Yes, as of now there are some countries already banned the bitcoin. They think that bitcoin industry can't help them to improve there economy because they don't know to whom the taxes will be collected and taxes are needed every country to help them to improve there economy.

It it not slowly gaining it, it is in fact too fast that government are being reluctant about it. There are some countries that already embraced the use of bitcoin in their country and there are also some that already banned it totally.

The government can ban but not completely. The government may prohibit the use of bitcoin or other digital currencies as a means of transactions in the country. But the government can not forbid someone to own or store bitcoins.

The only thing in which the governments are interested in absolute control over everything. It includes your data, your activities, your private information and everything that would help them to control you. Since the money is something that is fully controlled by the governments around the world, Bitcoin came up as a disruptive model which can destroy the control of it. Even if the market cap of cryptocurrencies has reached in billions, still there is a long way to go but governments fear of losing their control and hence they try to limit/ban such activities.

I don't think so. Government are pretty good in such things so you must not underestimate them in terms of tracing even for bitcoin because bitcoin is not that really anonymous as people thinks.

Government can ban bitcoin, that is a given. Some countries banned bitcoin now and some of them do not really banned bitcoin but they can't access the internet because of the censorship in their country.

It is clear that the government can prohibit, but it is not possible government to stop people from using. It can make it difficult to use, but not prevent people from using.

They can't ban BITCOINS itself as it's not under the control of any individuals or organizations BUT they can actually make using or owning crypto currencies a felony which leads to fines/jail or whatever.

If we just put a scenario that country "X" decided to make owning and using crypto illegal, how are they gonna force this ?
They can't keep on tracking each and every address. We can make millions of one-time use addresses on different wallets with different identifiers and it'd be impossible to link them together (if done the right way).

This means it'd take so much time just to track one person's transactions. Which basically means applying such things on a large scale (making it a law) is practically impossible and would need an uncountable number of human resources.

I think the status right now is that governments don't really know what to do. They surely are aware of the existence of bitcoins. It's no longer the small thing on the side that passes unnoticed. But they still have no idea what to say or do about it as it's something that's totally out of their hands. On one side, they don't want people to evade taxes and don't want their printed currency to be obsolete and at the other side they can't just reject it. I guess they're just waiting to see how things will turn out.

Some government in a specific country supports Bitcoin and some opposed and banned Bitcoin in their jurisdiction. Lately, we've seen what China did. It banned cryptocurrencies and it somehow shook Bitcoin [but in minimal, of course]. Government can ban Bitcoin but only in a specific range and not as a whole. This will only occur (the wide range of controlling or banning) when every single government and international entities do the unlikely, together.

That is possible but if they bans the bitcoin they will lose the opportunity to move towards the digital currency side. We found China bans bitcoin and Korea bans the ICO alone. These is taken action by the government to be safe the financial corporates to make money without the interruption of bitcoin. I think king ruling country will only works better than any government actions.
I think after 10 years we will find all the countries in the world accepts bitcoin as a legal currency everywhere. even in the next door shop near to your home also accepts bitcoin for sure.
