lol wtf 30 cents???

yeap mtgox is not bitcoin!!!1!11 there is not only one exchange rate in the world for bitcoin!

I also noticed in other context (e.g. social networking and diaspora) that there are many people who cannot really grasp the concept of decentralization. Evolution still has some work to do.  Lips sealed

It's not the main TED though.  This is a TED university session.  Had one at my University once a year ago.  Thnk they're generally called TEDx, rather than TED.

TEDx events are never listed at the main TED conference page. TED University seems to be: http://conferences.ted.com/TED2012/program/

‘Good Wife’ Watch: Jason Biggs, Jim Cramer and Bitcoin Get in on the Action

Mike Hale
2012-01-16

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/16/good-wife-watch-jason-biggs-jim-cramer-and-bitcoin-get-in-on-the-action/

It was a curious choice for “The Good Wife”: an episode built around an obscure digital currency called Bitcoin that many of the show’s viewers probably assumed was fictional. (If any Bitcoin evangelists find their way to this post, they can abuse me for calling the virtual money system, which went online in 2009, “obscure.”)

Perhaps this reviewer's perspective is how many regular viewers of The Good Wife will perceive the bitcoin aspect of the story.

‘The Good Wife’ Season 3, Episode 13, ‘Bitcoin for Dummies’: TV Recap

Susan Toepfer
2012-01-16

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/01/16/the-good-wife-season-3-episode-13-bitcoin-for-dummies-tv-recap/

"...a fairly low energy episode, requiring far too much attention to tedious detail..."

"... this incredibly uninteresting case..."

Susan Toepfer is Entertainment/Features Editor of More magazine, but judging by this quote, perhaps fashion is more her thing than storylines.

'The Good Wife' recap: Alicia versus the Internet

Meredith Blake
2011-01-16

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2012/01/the-good-wife-recap-alicia-versus-the-internet.html

Apparently, Bitcoin is actually a real thing, invented by someone with the possibly pseudonymous name of Satoshi Nakamoto. I was totally ignorant of this phenomenon until I googled it after the show, and the discovery makes me sympathize with Alicia when she tells Zach, “This stuff makes me feel so dated.”

Executive producers Robert and Michelle King must have anticipated this response from their audience, because the episode does, in fact, play rather like “Bitcoin for Dummies.” One of the things I like about “The Good Wife” is how it educates viewers about specific legal or political issues, but even still this episode veers too far into didacticism for my taste.

An interesting observation from this reviewer..

--I wonder why the writers didn’t bother to come up with a fake name for “Bitcoin,” the way they’ve done with “FaceBranch”and “FactSwim” in the past.
Presumably this is because there is no 'bitcoin' corporation to sue the producers Smiley

Bitcoin on TV! The Good Wife Riffs on Satoshi With ‘Mr. Bitcoin’

Adrianne Jeffries
2011-01-16

http://www.betabeat.com/2012/01/16/bitcoin-on-tv-the-good-wife-riffs-on-satoshi-with-mr-bitcoin/

The story went over well, for the most part, with the Bitcoin community; less so with The Good Wife community.

On Judge Neo's show tonight, at 11:30 pm, I was lucky enough to catch a little bit about Bitcoin.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'
