Yes, waves are really good coins to invest in 2018.
with various updates and the addition of current fiture, waves may someday be parallel to the ETH.

Here are the list of my top 5 cryptocurrencies to invest this coming year 2018:

1. BTC ; Since it is always best to invest in bitcoin as far as the market go.
2. Waves ; It might be the same as Ripple since most it are used in banks but using it is much easier.
3. Omisego ; A coin to be used mostly on food is also a good coin to invest.
4. Monero ; This coin is always on the top I don't see any problem investing on it.
5. Ethereum ;  It is widely used nowadays and it is better to have one for future transactions.

My last tip in investing in any alt-coin is always wait for the dip and HODL!

I would invest in these five coins + into Bitcoins (base): Deeponion (a new perspective coin).
I would also buy Waves. Some POS coins, for example  Pivx or Ethereumdark (new POS coins) and I would definitely invest in Ethereum.

Electroneum for sure. Great potential, price right now (with 40% bonus and 1% if you have a referral code) is around 0.0067$ per ETN. I estimate that within a year the price will go 0.3-0.4$ which is definitely a great potential. We have seen a lot of other coins who don't deserve it to get 10x,20x, why not Electroneum that has already a finished product and a stable idea?

WAVES coin is really on talk whole the year, so much expectations! Even I have bought some coins, I hope to get at least x10 from this investment, but the price is raising too slow

Seriously look into Ardor. It will be a strong competitor to Ethereum once it finally get up and running. It officially starts up pretty soon and 2018 will be a great year of growth on it. Thats my pick for sure and what I am doing.

Imo the best risk-reward coins for mid/long-term (buy and HODL)

1. Bitcoin (BTC): once the real institutional money flows in (ETFs), most of it will go to BTC, raising the price a lot. 10k
2. ETH: solid team, a lot of companies are invested in it. Once POS mining kicks in and more and more companies run products/projects on it the demand will be huge.
3. OMG: huge potential, solid team. Might be best positioned to become the first REAL large-scale crypto payment provider that the regular people will start using.
4: ICN (Iconomi): all devs will get all their ICN tokens, voting rights will be introduced for ICN holders. I think the ICN price is artificially low in order to have cheap buybacks. The price will blow up after October 2018 I think.
5: NEO: This is the most risky bet. If China allows ICOs again, they'll want to have them on a Chinese platform. NEO seems the logical candidate. Will be the Chinese Ethereum...
