WARNING: WINDOWS BINARIES MAY CONTAIN STEALTH MINER

I recently realized my laptop's cpu was running at 100% and my cpu fans were spinning up at the same speeds and making the exact same sounds as it does when I am running pooler's cpuminer on my laptop. After closing doubloons (which was using the lion's share of my windoze box cpu) my cpu usage dropped to 2%.

I am opening the binaries in a hex editor qt-creator now to try and confirm that it contains the stealth miner, if I can confirm I will come back and post proof. If I can not confirm, I will come back and update that as well, but in the meantime, beware someone maybe stealing your hash cycles.

The source code seems clean, my linux box is running fine which contains binaries I built myself from source, doubloons is using less than 1% cpu.

I apologize, I was mistaken. The issue is actually being caused by JunkCoin.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

If it's clean, that's even worse. I usually run 8-12 different *coin clients at any given time (I currently have six running with less than 10% cpu usage) and I have never had this problem.

I am still checking the binaries myself to confirm either way because there is SOMETHING up with this coin, my laptop cpu has ONLY ever run like this when using pooler's cpuminer on max intensity.

I am not understanding how being clean is worse? must be a language barrier but clean=no issues and your problem must be either user error or something wrong with your laptop

I have had zero issues with the Windows client from tyrion from the beginning, but if you're worried, build from source. As is always the case with these community items (and WINDOWS!) Smiley

...pooler's cpuminer on max intensity.

wait, there's an -I setting for cpuminer? What is it?

I am not understanding how being clean is worse? must be a language barrier but clean=no issues and your problem must be either user error or something wrong with your laptop

I use this laptop for video/audio editing, gaming (TF2, E.Y.E., L4D2, Eve Online, used to play CoH and CoV - all of these I would play in stereoscopic 3D via iz3d driver) and my laptop CPU has NEVER run at 100% like this except when running pooler's cpuminer.

I say it's worse because, if the code is clean and it is driving my cpu to 100% when I can normally run 8 - 10 *coin clients at any given time at less than 10% cpu usage, then it is obviously VERY poorly coded.

Technically no. Unless you have multiple cores or you use pooler's webminer.

For cpuminer, if you have multiple cores, the "-t" flag will allow you set to set the number of cores (threads) you desire to use.

For the webminer you can actually define a percentage value.

Nice, thanks for that, I wondered if you could set that for a bit more KH/s from the cpus. Downer to hear about your win-qt issues Sad

I withdraw my complaint. It seems that it was JunkCoin driving my cpu to 100%. My sincerest apologies. I will move my complaint there now.

I will also edit my original post here to reflect my mistake.

The plot thickens...

It seems that the problem only occurs when I am running:

Bitgem + Doubloons + JunkCoin + Powercoin.

If I close any one of these cpu usage drops to 2 - 7% but when I re-open it cpu usage immediately jumps back to 100% and stays there.

I can run:

Bitcoin + Litecoin + LQC + PPC + TRC + FRC + BQC + RUC + TBX + FBX + BTE + Chrome + QT-Creator + Bitvise SSH +MSE and I still don't reach 100%, but if I close ALL of those and run only Bitgem + Doubloons + JunkCoin + Powercoin I get 100% cpu usage instantaneously. Something is up with these clients.

I'm trying to set up pool for doubloons. Currently it is not functional - shares are not added correctly or even incorrectly Wink.
I'm just learning how to read map and where good ports to loot are, you know;)
Looking for some crew for tests. I'll pay some doubloons just if you connect and stay for a while so i have some data in mysql table

If you are using windows, check the task manager and see which application is causing the problem. You may need to check the processes tab as well.

LOL, what kind of n00b do you think I am...? I am an advanced linux (preference for Debian 6.0 distro with no Gnome) and windoze user as well as a capable programmer and web coder. I assure you, I know how to use my computers beyond pressing the "power" button.

What I am telling you is that the combination of running those 4 clients together causes my laptop to react in the same exact manner as when pooler's cpuminer is running. It is not one single client/program causing the issue, it is the combination of those 4.

If you read my post again, you will see that I can run 11 different *coin clients + 4 other user programs without my cpu going to 100%. But if I run just those 4 coin clients together (it MUST be ALL 4 clients run together) it causes 100% cpu usage.

There is clearly something up with these clients.

I didn't mean to offend, but if something is up causing 100% CPU load from that combination of clients, then the computer should be able to say *which* process is using the CPU power. Unless they all are reading ~25% each, which would be even stranger.

I apologize for my sharp answer, I didn't understand the scope of your question as the info I had provided came from task manager, it's just that it felt like calling tech support with an advanced question and the guy on the other end replying with "Is the computer plugged in, sir...?", lol... I am very sorry about that.

But in answer to your question, here is what is happening:

If I open all 4, they each use roughly 22 - 23%, but if I close any one of them the others drop back to 2% or less, this is why I find it suspicious. I apologize for not including that information earlier and I apologize again for my sharpness.    Embarrassed
