Now we wait to see what Luke, Mechanic "Dathon Ohm"(?) and the folks want to do about possibly forking off.

Will Craig 'Satoshi' Wright double fork this one too?

I'm so glad that clown is gone, but I am kind of sad that Luke bet the farm reputationally on this. Luke has been one of the most important contributors to Bitcoin from almost the very beginning.

I am very familiar with OCPD autistic perfectionists. Ask me why.  No dont.

I am familiar with them and they need to be broken on the wheel of life and rebuilt into kinder gentler versions of them or is it their selves.

So the signaling block has come and gone. What we're hearing now is talk of a proof of work change. And I'm assuming an air drop to a new coin.

Since the plan is to change proof of work, regular Bitcoin will just hum along as it always has most likely.

Interesting.

was there supposed to be a hashrate split? btc hashrate seems the same?

No... Still rumors, but if the Bip110 folks feel this was not signaled for by the majority of miners they will announce that Bitcoin is a "corporate coin" and fork to a different POW.  So existing miners will not be able to mine this new altcoin if that is the case.

It was painfully obvious they would not gain consensus amongst the mining community, and it has failed as expected.

Now we wait to see what Luke, Mechanic "Dathon Ohm"(?) and the folks want to do about possibly forking off.

But evidently they believe it's to the "game theory" now...

Steady Lads.  Bitcoin is for enemies. Slay your heroes. Not your dice not your ice.

Looks like Bitcoin chose the longest chain... just the way Satoshi designed it. 😄

🚨BREAKING: Bitcoin's BIP-110 soft fork OFFICIALLY FAILS after mining just two blocks.

The minority chain split off at block 961,632 with just 2.53% miner support.

It stalled behind the main chain almost immediately.

The fork inherited Bitcoin's full 127.48 TRILLION mining difficulty with almost none of the computing power.

Its next difficulty adjustment is 350 days away, per CoinDesk.

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-08-09 (Late Morning Edition)

Published: 2026-08-09 09:03 AM CT

Sunday's market is grinding higher, with Bitcoin up 2.7% over the past week, but the Fear & Greed Index at 31 (Fear) tells you this is a cautious climb, not a euphoric rally. The dominant story isn't price action, though: a Lightning Network exploit at BTCPay Server drained funds from at least two operators, and a controversial BIP-110 fork stalled after just two blocks, both reminding traders that the risks here are mostly around the edges, not the core protocol. With thin weekend liquidity, the 24-hour move is flat at +0.30%, and price sits above the 30-day average of $64,328, but sentiment remains wary.

Outlook: Watch whether the BIP-110 fork fizzles out completely or sparks any replay-related confusion, since the gap between the two chains is widening and the enforcing branch has no realistic path to its signaling deadline. Also keep an eye on MARA's $600 million bitcoin-backed loan, as a price drop could trigger margin calls and forced selling, though the 7-day trend is up and ETF inflows last week were the best since April.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Bitcoin is at $65,171.00, up 0.30% over 24 hours and up 2.7% over seven days. The derived Momentum-Sentiment Composite reads +6 on a -50 to +50 scale. Buyers are defending the $63,500 support level, and the recent bounce off that zone shows they remain in control for now. The market is trading below the $67,000 resistance, which means the path higher stays blocked until that level gives way. Sentiment remains fearful at 31 on the Fear & Greed index, but that fear has not translated into aggressive selling, as the price has held its ground over the past week. A daily close below $63,500 would shift control to sellers and open the door toward the $62,000 downside target. Conversely, a sustained push through $67,000 would signal that buyers have regained the initiative and could drive the market toward $68,500.

SCENARIOS

- Consolidation Above $63,500 (43%): triggers: Bitcoin holds $63,500 on daily closes through Friday, with the Fear & Greed index staying below 40. Invalidation: A daily close below $63,500 through Friday.
- Upside Breakout Above $67,000 (47%): triggers: Bitcoin reclaims $67,000 on a daily close through Friday, with volume expanding on the move higher. Invalidation: A daily close back below $67,000 through Friday after initially breaking above it.
- Downside Re-test of $62,000 (10%): triggers: Bitcoin loses $63,500 on a daily close through Friday, with the Fear & Greed index dropping below 25. Invalidation: A daily close back above $63,500 through Friday.

KEY MARKET MOVERS

- Lightning Network Risk: The BTCPay Server exploit highlights a vulnerability in the Lightning ecosystem, not Bitcoin itself, but it could dampen institutional interest in layer-2 solutions until confidence is restored.
- Mining Economics: MARA's $600 million loan, backed by 18,750 BTC, shows miners are leveraging their holdings for capital, but the pledged collateral (53% of their reserves) exposes them to margin calls if price falls, a structural risk that could amplify any downturn.

TOP STORIES

1. BTCPay Server Rotates Credentials After Lightning Exploit
URL: https://cointelegraph.com/news/btcpay-restricts-remote-lightning-access-after-attackers-steal-funds
Published: 2026-08-09 12:46 AM CT
Summary: BTCPay Server restricted public remote connections to Lightning Network nodes running LND software after attackers exploited a critical vulnerability to obtain credentials and move funds. The project's version 2.4.2 installs LND 0.21.1 and automatically regenerates macaroon credentials on standard installations, but operators with independent access routes must rotate credentials separately. At least two operators, Foundation and Citadel21, reported drained Lightning nodes, though neither disclosed the amount lost. The vulnerability allowed unauthenticated remote attackers to obtain macaroon files, which could let them take control of an LND node and move its funds. This incident follows a Coldcard hardware-wallet flaw linked to more than $100 million in confirmed losses, and both affected software surrounding Bitcoin rather than the network's underlying protocol.

2. Bitcoin ETFs Are Having Their Best Week Since April. Did the Coldcard Hack Push $853M Into Bitcoin ETFs
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoin-etfs-having-best-week-221057546.html
Published: 2026-08-08 06:10 PM CT
Summary: US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $853.54 million in the week ending August 7, their best week since April and five times the total for all of July. Investors bought 88% of that before the July jobs report, so the weak jobs data explains Friday's Bitcoin rally rather than the inflows. The Coldcard exploit drained roughly $130 million from over 7,700 wallets, and about 210,000 BTC moved from private wallets to exchanges in the days after. Analysts like Eric Balchunas argue the hack pushed holders into ETFs, but skeptics note Ethereum ETFs also saw inflows and no drained wallet has been traced to a fund. The article also promotes a reader guide claiming the 4% rule is broken and pitches an income-floor retirement strategy.

3. MARA Pledges 18,750 BTC for $600 Million New Bitcoin-Backed Loans
URL: https://news.bitcoin.com/finance/mara-pledges-18750-btc-for-600-million-new-bitcoin-backed-loans
Published: 2026-08-09
Summary: MARA secured $600 million in new debt by pledging 18,750 bitcoin, which were valued at about $1.2 billion at closing. The two term loans, from Coinbase Credit and Two Prime Lending, were completed on Aug. 4 and have a combined principal of $750 million, including the refinancing of an existing $150 million credit line. The pledged bitcoin represent almost 53% of the 35,577 tokens MARA held on June 30, and the company could face margin calls if the price falls. MARA sold 23,093 bitcoin for $1.6 billion in the first half of 2026, reducing its holdings from 53,822 tokens at the end of December. The company plans to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including part of the cash consideration for its planned acquisition of Long Ridge Energy & Power LLC, a gas-fired power plant in Ohio.

4. Controversial Bitcoin fork BIP-110 mines two blocks, then stops
URL: https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/08/09/controversial-bitcoin-fork-bip-110-mines-two-blocks-then-stops
Published: 2026-08-09
Summary: A minority chain created by BIP-110 supporters split from Bitcoin on Saturday and has produced only two blocks in roughly eight hours, while the main chain advanced by 48 blocks. The fork occurred at block 961,632 when BIP-110 nodes began rejecting blocks that did not signal support for the proposal. BIP-110 would temporarily ban storing non-financial data like images and text in bitcoin transactions, a move backers say reduces congestion and costs, but critics argue it violates users' freedom to use paid block space. The breakaway chain inherited Bitcoin's mining difficulty with only 2.53% of recent mining support, leaving blocks hours apart and no realistic path to meeting its signaling deadline. Both chains still accept identical transactions, exposing users to replay risks where a buyer could rebroadcast a fork-coin transaction on Bitcoin and collect real BTC from the same seller.

5. BIP-110 Bitcoin branch stalls after two blocks as gap widens
URL: https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-bip-110-branch-stalls-miner-support
Published: 2026-08-09 06:00 AM CT
Summary: Bitcoin's BIP-110-enforcing branch stalled at block 961,633 on Sunday after producing only two blocks, while the non-enforcing chain advanced to 961,721, widening the gap to 88 blocks. A pseudonymous mining group called Roughnecks produced the branch's first two blocks using Ocean's DATUM mining protocol. The divergence began after BIP-110 entered mandatory signaling at block 961,632, with only 51 of the preceding 2,016 blocks, or 2.53%, signaling support. Under the rules, mandatory signaling continues through block 963,647, and the enforcing branch must mine through the remainder of the 2,016-block adjustment period before its difficulty can adjust. Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor said he shared the proposal's objectives but argued its approach threatened Bitcoin's neutral rules and consensus, while Blockstream CEO Adam Back warned the change could damage Bitcoin's credibility and potentially make certain unspent transaction outputs unspendable.

Roger Ver was also a big supporter of BTC, as were many others who at some point in their lives decided that something was wrong with the original Bitcoin and would try to sell the same story about how they fixed Bitcoin. However, unlike the drama that unfolded regarding BCH, this is so pointless that I don't even understand why it's getting so much attention.
