So the signaling block has come and gone. What we're hearing now is talk of a proof of work change. And I'm assuming an air drop to a new coin.
Since the plan is to change proof of work, regular Bitcoin will just hum along as it always has most likely.
Interesting.

was there supposed to be a hashrate split? btc hashrate seems the same? No... Still rumors, but if the Bip110 folks feel this was not signaled for by the majority of miners they will announce that Bitcoin is a "corporate coin" and fork to a different POW. So existing miners will not be able to mine this new altcoin if that is the case. It was painfully obvious they would not gain consensus amongst the mining community, and it has failed as expected. Now we wait to see what Luke, Mechanic "Dathon Ohm"(?) and the folks want to do about possibly forking off. But evidently they believe it's to the "game theory" now... Steady Lads. Bitcoin is for enemies. Slay your heroes. Not your dice not your ice.

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-08-08 (Evening Edition)
Published: 2026-08-08 09:03 PM CT
Saturday's board is flat, with Bitcoin holding a 0.10% dip over 24 hours while the Fear & Greed Index sits at 31, still in Fear but up three points on the week. The real story isn't the tape, it's the infrastructure: a Lightning exploit drained funds from BTCPay Server nodes, and that security scare hasn't stopped institutional money from piling in, with spot ETFs posting their best weekly inflows since April. Price is above the 30-day average, and the 7-day trend is up 2.1%, so this looks like a grind higher on thin weekend liquidity, not a breakdown.
Outlook: Watch whether the BTCPay/LND vulnerability triggers broader node operator caution or a coordinated update push, and whether ETF inflows keep their pace into next week. The BIP-110 signaling split at block 961632 is a live risk, but with only 2.53% miner support, it's likely to fizzle unless something changes. Keep an eye on whether the Fear & Greed index can break out of the 30s, which would signal a sentiment shift.
MARKET ANALYSIS
Bitcoin is at $64,821.00, down 0.10% over 24 hours and up 2.1% over seven days. The derived Momentum-Sentiment Composite reads +7 on a -50 to +50 scale. Buyers are defending the $63,500 support zone, and the market has held that line through a week of choppy trading. The Fear & Greed reading of 31 tells us sentiment is weak, but the price action suggests sellers lack the conviction to push through that floor. A daily close below $63,500 would shift control to sellers and open the path toward the $62,500 downside target. Conversely, a sustained push above $66,000 would signal that the recent consolidation is resolving to the upside. The narrow 24-hour move and the +7 composite reading point to a market waiting for a catalyst rather than one in active distribution.
SCENARIOS
- Consolidation Above $63,500 (47%): triggers: Bitcoin holds daily closes above $63,500 through Friday while the Fear & Greed index stays below 40. Invalidation: A daily close below $63,500 within five trading days. - Upside Breakout Toward $67,000 (40%): triggers: Bitcoin reclaims $66,000 on a daily close within five trading days, with the Fear & Greed index rising above 45. Invalidation: A daily close back below $66,000 within five trading days before reaching $67,000. - Downside Re-test of $62,500 (13%): triggers: Bitcoin loses $63,500 on a daily close within five trading days, with the Fear & Greed index falling to 25 or lower. Invalidation: A daily close back above $63,500 within five trading days.
KEY MARKET MOVERS
- Lightning infrastructure risk: The BTCPay Server exploit exposed LND credential files, and while the full impact is unknown, it's a reminder that custody and node security remain fragile points.
TOP STORIES
1. Another Bitcoin infrastructure exploit hits, this time draining Lightning payment servers URL: https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/08/08/another-bitcoin-infrastructure-exploit-hits-this-time-draining-merchant-lightning-nodes Published: 2026-08-08 Summary: Attackers drained funds from Bitcoin Lightning nodes running behind BTCPay Server after exploiting a critical vulnerability that exposed LND credential files. BTCPay told users running LND to update to version 2.4.2 immediately or take servers offline, though it has not disclosed how many users were hit or how much bitcoin was taken. The flaw allowed unauthenticated remote attackers to obtain ".macaroon" files, which grant permission to interact with an LND node, enabling them to take control and move funds. Hardware-wallet maker Foundation and bitcoin publication Citadel21 both reported their Lightning nodes were swept, though Foundation's on-chain hot wallet was untouched. The vulnerability was disclosed by members of the Bitcoin Red Team, and BTCPay has not yet published technical details, with a full postmortem expected in the coming days.
2. Bitcoin ETFs Add Nearly $800 Million in the Wake of Coldcard Exploit URL: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/news/bitcoin-etfs-800-million-coldcard Published: 2026-08-07 11:00 AM CT Summary: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $790.6 million in net inflows over the seven trading days following the Coldcard firmware exploit, according to the Bitcoin For ETF Dashboard. More than $1.0 billion entered the funds while $212.7 million exited, marking one of the strongest weekly periods in recent months. The only negative session was July 31, when the funds saw $212.7 million in net outflows, but buyers returned the next four sessions with gains of $170.1 million, $207.8 million, $241.6 million, and $99.4 million. BlackRock's IBIT led the inflows with $757.5 million in rolling net inflows, extending its streak to four consecutive days and adding $128.3 million on the latest session. The article notes that ETF flow data cannot explain investor motivation, but the numbers suggest institutional demand remained intact despite security headlines.
3. Bitcoin ETFs See Best Weekly Inflows Since April: Bloomberg URL: https://cointelegraph.com/news/us-bitcoin-etfs-best-weekly-inflows-april-coldcard-hack Published: 2026-08-08 11:20 AM CT Summary: US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted roughly $1 billion in net inflows for the week, their strongest showing since April and third-best week since last October, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. The rebound follows months of uneven flows and comes amid uncertainty around digital asset regulation and a security incident involving Coldcard hardware wallets. The Coldcard hack, linked to a flaw in key generation, resulted in about $116 million worth of Bitcoin being stolen. Balchunas suggested the incident could strengthen the appeal of spot Bitcoin ETFs among investors uncomfortable with self-custody, though he acknowledged correlation does not imply causation. The week's inflows mark a notable recovery after a period of deterioration in ETF flows, which some analysts attributed to early investors selling into institutional demand.
4. BIP-110 Splits Bitcoin as Rival Miners Clash at Block 961632 URL: https://news.bitcoin.com/crypto-news/bip-110-splits-bitcoin-as-rival-miners-clash-at-block-961632 Published: 2026-08-08 Summary: Bitcoin's blockchain split into two versions at block 961632 on Aug. 8, 2026, after Antpool mined the main-chain block while BIP-110 supporter Roughnecks produced a rival version of the same block. The split occurred during a difficulty adjustment that raised mining difficulty by 0.99%. Bitcoin's main chain advanced to blocks 961633 and 961634, mined by F2pool and Simple Mining, while the BIP-110 side remained stalled at 961632 as of 4:35 p.m. BIP-110 supporters LukeDashjr and Bitcoin Mechanic accused Antpool of mining an invalid block, while BIP-110 creator Dathon Ohm congratulated Roughnecks on the first compliant block. The BIP-110 chain could remain stuck for hours or days unless its supporters alter proof-of-work, and the article notes the possibility of a 'nuclear option.'
5. BIP-110 Begins Mandatory Signaling on Bitcoin URL: https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-bip-110-mandatory-signaling Published: 2026-08-08 04:17 PM CT Summary: Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 110 entered its mandatory-signaling phase at block 961,632 on Saturday, with miners signaling support in just 51 of the preceding 2,016 blocks, or 2.53%, well below the 55% threshold required for early activation. Starting at that block, nodes enforcing BIP-110 began rejecting blocks that did not set version bit 4, while ordinary Bitcoin nodes continued accepting both signaling and non-signaling blocks. The low signaling rate makes a sustained rival chain unlikely without substantially greater miner participation. BIP-110, written by pseudonymous developer Dathon Ohm, proposes temporary consensus restrictions lasting roughly one year, including limits on output scripts, OP_RETURN outputs, and certain data pushes, to discourage inscriptions and other non-monetary data. Critics, including Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor and Blockstream CEO Adam Back, have argued that the proposal could divide Bitcoin and cause nodes to reject transactions permitted under existing rules.
6. Bitcoin holders risk losing real BTC if they sell coins from BIP-110 fork, says developer URL: https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/08/08/bitcoin-holders-risk-losing-real-btc-if-they-sell-coins-from-bip-110-fork-says-developer Published: 2026-08-08 Summary: Bitcoin may split into two chains this weekend due to the BIP-110 soft fork proposal, which would restrict non-payment data in transactions. If a minority chain emerges, holders would have duplicate balances, and selling the forked coins could trigger a replay attack that spends real bitcoin on the main chain. Developer Kevin Loaec warned on X that large holders could be targeted first, and doing nothing is the safest option until replay protection is enabled. BIP-110 requires 55% miner signalling, but current signalling is near 2.6%, making a split possible but not certain. Replay protection is not automatic until block 965,664, expected around early September. BobClawblaw/newspost.py v1.4.12 | deepseek-v4-flash-0731

Will Craig 'Satoshi' Wright double fork this one too? I'm so glad that clown is gone, but I am kind of sad that Luke bet the farm reputationally on this. Luke has been one of the most important contributors to Bitcoin from almost the very beginning. I am very familiar with OCPD autistic perfectionists. Ask me why. No dont.

Now we wait to see what Luke, Mechanic "Dathon Ohm"(?) and the folks want to do about possibly forking off.
Will Craig 'Satoshi' Wright double fork this one too? Haha, used an AI cause I'm lazy but it looks like his goose is pretty cooked. is Craig 'Satoshi' Wright still in hiding from the law? Craig Wright is not exactly "in hiding," but he is deliberately staying outside the UK — reportedly in Asia, in a country without an extradition treaty — to avoid arrest, after a UK judge sentenced him to a suspended prison term and referred him for criminal prosecution. So "lying low to dodge UK jurisdiction" is closer to the truth than classic fugitive-style hiding. The core of the matter In March 2024, UK High Court Justice James Mellor ruled that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, finding he had committed forgery "on a grand scale" in support of his false claim. A worldwide anti-suit injunction was issued barring him from asserting he is Satoshi. In July 2024, Mellor referred Wright to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for potential perjury and forgery prosecution, noting that Wright had left his Wimbledon residence and was last tracked to the UTC+7 time zone (which covers Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and others). The contempt sentence and his current status In December 2024, after Wright filed a new £900 billion (~$1.1 trillion) lawsuit against BTC Core and Jack Dorsey's SquareUp in breach of the anti-suit injunction, Mellor found him in contempt and handed down a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years (i.e., until 20 December 2026), plus £145,000 in costs. Key details about his whereabouts from that hearing: Wright refused to attend in person and appeared by video, saying only that he was "in Asia" while declining to be more specific. Mellor observed that Wright "appears to be well aware of countries with which the U.K. does not have extradition arrangements," and that an international arrest warrant may be needed if he breaches the order. In May 2025, the High Court went further and imposed a three-year General Civil Restraint Order — a rare, draconian measure — barring Wright from issuing any claim or application in the High Court or County Courts without prior court permission. The judgment criticised his "continuing and brazen abuse of the court's process" and noted he uses "litigation as a means to terrorise perceived opponents." He was also ordered to pay £225,000 in indemnity costs for improperly using AI in his appeal submissions. Timeline of the downfall 2016 — Wright publicly claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto; proof widely debunked. March 2024 — UK High Court rules he is not Satoshi; worldwide anti-suit injunction granted. July 2024 — Referred to CPS for perjury/forgery; confirmed to have left the UK. October 2024 — Files new £900bn lawsuit in breach of injunctions, triggering contempt proceedings. December 2024 — Sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, suspended to December 2026; appears by video from Asia. March 2025 — Court of Appeal orders £225,000 indemnity costs for AI-misuse in submissions. May 2025 — Three-year General Civil Restraint Order issued. Why he's "lying low" rather than "hiding" Wright has continued posting on social media — in January 2025 he referenced his "mission" and vowed to "keep coming back" — so he isn't underground in the conventional sense. The practical calculus is simpler: as long as the suspended sentence (active until 20 December 2026) and the possible CPS arrest warrant hang over him, returning to the UK — or any country that extradites to the UK — would risk immediate imprisonment. Staying in a non-extradition jurisdiction keeps him out of custody while letting him remain publicly vocal online. The net effect is that he is effectively a UK-jurisdiction fugitive by geography, even if not by profile — openly posting, but strategically staying beyond the reach of the British courts and any potential arrest warrant.
