do now, substitute for bots (who are supposed to block other bots), when they are in hibernation mode or otherwise unable to do their work?
I for one am fine with this modus vivendi and would like it to be publicly known that I welcome our new robot AI overlords..

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-08-05 (Evening Edition)

Published: 2026-08-05 09:02 PM CT

Bitcoin is grinding sideways, up 0.39% over 24 hours, but the real story is the Coldcard entropy flaw that has shaken confidence in hardware wallets and lit up the mempool. Fear & Greed sits at Extreme Fear (25), flat for the week, and price is above the 30-day average of $64,138, yet the mood is anything but bullish. Wednesday's session feels like a pause, not a recovery, as traders weigh the security scare against gold's 2.8% surge and a record S&P 500.

Outlook: Watch whether the Coldcard fallout pushes more users toward multisig setups or independent entropy generation, a shift that could reshape hardware wallet demand. Also keep an eye on US spot Bitcoin ETF inflows and the Coinbase Premium, which has been negative for nearly 80 days; a sustained turn positive could signal the durable rebound CryptoQuant says is needed. No price calls here, just the data points that will tell us if this rangebound grind breaks higher or lower.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Bitcoin is at $64,541.00, up 0.39% over 24 hours and down 0.4% over seven days. The derived Momentum-Sentiment Composite reads -1 on a -50 to +50 scale. Sellers remain in control while the market holds above support at $63,500, but the grip is loosening. The Fear & Greed reading of 25 signals extreme fear, yet price has stabilized near the middle of the recent range rather than breaking down. Daily declines have narrowed over the past week, which may suggest reduced selling pressure rather than fresh accumulation. A close below $63,500 would likely open the path toward $62,500, while reclaiming $65,500 would shift control back to buyers. Until one of those levels gives way, the tape reads as a standoff with a slight bearish tilt.

SCENARIOS

- Consolidation Above $63,500 (49%): triggers: Bitcoin holds $63,500 on daily closes through Friday, while the Fear & Greed index stays below 40. Invalidation: A daily close below $63,500 within five trading days.
- Upside Reclaim of $65,500 (39%): triggers: Bitcoin reclaims $65,500 on a daily close within five trading days, with the Fear & Greed index rising above 30. Invalidation: A daily close back below $65,500 after an initial reclaim, or a drop below $63,500 before reaching the resistance.
- Downside Re-test of $62,500 (12%): triggers: Bitcoin loses $63,500 on a daily close within five trading days, with the Fear & Greed index falling to 20 or lower. Invalidation: A daily close back above $63,500 within the same five trading days.

KEY MARKET MOVERS

- Coldcard Entropy Flaw: The disclosed bug, which allowed attackers to steal over 1,596 BTC, is driving network activity to multi-month highs and may push users toward multisig or independent entropy generation, a structural shift for hardware wallets.
- Macro Crosscurrents: Gold's 2.8% jump to $4,213 and a record S&P 500 highlight a risk-on mood in traditional assets, while Bitcoin's flat price suggests crypto is not participating, possibly due to the Clarity Act and 10-year real yield concerns.

TOP STORIES

1. Does the Coldcard Attack Mean All Hardware Wallets Are Now Insecure
URL: https://cointelegraph.com/magazine/does-the-coldcard-attack-mean-all-hardware-wallets-are-now-insecure
Published: 2026-08-05
Summary: A flaw in Coldcard's entropy generation, disclosed on July 31, allowed attackers to steal more than 1,596 bitcoin worth at least $100 million through coordinated attacks. The bug may have originated from a 2021 firmware change that disabled the hardware random number generator, causing a fallback to a weaker pseudo-random generator. Coinkite has released firmware fixes and advised affected users to migrate funds, but the incident has shaken confidence in hardware wallets. Manufacturers like Ledger, Trezor, and Foundation emphasize different approaches to entropy generation, with Ledger relying on certified secure elements and Trezor and Foundation using multiple entropy sources. Experts argue that the incident is a wake-up call for the industry, recommending multisig setups and independently generated entropy to mitigate single points of failure.

2. Bitcoin Treads Water As Gold, S&P 500 See Significant Gains
URL: https://cointelegraph.com/markets/gold-hits-six-week-highs-on-china-demand
Published: 2026-08-05
Summary: Bitcoin stayed near $64,000 on Wednesday's Wall Street open, showing little momentum while gold and US stocks advanced. Gold gained 2.8% to $4,213 per ounce, its highest level since June 22, driven by Chinese demand and 14 consecutive days of inflows into domestic gold-backed ETFs. The S&P 500 touched a record high above 7,793 before pulling back, with 66% of its stocks above their 50-day moving average. Trader Rekt Capital warned that weaker rallies from the $64,000 support could lead to lower highs and a breakdown into the $58,000-$66,000 range. CryptoQuant said a durable BTC rebound requires sustained US spot Bitcoin ETF inflows, cooler US bond yields, no expected Fed rate hikes, and the Coinbase Premium returning to positive territory, a metric that has been negative for nearly 80 days.

3. The $120 million Coldcard hack lights up Bitcoin's memory pool
URL: https://www.coindesk.com/daybook-us/2026/08/05/the-usd120-million-coldcard-hack-lights-up-bitcoin-s-memory-pool
Published: 2026-08-05
Summary: The ongoing Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which began July 30, has driven Bitcoin network activity to multi-month highs. The mempool transaction count reached 89,031 on Tuesday, the highest since February 2025, according to Blockchain.com. Active addresses hit a three-month high of 712,000, and whale transactions climbed to a five-month high of 61,800, per Santiment. Bitcoin price remains rangebound between $62,000 and $65,000, with analysts citing the Clarity Act as the immediate catalyst and 10-year real yields as a macro risk. Bitfinex warned that the bullish case could collapse if the 10-year real yield tops 2.5%, currently at 2.41%.

^ all this "analyst" pontification is worth something close to zero:

Basically, 2.41% 10 year yield was bearish for bitcoin, but somehow caused a surge in gold.
This is f-g hilarious.

Bobc is not at fault...it's just repeating/summarizing the drivel from the low value analysts.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

Cool vid from the dude that never blinks. Smiley

I was thinking to really see "the dude"
Let me explain something to you. Um, you are not "the dude that never blinks", he is "the dude that never blinks".  You're the Dude, so that's what we call you.  You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if we're not into the whole brevity thing.

Thanks for that clarification Homer dude, since sometimes it can be difficult to keep track of which dude is which, like the last lines of Animal Farm.  Do I need to paraphrase it?

O.k. fine.  It goes something like this:

"As the animals peered through the windows they looked from dude to non-dude and from non-dude to dude and again back from dude to non-dude, and by then, it was becoming nearly impossible to say which was which."

Interesting but I would imagine it's a simple tweak to the hacker's code to ignore the honeypot dust.  It seems to me this entire exploit can be run offline with a local node to check balances but I'm probably missing something in the detail though.  Maybe a larger effort to get people to update their lukewarmcards and migrate their funds would be more appropriate.  It's ironic that Coinkite gimped themselves with the strict data privacy policy of deleting all customer physical records after 90 to 120 days to prevent physical security risks or they would be able to warn those customers of this hack more directly and in a timely manner.  This also makes me wonder (and I make no accusations) if this isn't a deliberate inside job with some long-term planning.

I think that more and more folks are starting to question the inside job thesis based on the sheer level of the incompetency with something so basic to the raison d'être of a signing device.    Real smart people seem to get madder and madder, even when they re trying to act somewhat objective and giving benefits of the doubt, the level the incompetency tends to support willfulness rather than mere negligence..

i think bobcs bblocker has 24 hr timeout so it cant cover today.
so..
