monkey gave up on getting btc any cheaper.
monkey is all-in.

ouch. i'm seeing a topping formation here. will take the next few hours (at least) to confirm one way or the other. i think if 2900 goes, it could get ugly in a hurry.
It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

you clearly have not taken any cyber space physics classes

all kinds of possibilities open up

I was wrong anyway. The Earth has enough rotational energy to winch the Moon down to the surface. (21x1028 vs 8x1028 J)

On the bright side, we'd have more hours in the day.

I suspect something about how the Moon was formed in the first place has something to do with it. The difference in energy is probably came from whatever hit the Earth hard enough to knock part of it up there in the first place.

Even if they manage to completely co-opt Bitcoin development, the global insurrection against the status quo will not simply evaporate. It will simply move on to a different venue and all the resources they put into neutering Bitcoin will be wasted.

wait a min.
"Even if they manage to completely co-opt Bitcoin development"
isn't that what we want?
we want the world on board,
that in itself will satisfy the " global insurrection against the status quo "

what more do you want? control of the world? ya  cool join the club and buy some bitcoin.

bitcoin is the decentralization of world domination

Have a look here http://morgana.unimore.it/bertocchi_graziella/papers/cooptweb.pdf for what, in my opinion, he mean for co-option.

no i get it, they will try to, co-opt bitcoin and "rule it" how they see it.

i dont know who rules bitcoin right now, nor do i care.

point is we all want to.

thats what gives it value.

you can't just move to a new venue, thats admitting defeat and then going to play another game.

Let's imagine the beginning of the press era. A few revolutionaries tried to print their ideas and spread them far and wide, to the uttermost disconcert of the ruling class that at that point controlled the mean of mass information (papers nailed outside the churches), almost without effort.

Now, we know how it all ended: the ruling class just saw the potential of the medium not to spread potentially destabilizing information, but to spread stabilizing ones. I bet that Gutenberg didn't see that coming.

You say it is impossible, but I was able to come up with a co-opt strategy in 10 minutes. Keep reading.

Let's say that a powerful actor want to disrupt bitcoin (or any blockchain / 'mining' based technology).
He can build mining facilities, careful to not disclose that they are associated and can act in accordance.
With time, he obtain the vast majority of the hashing power.
Then, it start to inhibit transactions at random.
At this point users realize that the system is unusable and try to switch to another similar system.
The actor repeat the process.
The only solution at this point is another technology shift in these matters, with the same benefits of bitcoin but without his (by now perceived) drawbacks.
