United were a graveyard of talent and when undertaker Ten Hag arrived it only got worse. Only Casemiro or a similar player who has already won everything he could (5 Champions Leagues like Casemiro) and is now looking only for a fat contract can go to United in a clear mind.

I think one of the best examples for a failed transfer is Jadon Sancho and he is by far not the only one who was purchased and came to Manchester United evoking big hopes and optimism. Difficulty adapting may not be a strange thing in football, especially if you see players in the previous team performing quite brilliantly but when they join a new team they start to lose their best form. The FA cup as you have rightful said is the only available trophy for Manchester United this season plus also the fight for the champions league spot. I think this is a very very long way of saying "we can't afford to buy Mbappe". I mean they would love to have him, and the only thing standing between them and Mbappe is not money, because they may offer even more than Madrid and still lose out on him, but lets assume that they could just spend the same amount and get him, somehow convince him to play in this dysfunctional team, they still look like they can't afford him.

But talking about the current season and the only three teams able to win the trophy this season, if we are talking about the potential contenders for the upcoming season, and yeah, they are all capable of winning it, things may be very different when it comes to the current season.
