BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-08-11 (Evening Edition)

Published: 2026-08-11 09:03 PM CT

Tuesday's tape is flat, with Bitcoin drifting 0.38% lower over 24 hours to $63,773, and the Fear & Greed Index stuck at 27 for a sixth straight day. The real story is BlackRock slashing its in-kind ETF swap minimum from $25M to $1M, a 96% cut that opens a cheaper, tax-friendly door into IBIT without selling first. Price sits below the 30-day average of $64,303, and the 7-day trend is down 1.2%, so this is a grind, not a recovery.

Outlook: Watch whether the BlackRock swap threshold change actually pulls new inflows into spot ETFs, especially after last week's $850M haul and Monday's $145M outflow. Also keep an eye on the BIP-110 fork's stalled difficulty adjustment, now six years out, which could fade into irrelevance or spark a governance debate. No price calls here, just data: the 30-day average is overhead, and sentiment is improving by 2 points, so the next move depends on whether buyers step in at these levels.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Bitcoin is at $63,773.00, down 0.38% over 24 hours and down 1.2% over seven days. The derived Momentum-Sentiment Composite reads +7 on a -50 to +50 scale, which runs against the week's move: the composite blends price change, sentiment and spot premium, so it can tilt one way while realised price runs the other, and it does not override what the price did. Sellers look to be in control while the price sits below $65,000, but the composite's +7 reading suggests the selling pressure may be losing force even as the week's decline continues. The $62,500 support level is the line that matters: holding it keeps the range intact, while losing it opens the door to the $61,000 downside target. A reclaim of $65,000 would flip control back to buyers, and the Fear & Greed reading of 27 shows sentiment is weak but not at panic extremes. The tension between the negative price move and the positive composite hints that the market is not uniformly bearish, just hesitant. What would flip the current setup is a daily close above $65,000 on rising volume, or a break below $62,500 that accelerates selling.

SCENARIOS

- Consolidation Above $62,500 (46%): triggers: Bitcoin holds $62,500 as daily support through Friday, with the Fear & Greed index staying below 35 and no daily close below that level. Invalidation: a daily close below $62,500 within five trading days, which would shift the setup to the downside scenario.
- Upside Reclaim of $65,000 (27%): triggers: Bitcoin reclaims $65,000 on a daily closing basis within five trading days, followed by a push toward the $66,500 upside target. Invalidation: a daily close back below $65,000 after reclaiming it, or a failure to reach $66,500 within five trading days once above $65,000.
- Downside Re-test of $61,000 (27%): triggers: Bitcoin loses $62,500 on a daily closing basis within five trading days, with the Fear & Greed index dropping below 25, targeting the $61,000 downside level. Invalidation: a daily close back above $62,500 within five trading days, which would nullify the breakdown and return the market to the consolidation scenario.

KEY MARKET MOVERS

- Regulatory catalyst: The SEC's July 2025 approval of in-kind crypto ETF swaps is now being operationalized by BlackRock's minimum cut, a structural shift that could accelerate institutional adoption.
- Mining economics: The 3.43% difficulty drop, alongside the stalled BIP-110 fork, highlights a shakeout in mining profitability, which may reduce sell pressure from miners.

TOP STORIES

1. Bitcoin Holders Get 96% Cheaper Entry Into BlackRock's ETF Without Selling
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoin-holders-96-cheaper-entry-235000786.html
Published: 2026-08-11 07:50 PM CT
Summary: BlackRock cut the minimum for in-kind Bitcoin-to-ETF swaps from $25 million to $1 million, opening a direct route into the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) without selling first. The swap runs through authorized participants, and the SEC only permitted in-kind crypto ETF swaps in July 2025. US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew over $850 million last week, their best week since April, and now hold about $78 billion in bitcoin, though they shed $145 million on August 10. The tax advantage is that swapping Bitcoin into IBIT may not trigger capital gains because IBIT is a grantor trust, but the IRS has not formally ruled on it, and the original cost basis carries over. Bitcoin traded near $63,602 on Tuesday, down 1.2% in a day.

2. CFTC Charges Goliath Ventures With $400M Bitcoin Fraud
URL: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/news/cftc-charges-goliath-in-bitcoin-fraud
Published: 2026-08-11
Summary: The Commodity Futures Trading Commission sued Goliath Ventures Inc. and its CEO, Christopher Delgado, alleging a Ponzi scheme that took in at least $397 million from about 1,600 customers. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, claims the defendants solicited funds for crypto trading, primarily in Bitcoin, then misappropriated all of it. The CFTC alleges the defendants used incoming money to pay fictitious profits to earlier investors and fund Delgado's lavish lifestyle, while guaranteeing returns and sending fake account statements. Delgado pleaded guilty in June to federal criminal charges in a parallel case brought by the U.S. Attorney's Office. The CFTC seeks restitution, disgorgement, civil penalties, trading bans, and a permanent injunction, though the allegations remain unproven and restitution may be difficult to collect.

3. Bitcoin's BIP-110 fork is 300 blocks behind BTC and six years from fixing itself
URL: https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/08/11/bitcoin-s-bip-110-fork-is-300-blocks-behind-btc-and-six-years-from-fixing-itself
Published: 2026-08-11
Summary: A breakaway Bitcoin chain triggered by the BIP-110 proposal has stalled after producing only two blocks since splitting on Saturday, while Bitcoin has added more than 300 blocks in the same period. The fork inherited Bitcoin's mining difficulty but its coin has no market value, so miners have little incentive to support it. The chain cannot adjust its difficulty until it reaches 2,016 blocks, a milestone now estimated to be over six years away, up from 350 days on Sunday. Nick Ruck of LVRG Research called the experiment effectively collapsed, while Himanshu Sahay of Arch cautioned it is too early to declare failure. The fork is 326 blocks behind the main chain, which is at block 961,959.

4. Casa CEO: 233k BTC Moved to Safety After Coldcard Exploit Proves Self-Custody Resilience
URL: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/news/casa-ceo-nick-neuman-233k-btc-moved-to-safety-after-coldcard-exploit-proves-self-custody-resilience
Published: 2026-08-11
Summary: Casa CEO Nick Neuman cited onchain data showing that after the Coldcard firmware exploit, approximately 2.1k BTC was stolen, 22k BTC moved to exchanges, and 233k BTC left long-term holder wallets. The vulnerability stemmed from a March 2021 firmware issue that weakened seed generation on certain Coldcard models. Neuman said some of the 233k BTC movement reflected holders shifting from single-key setups like Ledger or Trezor into multisig wallets, while others removed Coldcard devices from their keysets. He argued that a centralized custodian breach would have resulted in larger losses, whereas self-custody forced attackers to crack wallets one at a time. Neuman concluded that self-custody distributes risk and preserves confidence in the Bitcoin network.

5. Bitcoin Price Prediction: Can Bitcoin Reach $1 Million
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/bitcoin-price-prediction-bitcoin-reach-225618780.html
Published: 2026-08-11 06:56 PM CT
Summary: Bitcoin trades near $64,000, down roughly half from its all-time high last October, yet several prominent forecasters still expect it to reach $1 million within a decade. Michael Saylor, Cathie Wood, and Bernstein each project $1 million BTC by 2030 or 2033, while Bitwise's Matt Hougan sees it taking about ten years. To hit $1 million, Bitcoin would need to capture 17% of a projected $121 trillion store-of-value market, up from its current 4% share, assuming that market keeps growing at 13% annually. Bitcoin has compounded at 60% per year over the past decade, but the last five years have delivered only 7% annual growth, making the timeline uncertain. The article also promotes a free guide on the '4% rule' for retirement income, which is unrelated to Bitcoin.

Strategy CEO Says Bitcoin Holdings Will Grow By Year’s End

Strategy (NASDAQ: $MSTR) CEO Phong Le is seeking to reassure investors that the company's Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) holdings will grow again this year.

Le said that Strategy intends to continue growing its Bitcoin holdings even after multiple sales in recent weeks that reduced the company's ownership to 840,447 BTC.

In an interview with Fox Business, Le said the company will return to accumulating Bitcoin once it finishes building up its U.S. dollar reserves and supports its preferred stock (NASDAQ: $STRC) that pays a bi-monthly dividend that yields 12%.
