Third thread is the charm... * jwinterm crosses fingers I am liking the latest direction of the coin but i am still kind of mad at the creator of this coin because they burned me on about $10,000 when they where vertpay (or something like that)... it was a paypal alternative, then they switched to a crypto coin and promised to transfer our balances to this new coin but the form always gave an error when trying to transfer your funds. So i feel i cant get involved with this coin after a deal like i had in the past. Burn me once, shame on me... Good luck tho.

This is what I don't understand. THe same guy who develops Vertcoin develops VertZero. Then the project dies. Like I went looking for it the other day - I could find nothing. And then he launches Zcoin after screwing everyone over. Whatever happened to vertzero? Why was it never included in Vert?

I'm no expert in this story but from what I've read/been told ZeroVert was just a scam pump and dump coin. And he is no longer fully associated with VTC, just one of the creators. He expressed interest to help recently, since supposedly he still loves Vertcoin; but allegedly he has created about three pump and dump scam coins before bringing back Zcoin (same code as the original Zerocoin).

Ehhhh he probably watched completely transparent branded Dash/Dark explode after he beat them to confidential transactions. In addition to their bugscammine & massively cutting inflation post social contract & said "fuck it. I'm gonna get rich." Guess I shouldn't blame him too much. I've poked around and saw reference to Vert doing the first atomic crosschain transactions with litecoin but couldn't find much else. Any idea who the current devs are and if there is truth to the rumor?

Any idea who the current devs are and if there is truth to the rumor? Confidential transactions is actually a specific technology that is patented by Greg Maxwell - a specific technology that neither vtc, drk/dash, zerovert, or zcoin use. Current devs for vtc are led by James Lovejoy who is a student at MIT blockchain program. There have been no atomic swaps between vtc and ltc so far, but both have activated segwit, and when that feature is implemented in MIT lightning implementation or other implementation I think plan is to quickly test on mainnet.

"Please update wallets immediately to avoid losing coins"
I don't understand this part. It's a softfork right? Are people really losing coins or is it just something to say to make people update?
If that's it, haha pretty creative I guess.
I think it's just hyperbole to get people to update, but maybe miners could get screwed if they don't update? miners will not be forked off of the network. Segwit uses BIP9 versionbits Well with wrong code they hard forked their coin the last time. Everyone had to downgrade. So I'm asking, is this the Segwit with wrong code & just hardfork because YOLO or is it a cool marketing stunt? Well after we reach the 75% threshold the new rules will activate and old version blocks will start to be orphaned, so there is a danger of coin loss if you don't upgrade your wallet. This is the release with the correct code. Softfork means it is backwards compatible with old wallets. So are we hardforking (not compatible with old wallets) instead of softfork now? Old wallets will continue to sync with the chain and be able to issue transactions but newly generated blocks coming from old wallets (ie blocks with nVersion 4 or less) will no longer be accepted as valid after activation. This is the same behavior as Bitcoin/Litecoin. If anyone ask about Segwit, just read this post.
