I would like to order 640 chips. but,

All packages will be shipped via USPS

is not an option for me. I'm India and here it will be Indian post and custom clearance can be real troublesome. Please confirm Fedex or DHL shipment possibility. thanks

I would like to order 136 chips with the intention of having them hosted by you. In the process of sending payment and other required info right after I post this message.

Thanks steamboat for taking on this task.

Hi,

I want to order 10 boards, assembled and hosted etc. Am i right in thinking I pay for the 160 chips now in bitcoins,  and the boards and everything else when the prices are finalised? Also, should I get a few extra chips just in case, and if so would 5 extra be enough?

Cheers

I ordered 2% extra chips on my order. I won't say it's necessary as I have read a lot of members saying that they're all tested before being shipped from Avalon, but I'd rather not risk it. If none are bad, you have some chips you can try putting into K1 boards down the road. Or, you can sell them after you get them in hand to people who did get bad chips who decided not to buy any extras.   Wink

Thanks for the info... 5 sounds like a good contingency then!

Anyone have an answer to the first question I asked please?

I am assuming that we pay for the chips first, then assembly/testing etc. later on once we are ready for that. The price for testing hasn't been nailed down yet so we couldn't really pay for assembly and testing now anyway. Steamboat please verify that only the chips need be paid for now.

Is it official that Avalon is producing a batch 4, and when would it be shipping?  Thanks,

I believe "batch 4" in this case refers to steamboat's 4th order of chips ("batch") from Avalon and not Avalon's own numbering of batches.

Correct. You are purchasing ASIC chips and/or assembly, not Avalon original miners.

Correct. Pricing for assembly is not yet finalized. Once the contracts have been signed and the price locked in, assembly will be made available for order. Please see the updated OP in regards to the second question.

Can we do a local pickup of completed miners?

Yes. Local pickup of chips and assembled units will be available Monday-Friday, during normal business hours.

Any shipping option is a possibility, so long as they offer tracking and signatures. FedEx and DHL have not been priced, and would need to be calculated based on order size, package weight, destination, etc. etc.

That is correct.

Purchases received, recorded, replied. Emails and PMs are being processed now.

The OP has been updated with details on the DOA chip solution.

You mentioned local pick-up in Florida, if this is correct, which part of Florida.

Hopefully near Fort Lauderdale?

If you are close I will stop by and say hi, with cash/BTC in hand

Chips available: 2,692
Update: 5/25/2013

Customers which have already made a purchase will have the option to purchase additional chips for the original price of BTC0.86, so long as there are chips available.
In the event the reserve is diminished, customers with an incomplete amount of chips may opt to be refunded BTC0.0939 for the remainder.

I assume typo?  BTC.086 right?

Edited to add:  Also, if I ordered in batch 3, and decide now to buy 2 extra chips to mitigate bad chip risk, do I buy from batch 4?  How does that affect me?

South Florida, specifically the West Palm Beach area.

Yes, the update now reflects the correct amount. Thank you.

Each batch has a small reserve for this purpose. Additional chips may be purchased from this reserve, in an amount up to 5% of the original purchase, and dependent on chip availability.

I've got 16 chips and would like to get an extra just in case.  5% = .8 chips. Round up?

So if you receive faulty goods we have to pay for more to replace them?

Surely this should be factored into the cost and we get 100% working products. This is the risk in assembling hardware, how is it fair to offload that risk completely onto your customers? Will you be charging more if one of the capacitors, PCBs, voltage regulators or transistors you buy is dodgy too?

Some of us just want to just pay and get a working product, not worry about whether when you're making 'our' miner that something could go wrong and we end up having to pay more/organise chip replacements, receive refunds for extra spare chips unused etc. Its hassle, and some of us don't have the time or patience for that.

Anyway, what's the ETA and total USD cost on being able to order a 'working klondike miner'? Having to pay in 2 different currencies and having to preorder potential extra parts for you to use in production is awkward and odd.

Technically, we are all investors, and the Klondike is a prototype product.

Hey, if one or two of my chips on a couple of my future Klondikes is not working, but most of the rest of it is, I figure I will be well ahead of BFL customers anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, Steamboat is carrying the same level of risk, if not more, than any of us.

So, to my mind, there is no way anybody can guarantee your 1-16 boards (or more), will be 100% working. Certainly, the ideal will be that they will be, but if its close, you'll be well ahead of BFL anyway.

You are not taking into account that a portion of the people ordering will simply take delivery of the chips.

You are not taking into account that a portion of the people ordering will simply take delivery of the chips.

I that case, you'll have to rely on Avalon's testing.

To quote Steamboat:

"Though Avalon has stated each chip will be tested prior to shipping, there are concerns regarding chip failure rates from batch purchases. The following solution will be adopted in the event faulty chips are discovered.
For future orders:
All customer orders after the timestamp of this post will be responsible for purchasing any additional chips required to ensure the completion of the requested number of assembled units. The amount of additional chips required is based solely on the discretion of the purchaser, and their personal anticipated failure rate of the Avalon chips. Some members of the community have suggested between one and five percent as an acceptable range to mitigate the risk of receiving a faulty chip."

________________________________

So, at least to my mind, if you're just taking delivery of the chips, then you are not completing assembled units, through Steamboat at the time, so you're just taking your chances buying the chips.

I'm sure somebody can correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course, if you don't want your chips, I will gladly take them off your hands for what you paid for them. I won't even ask you to test them.  Grin

What is this in BTC (Assume since FAQ says only BTC this is also in BTC?)

PCB and components: $35 per 16 chip board
Assembly: $60 per 16 chip board

Basically looking for a batch 4 total in BTC for 16 chip board fully assembled with normal shipping
