Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

2020 is (finally🤪🤞🙄) coming to an end.

Let's take a moment to reflect on it  ⛏💰
▪️How was mining for you this year?
▪️What were your biggest wins/losses?
▪️What is going on with the market and where is it heading next?

Let's learn from the mistakes of the past and prepare for the future together 💪

We ask you to answer these and other questions in a short survey for miners: https://www.survio.com/survey/d/hiveos

🔎 With your help, we will conduct research and find out the following:
✔️ what prevented profitable mining in 2020
✔️ what useful life hacks did miners use
✔️ what mining tactics should be followed in 2021

We will collect all the useful information from novice miners and owners of the largest farms, and share it with you.

📍We are waiting for your answers until December 20, 2020 inclusive.
Let's get ready for 2021 together! 💪😎

I have problem with wifi connection.
When I first time start rig, I enter wifi command and type my SSID and password and it connects to internet and starts mining.
But after a restart, it won't no longer connect to internet via wifi.
I am using TP-Link TL-WN822N V4.0.
I found that solution is to add command:
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

to /etc/network/interfaces.
When I type /etc/network/interfaces on my rig, I get error: Permission denied.
Can someone explain to me how to access to /etc/network/interfaces through HiveOS?
Thank you.

0.6-182@201214 🐧

What's new?

SYSTEM 🖥
✅ Introduced auto-switching between Hive API servers (agent will try switch to mirrors when network errors occur; net-test updated to show current API server)
⚙️ Improved selfupgrade tool (added new option -g, --grub to update only grub config to add/remove custom options; don't start miner if it was not run before selfupgrade; show hello output only on error)
⚙️ Improved software watchdog (changed behavior on system with high LA; using fast reboot method on system with high LA; fixed/disabled GPU check on maintenance mode)
⚙️ Improved amd-info tool (added memory type/vendor info)
🐞 Fixed sreboot (use improved reboot on system with high LA)
🐞 Fixed amd-oc (fixed errors on GPUs prior AMD Polaris)
🐞 Fixed gpu-stats (stopped fans were shown as 100% on some AMD GPUs)
🐞 Fixed 3rd-party hardware support (coolbox: fix getting firmware version after firmware update)
⚙️ Other small system fixes & improvements (fixed miner status; updated motd to show a minimalistic message on high LA)

MINERS👷‍♂️
PhoenixMiner v5.4b (new kernels for AMD Vega and Navi GPUs that are slightly faster when the DAG buffer is approaching or passing 4GB in size - work on AMD drivers 20.10+; re-running auto-tune as needed when switching to a different DAG buffer type, e.g. when switching from ETH to ETC, or back; other small fixes and improvements)
TeamRedMiner v0.7.20 (ethash: added default capped DAG allocation for 4GBs at 4072MB, see '--eth_4g_max_alloc'; ethash: bugfix for crashes using '--eth_dag_cache' on 4GB GPUs)
NBMiner v35.0 (added statistics for invalid shares on ethash; added statistics for Health information of AMD GPU; more detailed error information of OpenCL API; reduced CPU usage)
GMiner v2.34 (added DAG check after generation for Ethash and ProgPoW/KAWPOW algorithms, this feature help to detect overclock issues; decreased stale share percentage on ProgPoW/KAWPOW algorithms; improved AMD support)
T-Rex v0.19.4 (changes for 0.19.3&0.19.4: improved octopus performance 1-2% on some configurations; reduced the amount of invalid shares on ethash and octopus; added --no-hashrate-report parameter to disable hashrate reporting to the mining pool; added --keep-gpu-busy parameter to continue mining even in case of connection loss: useful if pausing GPUs causes instability. Notes: Removed display of invalid shares as it confused users due to the fact that it contained not only invalid shares until the moment when T-Rex will provide this functionality in the API. Users who want to see rejected shares in the context of the GPU can add the option in miner extra config "report_rejected_per_gpu": true)
NanoMiner v3.1.4 (fixed stability issue with AMD RX 5700 mining Ethash)
SRBMiner-Multi v0.5.9 (fixed a bug on 'randomx' algorithm that could cause miner to create invalid shares for some jobs; removed algorithms: 'cryptonight_bbc', 'cryptonight_catalans'; bug fixes)
WildRig-Multi v0.28.2 (x11k algo will use the same algo for devfee, this should improve miner stability on some cards; option --print-devices now will print busID)
CPUMiner-Opt-rplant v5.0.1 (added automatic selection of the nearest working stratum and switching on errors; improved yescrypt/yespower; fixed latency display; many other improvements and bug fixes)
CPUMiner-Opt-JayDDee v3.15.3 (various improvements and optimizations)

That's a good question.
You can still update. I believe it's the kernel that needs to be in the beta. I was also previously under the impression that if I were to update that my 5700 cards wouldn't be recognized. That's not the case. For NAVI cards you just need the beta image for the OS afterwards you can update as needed. As far as I can tell anyway.

With newest kernel I had to update AMD drivers to 20.20, to get 5600xt and 5700 working.

Code:
miner stop
cd hive-drivers-pack
wget https://download.hiveos.farm/drivers/amdgpu-pro-20.20-1089974-ubuntu-18.04.tar.xz
tar -Jxvf amdgpu-pro-20.20-1089974-ubuntu-18.04.tar.xz
cd amdgpu-pro-20.20-1089974-ubuntu-18.04
./amdgpu-pro-install -y --opencl=pal,legacy
reboot

That should work.

🚒 Attention miners with 4GB AMD cards

Hello Hivers!  🤝

Last night, Ethereum reached epoch 382🔥
Almost all available memory in the GPU is occupied by the DAG file.
AMD 4GB GPUs owners which ignored our previous recommendations could experience problems with stopping mining, constant reboots of the miner or rig due to the inability to start mining.

What you can do?
Mining Ethereum on 4GB GPUs almost over but still possible for next 1-3 weeks and reasonable because it's profitability is higher than other coins which you can mine on your 4GB AMD GPUs.
🎉 You'll need 2 things:
1) Use the latest Hive OS Stable Image 📀
To update your image, you can either download it and flash it to your storage device or if you have adequate internet speeds you can to use the hive-replace command instead, by SSH'ing in / Hive Shell and running hive-replace -y --stable

2) Use the latest miner versions
Our recommendations: TeamRedMiner, lolMiner or PhoenixMiner with special configuration strings which allow mining ETH in "Zombie mode" with some reducing hashrate by 5% with every next epoch.

Usually, the latest versions of this miners can do it automatically but on practice, manual mode gives better results.
Add following strings to miner extra configuration:
* TeamRedMiner: --eth_4g_max_alloc=4078
* lolMiner:  --4g-alloc-size 4078
* PhoenixMiner:  -daglim 4078

Also, you can try in the range from 4068 to 4080 with step 2.
- Higher values give better hashrate but can significantly reduce stability.
- It may also be necessary to reconsider overclocking or at least decrease the value tREF, adjust core voltage, reduce memory clock, etc.
- You can control available GPU memory with amd-info after mining started.

Anyway, we glad to invite you to switch for mining ETC on our Hiveon ETC pool (while difficulty isn't too high 😉).

SSH disabled for user root on most Ubuntu based system. If you feel that it secure for you can enable it sshd_config file first

Quote
Enable root login over SSH:
As root, edit the sshd_config file in /etc/ssh/sshd_config : nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config.
Add a line in the Authentication section of the file that says PermitRootLogin yes . ...
Save the updated /etc/ssh/sshd_config file.
Restart the SSH server: service sshd restart.

There is an odd thing i have with hiveos
Right now i use srbminer to mine xhv
I config the watchdog hashrate like if a card down reboot the system
My problem is one card gone off but the watchdog does not work
Because the report hashrate does not drop
