Sell for what, USD/EUR? Why? That's like saying, "As soon as my classic 1960's Aston Martin reaches $100,000, I'll sell it and get an AMC Gremlin Tongue

Just spend it on something you need, or hold on to it until you need to buy something.

Assuming BTC displaces companies like Western Union (market cap $10.2 billion vs $1.6 billion for BTC), yes, it will reach $1,000.

Considering that there will always be a limited number of Bitcoins, the greater the use the greater the value that must be stored in each Bitcoin. I expect the exchange rate to exceed $1000 USD soon.

what if it becomes trendy to own at least one bitcoin ? there are probably 500 mio people in the world who could afford 1 btc at current prices.

That's like saying there are 349 people who wish to eat these 2 pieces of cake in front of me... Smiley

Let's try again, to make your point clear:

Quote

what if it becomes trendy to own at least one some bitcoin ? there are probably 500 mio people in the world who could afford 1 btc at current prices - that's a total value of 60 000 000 000 invested (or converted) into bitcoins. At maximum 21 million coins, assuming no coins were ever lost, this turns out to be ~ USD $2,800 per coin.

If the bitcoin price manages to stay above 140 (at MtGox), 1000 is likely within a year, I think. If, however, the 140 resistance level holds, we will probably have to go down first.

I expect bitcoin to reach $1000 without doubt, unless the coin is hacked or a competitive coin emerges very soon.

Wow. I must disagree with you. But, you look confident it will happen. I doubt it very much though.

I doubt we will break $150 in the short term unless some really positive news comes out .

Currently the order books of the major exchanges has lots more volume of sellers at the $140 ish level while the buyer volumes look weak in comparison .

Personally I feel the sellers are dominant approaching $140-$150 area for now .

Personally I would use the $120 ish area for buying, dollar cost averaging to as close the that figure as possible.

And try to sell over $140 .

On Mtgox we have in recent weeks tested resistance at $148 ish but have seen a sharp rejection .

I personally would not short bitcoin since there are few news events that can take the value to zero .

Yet there are thousands of news events that could raise the value of bitcoin .
