If you're having trouble getting connections you may want to open port 55789 for TCP connections within your router and/or firewall. If you are not sure on how to go about port forwarding you can visit http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Once you have the port open your client should begin finding plenty of new connections (might need to restart though).

Doing this will also help the network by allowing other users to connect and sync the blockchain

FYI: i took a chance and withdrawed the coins from my pool to Cryptsy and worked just fine, got them within a few minutes...

I saw a lot of people asking about Cryptsy and if it's safe...

They had some issues in the beginning, but I have only good things to say about cryptsy. Coins-e however, you have to manually confirm transactions of alt-coins to get them in the balance...
