O boy, that's quite some loss.
Id like to know how such occurrences can be prevented considering i'm a newbie; How does one know there's a keylogger malware in his system and what are the possible ways to counter it.
I'm really sorry for your loss.

You can sign your transactions offline. I have an offline laptop dedicated to this and I sleep well at night knowing that no piece of advanced malware will be able to sweep my private keys, since they never even touch my online computer.

i always do a secure erase before putting and moving my cold storage on my desktop, so you are sure that your pc is clean, maybe could be a bit overkill but with bitcoin you never know

I bought my first few Bitcoins in 2012; eventually I got around 100 and managed to hold most of them until this point. Yesterday they were stolen from me. Shortly after I made a transaction, I left my PC with Electrum open, I believe there was a key logger waiting for me to type my password as when I returned an hour later, I saw my account had been emptied.

This happened shortly after receiving my hardware wallet (ledger), which I never got round to filling up. Obviously storing £350k(that hurts to type) on my daily computer was a moronic thing to do.

See the transaction here: https://blockchain.info/tx/220caec53bac39cc1a2d2692eecd385bca796fc1a839254ddd622b911344ae97

The Bitcoins were then split and are currently residing at these two addresses:
https://blockchain.info/address/18JCmLzKQoZydXspc6CPwovWVwYtUT7DCx
https://blockchain.info/address/16YiXuw4eaFVvpyhX7mYufwsj77LHrydUx
https://blockchain.info/address/18ZnbD5JQwdEJRwKrb34nXPu7J6pHN1CMR

I know I wont get these Bitcoins back but if anyone knows of a blockchain or malware analysis service or just want to give me advice, I would appreciate it.

Sorry for your loss. It's really hard to get them back in this case. Could it be done by someone you are familiar with?

I am very sorry for your loss... ( sigh ) that is one of the many risks we investors have to take specially as we use internet as our playing field, some turn this advantage as an opportunity to scam others.

I'll lose my mind if that happen to me. It's a good sign that you still talk to others after that because it just mean that you are a strong person.

If you want to have a cold storage for your bitcoin then it is not about the storage in pc because it is still risky because your pc is connected in the internet and the best thing to do is to have an offline wallet like paper wallets and hardware wallets that will secure your bitcoin well because they are not connected to internet so the hackers cannot access it but you only.

if you do a secure erase it will be clean anyway, so you can import your cold storage safely

This is not the first tragic story I have heard since when the bitcoins became popular. It is so sad to think that whenever there is money, there are also thieves. To prevent this from happening again, I advise to everyone to use offline wallets. Your personal computers are prone to mischief like keylogger. You should also be aware of the things you download and the programs that are installed in your computer.

Sorry to hear your lost.  It is such nerve racking considering that you lost that very huge amount of bitcoin.  1btc is really high in value and you lost 95 of it.  You must be really rich by that.  It would be hard to trace where it goes.  Let just karma hunt that culprit.

It will be hard to follow the news when you see articles saying how much bitcoin has risen in value. Get an investigator to check it out and hope for the best.

That 95 Bitcoin that was very big the hacker that stole your Bitcoin are now Enjoying their life with your money. I don't know how'd you get the keylogger but always make sure that if you have lots of Bitcoin 1 Bitcoin or above make sure that your PC/Mobile Phone or any devices you are using for your coins are CLEAN, FRESHLY FORMAT and NO SOFTWARE DOWNLOADED besides the Bitcoin wallet that you have. That's what i've been doing i have an DELL Laptop i don't have downloaded programs on that only the Bitcoin Wallet.
Personally I think that if a person holds one or more bitcoin that person needs to have a trezor or a paper wallet, maybe we do not think of one bitcoin as a lot of money but one bitcoin is enough to live for the whole year in some poor countries so it is obvious cyber criminals will want to steal it.

Sorry to hear about that. Hackers suck and are scum if they emptied your account. Well at least you are warning others about keylogger virus that could potentially be in your pc.

That was a large ammount of bitcoin you have and it made you as a target of some hackers.Have you already checked if there's really a keylogger?Try using some antivirus as it really tracks if you have one.You also should've seperated your bitcoins into different wallets so that if you loss one you will stil have some.

I'm so sorry for you but this will teach you something. Security is the most important thing when managing coins (FIAT or crypto doesn't mind).

You should now prevent that those thing will happen again.
I'm sorry it happened and we do not want to lose like that, be careful and always close our account is the best thing besides using a password that is difficult to secure our account
