Its good to hear this news about IFC and see that we can rely on developers help.
Shame that Cryptsy didnot inform anybody and didnot even react on my question so I must find the answer here.

I am sure it will help the coin and when it returns to cryptsy it will become a rolling stone and rise a lot in value. I believe IFC still offers many new excellent features with comparison to other coins.
It can easily grow even more than it did in August.

RoadTrain, using last 2 blocks you can't guarantee the average block time meets your target time. Yes I agree with you that using 120 blocks causing some oscillations, altho it is a smooth one. With the current algo the average block time is met perfectly. It is not the exact PPCoin formula, as it is applied to the 120 block time.

There will be some improvements to decrease the oscillations. But the algo for its purpose meet its target, so it is a correct one, although there will be some improvements to it.

The 30 is not the last 30 blocks, think it more a damping factory towards the target.

You can't guarantee anything in any case. PPC's algo is designed that the difficulty converges towards the target immediately. Your algo also makes the difficulty converge, though with unnecessary lag and oscillations because of this 'window'.

My opinion is that pure PPC's approach is better, that's what I wanted to say.

Well, 1 block may cause some random movement just because of variance, but the main idea is that over time the average will converge to the target. Given that the interval in PPC is a week, one random move doesn't really matter, while steady moves will eventually adjust the target to the needed value.

In case of IFC's fast blocks I think something in the range of 2-5 would be a good solution, and to decrease randomness you can also increase the "damping" interval.

Yup, the damping should be really hard, because with fast blocks the adjustment comes a lot faster than in PPC. If the damping is hard enough, these fluctuations won't really matter.

Version 1.8 is released. This version uses last block interval and PPCoin algorithm for retargeting, instead of 120-block data. This will eliminate the oscillation that causes some miners to jump in and out. The switch will happen at block 272000, which is about 2 to 2.5 days from now (we are at block 265728). Version 1.8 also added new checkpoints to secure the blockchain.

The upgrade is mandatory, please upgrade as soon as possible. Hopefully this is the last upgrade for a while. Thanks for your understanding.

The download links are updated for windows client and source. After upgrade you can verify the version by checking Help->About Infinitecoin at your Qt client.
