I heard there are around 500k active accounts now on Bitcointalk.

Anybody know roughly how many of these are Legendary?

And what does one have to do to get a legit one-off name and rank?  Kinda like Satoshi but better.  Thx!

Cheers!

A forum search[1] for "legendary" by position (and no other boxes checked) returns 18 pages with 30 each and a 19th with 26 so 566 in total.

the staff and VIP/donator users don't get listed there though.

@Vlad2Vlad
you can't get a unique rank. but can set a custom title for yourself if you're VIP (not sure but maybe donator too).

edit:
actually I'm not even sure if you can become VIP/Donator anymore. someone should try it.  Tongue

Where do we find the donation figure. I think 50 bitcoin donation is too much. That was when the bitcoin price was low.

Where do we find the donation figure.

For "VIP" level?  It's 50 BTC.

If you want "Donator" level, then it's 10 BTC.

You can find the figures here:
https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html

I think 50 bitcoin donation is too much.

You can think whatever you want, but those with VIP made a 50 BTC donation.  That's 50 BTC they could have in their wallet today if they hadn't donated.  Why should you get to give less than them?

That was when the bitcoin price was low.

Yes, and now the exchange rate has changed. That doesn't mean that you should get special treatment.

I can't imagine many people become 'VIP' donators these days. Donating 50 bitcoin's back in 2011 or 2012 is one thing. Donating 50 bitcoin's at the current price would be moronic as you don't get any real benefits that justify losing that much money.

The VIP header is hardly a standout.  For 50 BTC I'd want a neon sign or a unique one-off header.

In a month or two I'm gonna have to have a sit-down with my old buddy, Theymos.  lol

Lol.  As if the exchange rate is somehow irrelevant.  There's a very sound argument to be made that donating 50$ (or whatever 50BTC was worth at the time) and getting VIP is special treatment if today you have to donate something like a quarter of a million dollars (or whatever it is now) to get the same title.

In my opinion, forum badges are hardly worth worrying over.  But, on the other hand, it's quite clear that no one is going to pay 50BTC for a forum badge, and perhaps some people would pay 50$.  I'm guessing what's going on here is that the forum no longer needs to raise money.

Feels like I have been a Full Member for a long time. I know there are lots of Hero & Legendary Members around but I can't wait to upgrade my rank to Senior Member. It's the first rank that doesn't feel like a total n00b any more.

There are only about 500 Legendary members out of over 500,000.

I badly wanna stay special so we'll have to concoct some clever scheme to maintain the status quo.

Clearly a violation of Satoshi's principles but hey, we're not perfect; I for one will find some way to cope.  Smiley

Don't worry, not all of those 500k people are gonna be legendary. I think only 4k of it are gonna make it to legendary status Tongue
Most of those ID probably will be abandoned or it might receive negative trust for violating rules (Somehow)

But if you're still paranoid about it maybe we can propose a new higher rank than Legendary Tongue
Super Legendary: This rank can be achieved between 1500 and 2500 activity
That way you can still feel special again in another 3 years Grin

I doubt it, there are only so many even today.

There have been various rank suggestions so far, but theymos does not feel like another rank is necessary at the moment. Maybe sometime in the future indeed.

Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.

Oops, I've been thinking we earn a max of 14 activity points every 2 weeks and been saying the same to everyone. So we get only a max of 1 activity point per day? ouch Grin

Activity = min(time * 14, posts)
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration

But What does min stand for in this equation?

Also to increase my activity by maximum of 14 within 2 weeks does it make any difference to my activity whether those posts are all in 1 day or 1 every day or 2 every other day etc..

Thanks - A very New Newbie

Activity = min(time * 14, posts)
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration

But What does min stand for in this equation?

"min(x,y)" is developer language for "the minimum of x and y (whatever has the lowest value)".

so min(2 * 14, 6) would return as 6
simpler version would be: Max Activity = time * 14 .

Also to increase my activity by maximum of 14 within 2 weeks does it make any difference to my activity whether those posts are all in 1 day or 1 every day or 2 every other day etc..

no.
