Bitmixer is now closed. Great news for ChipMixer! I'm wondering how the traffic towards chipmixer will be now that BM is closed, and I wish there was a way to track it. Either way, as sad as it is to see such a huge name disappear from the privacy aspect of mixing coins, this could potentially have some amazing positive effects on bitmixer. Good luck, chipmixer!
The news is not that great for a few reasons.

First, due to unexpected amount of traffic, all prepared chips were withdrawn (there were not enough for this demand), which means that some of you may have received less chips and a voucher for a missing sum. If you are one of those, you can now use your voucher. Why is it bad? Because chips you will withdraw now will be created after deposit which is one of the reasons why ChipMixer gives more privacy than other mixers. In this case, due to traffic, we could not offer that to you.

Second, if your competition stops for an unknown reason then it is never a good sign. They say it was a change of heart. Probably not true. But they did not do an exit scam so that is not big lie.
Why BitMixer left? If you check the news, you know that two big darknet markets were shut down by law enforcement. Both markets were protected by Tor and yet servers were located and one of them was made honeypot. An owner of one of the markets had four luxury cars and lot of money so everybody was asking - why keep risking a good life to provide darknet service? BitMixer owners probably asked it themselves and the answer was - it is not worth it anymore.

Today was a bad day for online privacy and bitcoin users. Thank you BitMixer for your work, you will be missed.

Big time for Chipmixer is coming!

Lets hope we will not choke on that cake.

wow wow wow! You are not kidding. I have just read through the bitmixer thread and they indeed have closed down.

Looks like the country they operated in put some pressure on them or something.

Chipmixer is a better service than bitmixer anyways, but this will certainly help chipmixer grow even larger now!

Am I correct?
What makes ChipMixer different from others service is the combination of various sized chips

And...
The mixer is still taking 1 confirmation only for trusting our transactions? because according to theymos, It should be multiplied by 5 currently because of BIP91. I personally have no problem doing transactions but It's probably something that might be taken in considerations.

Asking the same question to myself while visiting the website, I am curious to know

If someone is afraid to be shut down from their servers by governments, I'd like to suggest hosting servers on decentralized domain services if there

Are any? or do we really need something like Bitcoin? being strong enough with enough network spread to render any government unable to shut down.

Another solution could be hosting servers on a country where US government, or any western governments couldn't reach like Iran. <hint

Do you mean something like PeerName?

Found a big blunder in chipmixer lost 0.046BTC  today out of 0.11BTC I deposited.

How it all started :

1. I deposited 0.11BTC to https://blockchain.info/address/1Dhc5spGaqCX56k5diNc2LK57NDCHxmmTq

2. I got only 0.064BTC as deposited when it get confirmation and I got shocked because it was only showing 1 chip only of 0.064BTC

3. Then clicked on withdraw there I found one private key of the above amount and another 0.046BTC sitting as voucher but when I tried to redeem that voucher in another browser but it cache was wiped out on that next browser so after redeeming that voucher there I couldn't get next voucher code and now the old voucher code is not valid.

who told chipmixer to make voucher for half amount, i haven't clicked any option there and another thing I have my old voucher code which I will send to OP hope he will atleast give me my new voucher code to use and get my 0.046 bitcoin back

I am sad and will hope for reply from owner here or in private message.

OP what details or proofs you needed I can provide and lets make that quick because my session might end in next 48 hours.  Angry Angry Angry Angry

EDIT : I GOT NEW VOUCHER CODE FROM THAT NEW BROWSER BUT I WILL KEEP THIS POST TILL I CAN REDEEM IT THERE SEEMS NO ANY CHIPS LEFT IN SITE.

First of all, if you ever have any issues, it's better to contact ChipMixer support on chipmixer@protonmail.com

Now, they made a post explaining why this may have happened just two posts above yours.

Sad to hear that this happened and some people may have had a bad first experience with ChipMixer. But imagine being flooded by all the users of your old biggest competitor... Problems can happen.

OP what details or proofs you needed I can provide and lets make that quick because my session might end in next 48 hours.
Even if they take some time to answer you and your session is close to expire (I doubt they will take that long), you can always extend your session while mixing.

That was a really objective response, ChipMixer. I think there are many of us who believe that this was a blow to the community. Regardless of the reasons behind the decision, there is now a void that may take a while to fill.

Of much more concern will be what this means for (Bitcoin) online privacy, and how potent the weapons against it are becoming.

Bitmixer was a massive outfit... If you read the closing down thread, Bitmixer claims their service was valued at 5-6 million... Shocked
I could sell the business for our competitors for $5-6M

The volume required to be generating that level of value is pretty massive. No doubt that volume is now being spread across the remaining mixers like ChipMixer. I am not surprised there was a "run" on the available stock of chips... A sad day for BTC and privacy, but a window of opportunity for ChipMixer! Wink

What I also expect to see is a sharp increase in the number of "scam" mixers popping up... outright scam sites AND "clone" scams... be careful, double check your URLs etc.

it is always their own fault for slipping. they do all the security measures for their servers then they use same credentials for their emails in multiple places and leak a lot of their information. i believe that was how they caught them.
it is like the KickAssTorrent owner guy who was using coinbase for his bitcoin wallet and made purchases from iTunes IIRC!

Pretty much.  They caught the guy from Alpha Bay because he used his personal email in a "welcome email" to new users of Alpha Bay back in 2014.  That email included his first name and year of birth, and the authorities later found that he'd used the email for a PayPal account.

The problem is that these markets never expect to get so big, nor do they have so much initial investment.  So often their owners and workers are careless in the early days and they give away information that the authorities can start using even years later.

ChipMixer doesn't have millions to put aside to prepare for an influx of users either, which would explain why they're concerned about the recent influx of traffic.
chips you will withdraw now will be created after deposit which is one of the reasons why ChipMixer gives more privacy than other mixers. In this case, due to traffic, we could not offer that to you.
But if the level of traffic stays high for longer, you'll get back to normal, right?

I wanted to ask this too. Are there risks of ChipMixer possibly closing out too due to possible issues with the government in the future?

About BixMixer suggesting Zerocoin and Dash, I have a feeling that they were paid to endorse those coins. That's just me though.

Bitmixer was a massive outfit... If you read the closing down thread, Bitmixer claims their service was valued at 5-6 million... Shocked
I could sell the business for our competitors for $5-6M
BitMixer also says it mixed more than a million Bitcoins in 2016. At a minimum of 0.5% fee, that gives more than 5000 Bitcoin profit (minus costs of course). I didn't know mixing is such a big business.

First, due to unexpected amount of traffic, all prepared chips were withdrawn (there were not enough for this demand)
I've been wondering before, but I never asked: how much does ChipMixer have to work with? BitMixer had 2000+ Bitcoin at it's peak, with some very high volume customers. If ChipMixer has - say - 100 Bitcoins, and someone wants to mix 200, it's nice to know up front that won't be possible.
Also, if yesterday's ChipMixer users will get "newer" Bitcoins back, how do you guarantee they don't get their own Bitcoins back? Especially if you don't keep logs of who deposited which coins.

ChipMixer, have you considered adding a warrant canary? Some people are speculating that BitMixer was under pressure to shut down by a government, given that they suggested Zerocoin and DASH, which aren't very good for privacy (especially Zerocoin - ZCash is a lot better), instead of the better alternatives.

It would be good to have a "defense" against this type of thing, so your users can know if something happens.

This seems like a good idea. Otherwise we have no idea whether or not user info is being shared with governments. Obviously if the government starts to bait users publicly nobody will use the service but if in secret data can be be misappropriated.

I'd say that bitmixer definitely shut down because there was an increasing amount of pressure from governments tracking them down, and obviously they are indeed the leading bitcoin mixer at the time.

Hopefully Chipmixer can try to clear the image of a bitcoin mixer, so that it is not only used for buying drugs and whatnot but rather protecting your privacy when using bitcoin which is obviously a public ledger.

It would be good to have a "defense" against this type of thing, so your users can know if something happens.
After FBI operating child pornography website and darknet market Hansa for weeks, do you still believe warrant canaries? They do not play by the rules anymore.

But if the level of traffic stays high for longer, you'll get back to normal, right?
As long as we can predict the demand, we can prepare enough chips.

If ChipMixer has - say - 100 Bitcoins, and someone wants to mix 200, it's nice to know up front that won't be possible.
Our current highest size chip is 4.096 BTC so our recommended max amount per mix session is under 10 BTC. If you send more, instead of one confirmation required, we require 6 confirmations. 10 BTC is around $25,000. Mixing 200 BTC means mixing $500,000. Do you need to mix half a million in one transaction?

If there is a demand, we can add 8BTC, 16BTC, 32BTC chips.

Also, if yesterday's ChipMixer users will get "newer" Bitcoins back, how do you guarantee they don't get their own Bitcoins back? Especially if you don't keep logs of who deposited which coins.
There is no guarantee, there is chance and receipt. Chance means that if you send 1 BTC out of 100 BTC pool, you have 1/100 chance to receive the same coins. Even if you would receive the same, there would be no proof they are the same. It is like throwing a dollar into cup of dollars. Even if you pick the same one, they are fungible and there is no difference whenever you pick any of them. Receipt is a signed proof you have received funds from ChipMixer.

Hopefully Chipmixer can try to clear the image of a bitcoin mixer, so that it is not only used for buying drugs and whatnot but rather protecting your privacy when using bitcoin which is obviously a public ledger.
How would you do that?

Not me, I wish I had the kind of money problems in which I need to mix half a million dollars Wink
I've read about 1000+ Bitcoins being mixed at once at BitMixer, so some people would use it.

Because privacy matters.

I'm just going to quote here the "Why should I mix my coins?" page from the recent closed BitMixer.

Why should I mix my coins?

While using bitcoins is an excellent way to make your purchases, donations, and p2p payments, without losing money through inflated transaction fees, transactions are never truly anonymous. Bitcoin activities are recorded and available publicly via the blockchain; a comprehensive database which keeps a record of bitcoin transactions.

All exchanges require the user to scan ID documents, and large transactions must be reported to the proper governmental authority. When you use Bitcoin to pay for goods and services, you will of course need to provide your name and address to the seller for delivery purposes.

This means that a third party with an interest in tracking your activities can use your visible balance and ID information as a basis from which to track your future transactions or to study previous activity. In short, you have compromised your security and privacy.

To avoid this, we recommend using a quality mixing service such as the one we provide to periodically exchange your bitcoins for different ones which cannot be associated with the original owner. In order to further enhance the security of your transactions we provide the opportunity to use two or more forward addresses as well as convenient time delays. In addition, we immediately delete all archival logs related to your transactions.

<hint

Iran is not an option I guess, maybe in Panama or Hongkong are better. Not so sure about the regulations.

Since you've mentioned about darknet and FBI, makes me wonder in which country was Chip Mixer established?
There are some exchanges that avoid US regulations about high taxes and decided to move out of the state, and there maybe there are some countries that have less strict rules.
I do not recommend to move the Chipmixer base, but as long as we do such fair business without illegal activities such as money laundering, then it should be fine.
