Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Just an fyi to all the potential miners, the first 100 blocks will carry 0 reward to make sure everyone has enough time to look at code, install wallets etc... This is being done to prevent instamine.

Wallets are scheduled for release tonight at 1130 US Eastern time. Windows and linux are available. Source will also be released and mining can begin. The first 100 blocks yield 0 reward to allow time for everyone to get setup/ check out code and wallets etc...
