What are the benefits for acquiring these accounts?

For the glory. The higher the rank the fewer restrictions you have.

Signature:

- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 50 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 150 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Its just activity, see the formula you linked. Its boild down to 3 basic steps:

the first major reduction to 75-30 seconds once your activity is over 14, but still not 60 or higher
the second reduction to 30-27 seconds once your activity is 60 or higher, but still not 100 or higher
the third reduction to 12-4 seconds once your activity is 100 or higher.

Once you reached 500 actitivty you will be stuck at a 4 second limit, which I notice once in a blue moon.

....and if I can add one thing: to scam the other users, because an high (and trusted) account will give you the possibilty to scam an other user in the easiest and imaginable way. However the first benefit is the signature as hilariousandco said in his post.

Your post count is not stuck at 322, it is you activity count which is at 322.
Wait till 26th May for it to change.

Just had a quick look - the hero member activity point threshold is 480.
That'll take me forever god damn it.
Legendary is even longer, that'll take some dedication.
Oh well I imagine I'll be around here for some time 
I know it's sad but it is quite nice when you sign in to an upgraded membership status 
Maybe bitcoin will be 10,000 USD by the time I reach legendary (fingers crossed).

Random question (No real reason for it, just my own curiosity).

Will there ever be an additional member group added past Legendary?
I know there are Donator & VIP tags but I mean literally just via posting not donating?
Maybe a Greek God (something stupid like that) tag added for members who have been here for 10 years or more (when that timescale has passed).

Sorry for the stupid question any way guys, it just crossed my mind.

I think theymos has mentioned new ranks may be added in the future (both donation and regular ranks) but I don't think they're needed yet or are a priority. Maybe a lesser donator rank like 'contributer' could be added for donations of 1btc or to keep it fair peg it to $100 worth of btc or something. Can't see many people even donating that though to be honest.

The next activity increase is next Tuesday - 23rd June so you should be on 28 then.
It's weird when you're brand new, it goes up quicker but it should be 14 points every 2 weeks for you now starting Tuesday 23rd June providing you've made 14 or more posts in that period.
Time will fly by, you'll be a full member before you know it I still feel like a noob looking at Legendary members with 1000+ activity points Those damn uber early adopters

480 activity seems so far away for me though I'm only on 294. It'll be worth the wait when I get upgraded though. Legendary Member status is like 3 years altogether isn't it? Now that is a long time, pure dedication.

Time actually seems to pass by pretty quickly when you look back. Assuming that you're active for the 3 years you should be legendary by then.
As far as I know when it was introduced there was about ~200 legendary members. I would say 3 to 4 hundred right now?
