Why are we basing the price in $?
BTC will possibly have more members outside of the US so even Euro is possibility.

I will probably be replaced by another before then.  esp. with anonymity rather than pseudoanonymity like zerocoin

We're comparing apples to oranges; the apple is a deflationary currency, and the orange is an inflationary currency.

Inevitably, a billion American dollars will buy a hamburger.  Inevitably, a satoshi will buy that same hamburger.  Inevitably, the two are going to cross paths along that line, where a single Bitcoin has deflated to match a thousand inflated dollars.

What's really being asked is whether Bitcoin will see continued success; now that's something I can't answer, for I cannot predict the future, but I certainly hope it does.

$1000 is too much. Let it hit $500 within 5 years. Then we will think about $1000.  Grin

Possibly. As mining becomes more difficult, it will be more expensive to mine bitcoins, and that will (probably) drive their price up. However, the price of BTC has leveled off recently. It's just a grab bag; maybe they will be $1000, maybe they will stay at ~125-150. Bitcoin is still a very young currency, and

I agree, the question should be when it does, what you can buy with this $1000 .

Bitcoins will hit $1000 maybe in 1-2 years. i think. Difficulty rises so fast and soon theres no point minining unless you have something like 500GH/s.

ps. just waiting for my instawallet funds ;__;

Honestly, I would assume that bitcoin will fail not necessarily very soon, but some virtual currency will succeed. the number of decentralised currencies that have emerged makes me think that it is a fad that will die. however, being a currency with a set value, if it were the only currency, and no other virtual currencies existed, due to the limited supply, the value would go up. hence we would potentially reach a place where one dollar, or one burger would be valued at one satoshi. who knows, as the value is and will always be changing, and there are too many variables to account for. I don't think that it will ever reach that, as the human variable is too large. BITcoin will fail IMHO.

Then after you sell you will see it climbed to 10, 000 usd per btc.  Smiley . Bitcoin has very big advantage to real currencies. When 10% of world populations using bitcoin its price will be at 100k usd per btc.

Do you think that 10% of the world population will ever use btc? Hmmm.

We should not rule out this possibility. Bitcoin has very big potential. In the future few currencies will be use due to globalization. And the most convenient, safe, with global acceptance and anonymous will be use and its bitcoin.  Smiley
