The activity number is determined in this way: time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration activity = min(time * 14, posts) Activity is updated every hour. The new membergroup limits work like this: Group | Requirement | Brand New | 0 posts | Newbie | (none) | Jr. Member | activity: 30 | Member | activity: 60 | Full Member | activity: 120 | Sr. Member | activity: 240 | Hero Member | activity: 480 |
I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs. If the rule still works?

The great part about the way activity works is it rewards me for all the time spent lurking I have had this account since November, but just recently started posting a lot. My activity has gone up by more than 60 in the past 3 weeks

Merely lurking won't get you the activity points, but like above said, it will if you made at least one post in every of the two week periods as you'll then be able to collect all the full points as you post. He signed up a couple of days before me so you would become a Snr.

It does just take time. Which is a predictable cost, but one that can't changed or circumvented. You could try and bribe theymos, but... yeah, I don' think that'll accomplish a lot!

It would probably be helpful for new people (who don't understand the activity calculation), if Hilariousandco put up an activity calendar sticky that just shows the dates that activity will be going up. That way there would be no more questions on when people's activity will be going up. It would take a minute, but it wouldn't take longer than how many times he has explained it before...

People still probably wouldn't read it. It might be best including a simpler explanation of how it works though in the op of this thread. I'll write a brief but definitive one later and pm theymos with it and see if he'll update it.

I agree with hilariousandco that most of the people won't read it but will just make another new thread to ask about it. Even if the post limit is included in the newbie readme (sticky in newbie section), you can find tons of posts asking about it...

If you started a new thread titled These are the days when your activity is going to go up...people would probably read it...

Thought I'd post to say that I'm not fond of the activity levels, there should be some distinction to the time registered as well. I've been too busy to post for a few months however I should get increases of say 14 per 2 weeks for being registered for that time regardless of posting. Just my opinion

It is based on how long you've been registered, but also the posts youve made in that time. As long as you post once in every two week period you'll get your points. Getting them for not posting would defeat the purpose of having activity points in the first place as it's based on how active you are not merely just how long you've been registered. People could create accounts, abandon them for X amount of time, then come back when they're a Snr account or whatever. The current system is much better.

Why i've already 38 Posts, and only 14 Activity and Newbie status Each two week period you post in increases your maximum activity by 14. The next two week period is tomorrow (22nd July) at 9:06:40 GMT A complete list of activity periods can be found here :- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736.0

So from the formula I saw in OP, you can bump up even 100 + activity in one day If your account is old enough and at least 1 post is were made every 2 week period in the past, by making 100 posts in one day.
Please correct me If I'm wrong.

Yes you are right. If you have made just 1 post in a period, you wouldn't get all 14 activity right away but you can get them back later. But if you haven't posted in a period, you would never be able to get that 14 activity.
