In my opinion, it has two sides and both are depend on the knowledge power of anybody. If anyone who have not enough knowledge about Bitcoin,then he or she will think Bitcoin is controversial. Bitcoin is controversial for those who are still not able to gather knowledge about Bitcoin.I'm a Member of it's forum and I know about it.For me and all users who are known about it and it's users will probably say that it isn't controversial. So,it depends on knowing about it's details.

This is happening all over the forum and in real life when people still claim that Bitcoin is illegal and that Bitcoin participants are illegal. So many people do not like Bitcoin. However, when they know its value, they feel surprised and suspicious of the coin. Because they think it contains illegal activities such as money laundering, corruption, etc. So they further away from it and prevent their family members from using it. However, the fact Bitcoin has helped many unemployed people make money, helping the economy of a country to be improved and developed, helping people access to the technology in the future. Talking about controversial of bitcoin. Im only refering my obsevation basically bases in my country people phillipines. I dont ever any significant news from media newscaster about what is the reality of bitcoin is all about. Because talking about controversial it comes from tv news broadcasting or some radio broadcasting also. But my knowledge about bitcoin controversial is based only on my friends who told me to access bitcoin because its a profitable soon. Bitcoins have been controversial since their inception. But the difference today is that people on the favouring side of this controversy are enough today to fight off the side against it. Every coin has two sides and bitcoin is no different. One needs to understand that bitcoin comes with its own disadvantages. Considering its demerits today there is no way that it could ever be useful as a currency. It has now merely become an assset for investment so I don't think govts. need to worry about it much.

Yes generally it is controversial since it is unusual. the big thing like bitcoin require something like that! Otherwise it won't go big as the attractive things come from it.

Its true that bitcoin is used by some people for money laundering.But it is already done even when bitcoin was not in existence.To avoid such money laundering activities,government could imply new rules and regulate bitcoin and enforce new restrictions to bitcoin exchanges.This could be a solution and totally banning or just criticizing bitcoin would not be useful.Bitcoin could not be completely stopped and the governments should realize this truth.

One thing you need to understand is that money laundering at a big scale needs by definition to go through banks and many corrupt politicians, there is no other way to hide so much money, with bitcoin existence this means bank could lose a big way to make money and they are not liking this, so bitcoin affects the interests of both banks and governments.

Well bitcoin has been really controversial since then. A lot of economists don't even want to try knowing what it can brings to people. For some reasons, there a lot of chances that bitcoin can be better than the fiat money since this can be transacted without being noticed publicly or let's say in the bank per se. People can do a lot of mischievous thing through it just as how these people are doing the same things with their dollars. So, I think it still depends on the user on how and where they will use it.

indeed for time being the government in every country almost completely does not give positive support for bitcoin development especially for its legalization, even the government in my country has drafted a law for prohibition of bitcoin use, it is a very unwise decision if the government really will ban bitcoin in my country 2018.
