This latest bull run was somewhat unexpected to me. Well, not entirely -- from the bottom at 65 it was clear we had a ways up to go. But this push to break 167 -- almost there! -- was a very pleasant surprise. I think it won't be long until we see a new all-time high, and then $1000 won't be far off.

Im not so optimistic becase all-time high is around 275, thats a huge difference from today price, and I expect correction near 200. Dont let me wrong, 1000 will happen, but not soon

Heard at Atlanta conference this past weekend:

Quote
5 years from now...
"Hey, how much for BMW"

"2 bitcoins"

"Wow, that's a lot!"

"Well, it is an expensive company"
Says the one who bought a $300,000 Prius.   Cheesy

$124,000 Prius, actually. I spent very close to 1,000 bitcoins, so it's fairly easy to track. Btw, after recent travels and renting out some other cars (like Chevy Sonic), the Prius really feels like a luxury car :9
I couldn't remember the exact amount, so just threw that number out there in the hopes you would correct me.  Wink

Very soon?
It does not seem that we are even close to 200 $ actually, so I don't understand how you can know we will reach it anytime soon.
Unless someone here has a billion or two to invest, this ain't happening and we can't know when it will..

More important is adoption and useability, with it, you dont need one who has a billion or two to invest, but millions of small users using bitcoin as worldwide paying network will do the same job

Bottom at 65 ? It had to be long ago. All I remember is pretty stable around 120. Now the chinese speculators drive it bit higher, but Im confident it will be stable again. Quick changes in price are not healthy + long lived in my opinion

It's interesting what qualifies as "long ago" when people are talking about bitcoin.  It hasn't even existed for 5 years yet.  There isn't really any such thing a "long ago" when it comes to bitcoin.

As for bottom at 65, I think it bottomed out a bit below 60 just this past April 16th 2013, right?

The question is not whether btc will reach 1000 USD but whether that 1000 USD will buy one hamburger at that time...

ha ha I like that. Whether USD 1000 will buy one hamburger. It's hard to know but it can not be ruled out as a possibility.  I just can't wait till Bitcoin is used widely for remittance, from there it's anyone's guess how high it can go. I would love the defence of bitcoin to be one day something like ..."Are you trying to deny a poor person in the third world from benefiting from such a great technology." ...whenever politicians open their mouth and try fear mongering.  Does anyone have a summary somewhere of how all the colored coins ideas are performing around the bitcoin community. I was pleasantly surprised how fast Mastercoin(J.R. willet one) has gone up in value.

It is just 6x bigger price than today. If you look at recent years increases, there would be no big surprice if it hapens next year

i doubt it. That would require bitcoins to be demanded by every person trying to get fiat into crypto currency.

Remember, since there is no upper bound on the amount of fiat that can (and will) be printed, there is no upper bound on the bitcoin price, gold price or any price.

If we index to 2008-valued USD, I still think that $100k/BTC is hardly beyond the pale, but it is not going to happen overnight, sadly - and happily, for that gives us some more time to stock up on cheap 'coin. Smiley

It could go either way, obviously, but we are in a massive bull run, with lots of buying pressure on Chinese exchanges. The bubble, which never fully deflated, could easily get inflated again. Breaking 167 on Gox will be super bullish -- not that the charts aren't, already. $1000 may be optimistic for said re-inflation, though.

What would qualify as the bubble fully deflating?
