If there is anything we have learnt from the happenings since yesterday is that the role government plays in the propagation of anything is key and that is important and a further fact that government can ban anything as well. From yesterday to this very moment, a lot of hopes have been dashed and I expect more to happen in the coming days but that is not a testimony that this is the end as we are very much far from that to happen.

Bitcoin is not owned or controlled by any government or corporation. Bitcoin network is peer to peer and fully decentralized.
not fully decentralized, there are big investors who can partly control the price of BTC, and as we see they are doing it quiet good, by using different sort of news.

they can try to take away the technology, or try to crawl in and control every step of you acquiring it, but they cant ban, only way government can controll bitcoin is by pretending they were the issuers, hence country/cryptos, i think we will see nationalistic forks and even complete ripoffs of stuff, it's just fun when interesting things unravel

Many governments want and can ban Bitcoin because of its use in some illegal transactions. This is one of the main criticisms about the use of bitcoins on a regular basis. This argument in particular was handled by a longtime opponent of crypto-currencies - JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, when he was recently asked about bitcoin at the global Fortune forum.Although the regulatory rules and prohibitions on bitcoins can undoubtedly have a negative impact on popularity and acceptance among the general public, the idea can not be banned. While there are some people who are willing to make efforts to protect bitcoins as currency, they will never be banned completely.

Yes can ban but can not stop it,Bitcoin is centralized it have own network and technology never depend on any one,Bitcoin is future of financial hub where every one can change their lives to make stable future. Government can not chase the Bitcoin and finally will realize that Bitcoin also part of economy which helps for stable economy.

Eu, like any other state, definitely can not be bitcoin, but it does not have any control from other countries, but if that happens, it will not happen soon enough. Bitcoin is growing and growing stronger ... Grin

I think government can't stop bitcoin because bitcoin is not a illegal and it's not a scam so that nothing can ban bitcoin even i government...

I think it is possible for the government to ban cryptocurrency. Websites affiliated with the crypto world could easily be controlled or blocked. Establishments would be forbidden to accept bitcoin as a mode of payment. They may try their best but bitcoin users will find ways to continue their crypto business, it would not be as easy as it used to, however.

Of course they can, if the government sees that bitcoin will ruin the lives of there people they will surely shut down the site and prevent it to further happen.

Bitcoin has been around the borders of financial markets for less than a decade, but is slowly gaining importance as an alternative asset class.
Can the government of any major country step in and do the unlikely?
Technically yes but nit a lot of governments will do it.
Also it is very difficult to apply it.

In some countries, government controls the financial markets by banning bitcoin trading because any country fears the financial markets are out of control.

Yes, the government has the power to ban bitcoins in their own country. They may come up with some harsh punishments if anyone breaks the law.

In my opinion as long any internet connection no body can ban Bitcoin because Bitcoin is decentralized so no one can to control it, government and others financial institution only possible to ban sentralisasi exchange but not Bitcoin.

It is hard to believe that some people here think that any government can stop it. As you say it is peer to peer. Maximum they can do is to limit the network and even a granny know how to use vpn now.

Bitcoin has been on the periphery of financial markets for almost a decade, gradually regaining the status of an alternative asset class. Those who believe that no government (except dictatorships) will not go to extremes by banning bitcoin,  should remember the history: USA and the ban on owning gold, China and Internet control, India and demonetization. If any government decides that the trade or possession of bitcoin is illegal, then the question immediately arises: how can this ban be implemented? Most citizens and organizations will prefer to stay on the legal side and not violate the law. Thus, the demand for bitcoin will fall when the government decides to ban it.

my country currently seems to be doing it, ban the use of bitcoin, and they will making regulation. but until now there has been no result. I hope they don't really ban people to have bitcoin, but only ban a trade bitcoin to fiat, so I still can do trade bitcoin with other currencies.

It could be that the government can ban bitcoin if they think that bitcoin makes the economy chaotic and can make a lot of harm to its users.
