Additionally, to be objective, investing strategy should *probably* change with regards to some of these coins.

During the correction, Sub dropped by almost 40% from its ATH, while coins like SHIFT dropped 20%. It's clear which coins are based on hype and weak hands (which is fine - weak hands are also investors) who want to make a quick buck but get disillusioned quickly.

However, Sub also went up a lot because of the weak hands.

Therefore, Sub can actually be most profitable to those who know how to play/time the market - ride up a massive wave, and then sell at the top when things get unsustainable.

Just my 146 satoshis..
but where is the working product of SHIFT? cant find it. how many websites are hosted on SHIFT?

Umm... how about the Shift website itself..? See, that's the point. Blind money, all hype, and you don't know about alternatives.

That's OK though.. I have to accept that the market is changing. People who chase the hype and shiny polished websites and marketing ads may get better returns now...

EDIT: And this is not an "if". Cardano, TRX, XRP (never been used by a bank, despite all the "partnerships") are examples of the "new wave" of coins, it seems.
They have undoubtedly been very successful without any products. So I accept that Sub can get up there with them as well (with a little luck as well).
So i can download the SHIFT program to host websites? i cant find it on the site. id like to test it.

You can currently upload only static websites to Shift testnet Phanthom. They will soon introduce dynamic support (dynamic website is for example this forum).

You don't need to download any program to host the website.Register and login to Shift testnet wallet https://wallet.testnet.shiftnrg.org/ and try it out (Applications--> Phantom). Also, new Shifts website is hosted on the Phantom and it's amazing fast! Smiley + They expanded their team (dev and marketing) and Isabella from Lisk joined the team and that's a big deal!

I will stay away from SUB as it's pure hype, there is zero code, December 2017 deadline for beta wasn't meet and the founders have a criminal history..

I mean, I have to admit that hype isn't necessarily bad anymore for money-making, but THANK YOU for seeing my point about it being ONLY hype.

These people have taken millions and millions of dollars (unnecessary amount of money) from an ICO, and can't even get their basic stuff together. Just marketing and promises.

Again, it MAY VERY WELL WORK AND BE SUCCESSFUL. But compare it to the SHIFT team - they had no money, no ICO, started out with nothing but a group of hard-working devs who created something good and working.

Also, I'd like you to explain - how do the Substratum founders have a criminal record? I didn't know about that.

OK, so I have to respond to this, based on my own research...

(1) The CEO said he beat up a guy decades ago for sexually harassing his sister. He got charged for it, but it was really a "bad" thing. That's his story at least. He got charged with a bunch of things for that.
While we don't know what really happened, what we should know is that in the United States, thanks to Bill and Hillary Clinton, you can never escape a criminal record - it stays with you wherever you go, and for any reason. Even if what you did was morally justified.

(2) Marijuana possession crimes aren't really taken seriously...

Now let's get real... with the real facts

(3) DataDash, youtuber who can influence markets, was PAID 200K SUBSTRATUM (a couple thousand dollars at the time) to talk about Substratum in one of his videos. It means that they bribed someone for marketing/publicity, not on the merit of their non-existent coin/platform.

This is what I mean by ICO/millions of dollars of marketing: Teams like SHIFT, with better product (well, actually just a product that exists) and better workers, but no money, don't have the ability to bribe crypto celebrities to mass-market their coin.

Nevertheless, word gets out eventually, but it takes a lot longer, which gives the undervaluation.

(4) A quote from reddit, which is factually correct:

"It's easy to tear down the paper tigers. However, only one sentence at the end gives any time to the real issues at hand. We are being told the finished product will have:

*Distributed web with dynamic content
*Anonymity better than Tor (BTW, this is totally ridiculous - it would mean that Sub would be better than virtually all the privacy tokens out there...)
*Visibility of in-network anonymous hosts from outside via regular URLs
*Ability to evade ISP / state firewalls
*Developer platform for additional features on top of nodes
*Cross-crypto payment gateway
*IoT

Entire projects with larger teams are focused on only one topic above. Substratum is telling us they're doing it all.
We have no code and no one even going so far as to anonymously acknowledge being in private testing."

There are so many reasons to be sketchy about the project.

Yet, despite that, in the crazy world of crypto, it could work out perfectly...

BTW, the fact that these guys are promising "anonymity better than Tor" is absolutely ludicrous.

It would mean that, without ANY of the other things they promised, that they would be BETTER THAN MONERO (rank top 15). They would be the #1 PRIVACY COIN (better than any of the coins that are specially made for privacy, with larger and more skilled teams), for a coin that is not even made to be a privacy coin primarily!

I find this insulting, because I have investments in privacy coins that dedicate their entire team to pure privacy and nothing else. They deliver, of course (SpectreCoin), and you have people paying people to spread the word that they will be much better without even prioritizing such an issue.

The other things they promised, I'm not really so sure about. I just know that "anonymity better than Tor"... definitely not going to happen with such stretched out priorities.

Same as Sub then:

Q: Does it work?

A: In Alpha I we proved we can route requests using our network of nodes and render requests through the #Substratum network.

Sometimes I don't understand their plans and ideas, like how decentralized browser is going to remove FUD, but I love community and their professional marketing. Sell done, SUB! Keep doing!

Shift can be tested by yourself and not like in SUB: heey we proved we can redirect some DNS. LOL boom some youtube videos and you guys bite the hook.

Till now they provided zero evidence of their work..only some videos that show zero code work..

Also, Shifts Phanthom is on testnet because of testing it's stability and finding potential bugs and it's publicly avaiable

Shift just relies on fanboys having to post in ever possible topic they can instead. If you want to do a comparison between the two make a thread about it on altcoin DISCUSSIONS, the people in this one only care about Sub related news.

The time to buy Sub is before they release the next step in their development, especially with the price coming down over a dollar from all-time highs.

Plus, this isn't some sort of speculative coin, like most coins out there. The actual crypto has a use-case, and you can get passive income doing nothing once the Sub network is up just by letting it run while you're inactive (it will even run while you're active, just not at full capacity).

This is a 100% speculative coin.

1. We don't know if the Devs are capable of delivering

2. We have not seen any sort of technical discussion. This community is full of Lambo and Moon talks.

3. There is no working product yet.

I find it weird coming back here (since I said I was gone), but I guess I actually have to defend Substratum (price potential) right now...

I have found that many "technical" coins that are really the best don't get the recognition their tech deserves, since the market is changing. Instead of the tech-focused people we had two years ago (when I first got involved), we now have people who buy into whatever is hyped up the most, or gets the flashiest marketing.

As a result, coins like Sub go up quite a bit (although we're still in the middle of a mass-market correction).

However, this also means that investing strategy needs to be rethought - personally I will always invest mainly in the objectively best coins, the ones the have a product, and perhaps also masternodes or PoS (which are both passive income - there is nothing new here), but I am starting to rethink the price potential of coins like Substratum, which are based on hype.

That's partially why I chose to invest in it in the first place.

Hype and FOMO are powerful factors in investing, and can drive up prices faster than you can believe.

Anyways... we will see...

I agree completely. We are getting a new wave of investors who are not technically sound. Housewives, middle-aged men, business people. They do not understand tech. The key to getting 500% gains every month only requires ambitious promises, some buzzwords and aggressive marketing.

I have changed my investment strategy also. Whitepaper or source code reviews are not required anymore.

Same thing is happening with Oysters, and a bunch of other alts.

You don't know how retarded investors are these days. They will sell at a 30% loss for no reason whatsoever other than the fact they feel bad or didn't get enough sleep.

The SUB and PRL sellers who are driving the price down? Complete fools.

Or market manipulators. Take your pick... couldn't they have sold at $3?

Really all alt coins are a gamble... We just have to have faith in the developers, and programmers of the selected poison of our choice! Substratum is a choice for real change, not just a quick buck....

The price would likely be well over $5.00 by now if there weren't so many weak hands dumping their SUB for a quick buck. Such people are a stain on the market. Then they cry later because they sold too early. Exchanges should have rules to keep this kind of thing from happening, maybe have higher fees to get people to hold on to their coins longer, and reward them with lower fees for holding for a specified time.
