no way>>>>>>

it was in the past God commanded you, now God will never ask you to kill your kids

This argument may be true for those religions, which have reformed with the progress of civilization, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity. But there are some religions, which are still stuck in the stone age.

Okay, now this is legit concern, Sithara.

But suicide order from the leader of sect XY isnt much different than military draft by government. Both essentially claiming authority over life and death of your son, because of power. Forcing you to comply with violence if neccessary.

As to Islam and the debate, if its stone age or not. Scripture of muslims also doesnt blatantly say to kill your offspring, what it does is to give vague description of self sacrifice. Ie. muslims, who die defending other muslims are regardless of any and all of their sins allowed to enter paradise. Some twisted fanatics may and indeed do translate that into sacrificing their children in jihad. It is horrible problem, but not the norm or even standartly taught in many of islams schools (sufis in particular known for non-violence). Logically entire muslim population would be dead in several generations if that was the case.

You are right, that similar concepts are mostly absent in various manifestations of Christianity, Hinduism or Buddhism. Christianity in particular even denying proper church burial to people guilty of suicide.

If it is the command of god then I will do it, like the story of one of the prophets who almost killed with his father because for the sacrifice, before being killed finally god lowered the goat instead, eventually it was just a test to test the faith of his people.

According to ten commandments, we should not kill people because it is a major sin. If God command me to kill, I will not follow him because God didn't want to do it, maybe he is just testing our faith to him. God didn't want to have us a miserable life so if we continue pray and have faith to him, we can have a better life because that is God want us to do.

I have an idea you may be referencing Genesis 22 where God commands Abraham to sacrifice his son of promise, Isaac? If you are implicitly referring to this story, then it's not as straightforward as it seems, namely a deranged old psycho trying to murder his son, if taken form the standpoint of the complete context (whole story) of which this particular chapter forms only a small part, and also taken within the larger religio-cultural context and time frame the story is told, which is ancient to say the least. First off, the boy's mother conceived the child at a miraculous age of 91. Second, a covenant was made wholly by El Shaddai (17:2 I will make a covenant between us..) which is also quite unusual according to the customs of ancient middle east. The nuanced details that color the the background to the developing plot of sacrifice of the boy-of-covenant-promise in chapter 22 is actually heart wrenchingly beautiful once you understand the whole context of the ancient tale, since it underscores quite dramatically what complete trust is all about. The story's main focus is not about (and never was intended to be about) killing of a son, but about whether Abraham completely trusted God. It is reasoned by some religious people that the story implicates the faith that Abraham must have had in God's ability to resurrect Isaac from the dead.

PS: the problem with religious texts is that they are often taken literally as part of divine doctrinal mandate and then all sorts of bad things start to happen when believers apply those mandates as set forth in their holy books. I do not support the text as having any "divine inspiration" to be obeyed to the letter. It is, at best, an intriguing tale of an imaginary powerful deity and his relationship with one of his most faithful followers.

This is plain unbelievable. You are capable of posting in English and even then you are having such crazy and lunatic views? I don't expect a computer literate person (in his normal mental state) to murder his own child, even if he is having the hallucination that god orders him to do that. The story of the prophets is a myth. You need to separate myths from real life.

Would you kill your own children if God commanded you to?
A perfectly valid legit question.

Please no attempts to derail the thread with nonsense like "God would never say that" or "God would never change the rules with murder" etc....

If it is indeed a god command I must do
Allah enjoins the Muslims to follow his orders and stay away from any restrictions
For me Muslims, the command of god (Allah) is absolute

I think I wouldn't be able to do that because my child is my own flesh and blood. But, since you told us not to spoil the thread, I would even consider doing it if it's for everyone's good or if it would change the world into a better place. I would just explain to my child before doing it and tell my child not to bear any grudge against God because God asked for it.

Epic review of The Binding of Isaac! (עֲקֵידַת יִצְחַק)

I lol'd @deranged old psycho trying to murder his son, but I would have put more emphasis on how crazy a person has to be to drag their son to the top of a mountain, bind his son to a sacrificial table and take out the knife...

note: In the story god replaces Isaac with a ram, not a goat as a previous reviewer suggested

For real? What kind of person could get himself asked that question?  A stupid one, for sure  Huh

And what about the 2-3 users, who replied YES to that question? What would you call them? I will not call them as stupid. I would rather call them as dangerous psychopaths, who needs to be put behind bars for the rest of their miserable lives.

No, I will not kill anyone because I do not have the right to take the life of other people, only for self-defense purposes. And in general, blg can not give such stupid orders because he loves everyone.

No! I would rather keep my children alive than to obey someone who doesn't have a solid proof of existence.
Why not do it himself if it is really necessary? Why always pass on man when the situation is going to kill someone?

There is God. According to ten commandments we should not kill people. Maybe God is just testing our faith to him if we will follow him or not. God want us to live a peaceful and happy life that will not happen if we kill someone. So I will not kill people instead I will pray to him.
