Do people really don't know about SegWit or SegWit address?
I know I appeared in your list and you must be thought: "oh maroons!" I really didn't know that SegWit address starts from 3, I thought the point is not an ezchanger's address. But thanks to you I cleared up couple things to myself.

You are on a bitcoin forum and you don't know what segwit is?

I mean you're clearly not here to learn since you won't even google a word you don't know. I did an "I'm feeling lucky" on google and got this just searching segwit.

This goes for everyone else, if you can't even search google for basic bitcoin improvement protocols, you probably need not apply (don't post in a thread if you don't undertand the op).

It's worth noting that some multisig addresses can start with a 3 too so it's not just the segwit ones.

It's worth noting that some multisig addresses can start with a 3 too so it's not just the segwit ones.

I do not understand the need for some members to repeatedly repeat the same thing over and over regarding SegWit/Legacy address. Any user who posts their application for free spot in this campaign is disqualified himself at the very beginning if he/she do not know the difference between different address formats.

It is not only BTC SegWit or multisig addresses which can start with 3, Litecoin addresses can also start with 3.

You should also use Google sometimes to learn something instead of just accusing others of being ignorant. For example, did you learn something from this thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5043128.0

You showed "great knowledge" there about hardware wallets and forks...

Apologies to campaign manager DarkStar_ for off topic/but too much posts went in that direction.

In summary:

Addresses which start with "1" are P2PKH and are never Segwit.

Addresses which start with "bc1" are Bech32 and are always Segwit.

Addresses which start with "3" are P2SH and may or may not be Segwit. You can't tell for sure until coins from that address have been spent and you check the transaction's scripts.

Yeah. A lot of these comments are wasted on individuals who still have a gap in knowledge. It should be an implicit entry barrier.

It is not only BTC SegWit or multisig addresses which can start with 3, Litecoin addresses can also start with 3.
I don't see the purpose of this comment. When making this distinction, it might be relevant in the case of someone posting an address under the subtext of "Address" sans Bitcoin yet this is not the case.

Even if I think I'm a good member of the forum I'm disappointed by the fact that I'm in the first group of a kick out people from the final list.

Good luck for the final spot.

Cool mate! You are not on the list it doesn't mean you are bad member. DarkStar has not mention that who isn't in list they are bad member. Same as me, I am also not even on the waiting list. Probably we need improve more ourselves. Nothing here disappointed, there is only 2 spot but may be 50 peoples applied, so obviously manager will choose best one. We know different with Good, Better and Best.

Addresses which start with "3" are P2SH and may or may not be Segwit. You can't tell for sure until coins from that address have been spent and you check the transaction's scripts.

I think Coinpayment wallet could be use for SegWit address although its not native but SegWit (P2SH) address. Although previously coinpayment address starting with 3.. but that was not SegWit. But new all generated address are SegWit (P2SH). You can see on screenshot. They have noticed on old address but if you generate new address its automatically SegWit so there is no noticed.

So I think Coinpayment address could use for SegWit address.

1. It was introduced to reduce block sizes. The people that need to know about it are those who are sending dust frequently so we can keep the chain as free as possible.
2. Shitpost in the alts board if you want to talk about litecoin.
3. I’ve seen that hardware wallets aren’t waterproof, flash drives and solid state drives are... (although there’s no need to derail this thread further is there)?

3. You did not even bother to click on link I posted - you mix your answer with this thread guys iv dropped my trezor in a cup of coffee with that where you show "great knowledge" about HW and some other things.

1. Is this even an argument? It's not up to you either. If DarkStar has a problem with Jackg posting like that in this campaign thread, i'm pretty sure he would've noticed him about it/asked him to stop.

2. Because Litecoin has nothing to do with bitcoin/this campaign.

What was your point by mentioning this in the first place? It seems to me like you tried to assert some kind of dominance here by showing how much "you know". --  something that you're explicitely accusing jackg of doing?

Sounds quite hypocritical  Undecided Undecided.

Congratulations o_e_l_e_o. I think you are the youngest member ever to join the Chipmixer campaign. To be honest, this was once one of my secret ambitions back in 2017, until real life took over and I had to slack off from the forum a bit. I think those 895 merits were enough reason for Darkstar_ to make that extra spot. its kindda adorable and really cool that he/she/they do it from time to time when there is a rush of exceptional applications.

Darkstar_ and Chipmixer are one of the few true bitcoin champions that still remain at the forum. Nothing but professionalism, meritocracy and a decent dose of fun from the members. I once started a topic in the Ivory Tower about how we need the old members/ early adopters to really be the guiding stars. Don't consider this a shameless shill of that topic and please do visit and share your thoughts on what you think about it. I am sure we can come up with some good ideas or stories you know about the champions already.

Ohh and I can't express my happiness enough at the honorary mention. Thank You! Smiley

Once again derailed due by "Personal" life. Trying to claw my way back

I just wanted to emphasize that users of this forum who do not know the difference between SegWit and Legacy address format, can also post any other coin address which start with 3 thinking that it was a BTC SegWit address - since many of them are obviously very confused with many things which go beyond what is SegWit address and what is not.

Congratulations Lucius and oeleo.

Congrats too!

Both users deserve this spot! So, congrats Lucius and o_e_l_e_o, keep it up the great work and the nice quality posts.
The competition to join this campaign is getting harder each time, but this way this campaign get the best writers and that's fair.
Good luck for the next time for all the participants and don't give up, lets wait another spot opens soon.  Cheesy

Thank you all for your congratulations and good luck in your future applications Smiley

Yeah, a lot of people here make good posts. Great of DarkStar_ to add 3 instead of 2.

2 users left the campaign and one got negative trust from DT member. It is not the first time that DarkStar_ announce one or two free spots and accept one more extra user.

--  something that you're at the same time accusing jackg of doing?

Sounds quite hypocritical  Undecided Undecided.

I was pretty sure that you would come here, and just because of this thread.

1. If you have the will and time count how many time SegWit/Legacy problem is mentioned in this thread? So I have not seen and still do not see any sense to warn/learn user who apply for free spots regarding that - as I say before, they will disqualify themselves by their ignorance or carelessness. Also I am sure that DarkStar_ (at least you could write his name correctly) has more important things in life then to notice every user of this campaign what should and what not to do.

2. I'm guilty of mentioning LTC and number 3 - I've already been punished for that by some members - Lesson learned to never mention anything except BTC in this thread.

3. My point to mention this was only because I want to show that person who want to learn others about some things, have itself some problems to understand and apply some things which he advises to others. I never said I'm smarter and to have more knowledge then jackg, he is in general good poster, otherwise would not be part of this campaign.

If you think I'm hypocritical because of what I wrote in my previous posts this is your opinion. Whoever wanted to read and understand my intention in what I wrote can conclude otherwise, or not...

I echo Lucius in saying thanks to everyone and obviously thanks to DarkStar_, and good luck to you all for future slots.

I think you are the youngest member ever to join the Chipmixer campaign.

There could well have been other members in the past who joined with younger accounts, but even at present, both DdmrDdmr and iasenko have younger accounts than I do.

I don't think it really matters how young an account is, but what is the content of the posts, this is what is taken in consideration here.
I guess the merit plays a big role too same as the trust.

BTW, Congrats to the new members Smiley
